Book Fantasia and Toccata In D Minor for the Organ Op 57

Download or read book Fantasia and Toccata In D Minor for the Organ Op 57 written by Charles Villiers Stanford and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Completed in July 1894, "The Fantasia and Toccata in D minor, Op. 57" is a beautiful musical composition in D minor for organ by Charles V. Stanford. This volume contains the complete, original sheet music for the piece, and it is not to be missed by fans and collectors of Stanford's seminal work. Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852 - 1924) was an Irish composer, conductor, and teacher of music. He was educated at the University of Cambridge and continued his studies in Berlin and Leipzig. He was a very influential composer, responsible for making Cambridge University Musical Society an internationally-acclaimed organisation. Stanford was also a profuse composer, producing a large corpus of work in many genres; however, he is perhaps best remembered for his Anglican choral works for church performance. His music eventually became overshadowed by that of Edward Elgar and a number of his former pupils in the 20th century. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in a modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction on the history of musical notation.

Book British Organ Music of the Twentieth Century

Download or read book British Organ Music of the Twentieth Century written by Peter Hardwick and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book-length survey of 20th -century British music for solo organ. Beginning with a discussion of British organ music in the last decades of the Victorian era, the book focuses on the pieces that the composers wrote, their musical style, possible influences on the composition of specific works, and the details of their composition. Arranged in chronological order according to date of birth are detailed studies on important composers that made especially significant contributions to organ music including Parry, Stanford, Healey Willan, Herbert Howells, Percy Whitlock, Francis Jackson, Peter Racine Fricker, Arthur Wills, and Kenneth Leighton. Composers' biographies, the role of organs and organ building developments, influential political and sociological events, and aesthetic aspects of British musical life are also discussed in detail. In the concluding chapter, the author discusses the major phases and achievements of the century and gauges what may lie ahead in the new millennium. A comprehensive Catalog of Works provides titles of works, dates of composition, details of publishers, and the dates of publication. More than 60 music examples, 12 black and white photos, and an up-to-date bibliography are included.

This book was released on 1999-03-04 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Companion is an essential guide to all aspects of the organ and its music. It examines in turn the instrument, the player and the repertoire. The early chapters tell of the instrument's history and construction, identify the scientific basis of its sounds and the development of its pitch and tuning, examine the history of the organ case, and consider the current trends and conflicts within the world of organ building. Central chapters investigate the practical art of learning and playing the organ, introduce the complex area of performance practice, and outline the relationship between organ playing and the liturgy of the church. The final section explores the vast repertoire of organ music, focusing on a selection of the most important traditions.

Book A Guide to Organ Music

    Book Details:
  • Author : Viktor Lukas
  • Publisher : Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation
  • Release : 1989
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book A Guide to Organ Music written by Viktor Lukas and published by Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation. This book was released on 1989 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This selective critical survey of organ literature from Hofhaimer and Paumann to the present day is a useful guide both for the organist seeking repertoire and for the listener looking for brief analyses of organ works encountered in recitals or on record. It has been a standard work in Germany for more than a generation, appearing in five editions. It is now translated into English for the first time. Organists in the English-speaking countries will find the author's continental perspective of particular interest, as he treats fully many significant composers--Hermann Grabner, Willy Burkhard, Günter Raphael, and Joseph Ahrens are only a few examples--whose works are frequently performed in Germany yet remain almost unknown in America and England. This guide may therefore suggest a largely unexplored realm of music written for the classically-oriented instrument that awaits the adventurous organist. The chronological survey of composers treats all of the standard repertoire by familiar composers, and includes as well some works by composers too little known: Johann Ernst Eberlin and Bohuslav Cernohorsky in the 18th century and Gustav Merkel in the 19th are examples. This edition includes addenda on British and American organ music by the well-known American organist Lee Garrett, expanding the scope of Lukas's work. Musical examples show principal themes of selected works, and publishers are listed for each composer."--Dust jacket.
