Book Flowers butterflies insects caterpillars and serpents

Download or read book Flowers butterflies insects caterpillars and serpents written by Luca Stefano Cristini and published by Soldiershop Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In those years, Europe was full of bonfires committed to make a clean sweep of witches. At the same time a young scientist: Sybilla Merian, daughter of the well-known German engraver Matthaeus Merian, was instead committed to studying, and illustrating the microscopic world of insects, caterpillars and butterflies and the little bigger world of flowers, plants and animals. The wonderful metamorphosis of caterpillars was the basis of her best work: Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium, published in Amsterdam in 1705. The work carried out by Sibylla Merian is fantastic. Indeed, during that time, it was unusual to deal with insects - the beasts of Satan. Her drawings of plants, snakes, spiders, iguanas and tropical beetles are still considered masterpieces and are sought-after by collectors around the world. Another great master, the English entomologist Moses Harris, contributed to complete the volume with his interesting engravings.

Book 1926 2016 Fritz Jahr s Bioethics

Download or read book 1926 2016 Fritz Jahr s Bioethics written by Amir Muzur and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2017 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ethics of valuing bios in all their forms and shapes has been an essential part of great and successful cultures from the millennia-old Vedic tradition of 'tattvamasi'-this is also you: this plant, this animal, this microbe, this ecosystem-to the simple hands-on call of Jesus's 'love your neighbor.' But as a term bioethics was coined 90 years ago by Fritz Jahr, an educator and pastor in Halle in his Bioethical Imperative 'Respect every Living Being as an end in itself and treat it, if possible, as such.' This book examines the development of Fritz Jahr's concept of bioethics over the last ninety years.
