Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on Faith That Will Not Shrink chronicles the lives of Aaron W. Izeogu and Mary T. Izeogu—two of the pioneers of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Ogba, the former Ahoada Division and the former eastern Nigeria. They were a God-fearing couple raised in non-Christian families in a rural village in southeastern Nigeria but accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ and became a beacon of light far beyond their community. He was known as faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a friend to many, and she was known in her community as a mother of all. Organized into eight chapters, the book describes the ancestral roots of A. W. Izeogu and Mary T. Izeogu; their parental background; the historic period and society in which they grew up in Ede, a rural community in southeastern Nigeria; and the various life challenges they faced growing up and lived to raise their eight children, some of who are in Nigeria and others in the United States of America. After a description of A. W. and M. T. Izeogu’s preparation for life of work and service for humanity and their faith walk with God, the book focuses on the family that raised their eight children (three men and five women). It further describes their love for God and humanity and giving back to their communities a positive influence even where and when they did not receive such goodwill and support to survive in their youthful years. Other subjects presented are forgiveness of those who hated and wronged them multiple times, their dependence on God to fight the battle for them, and their legacy of faith and trust in God in times of trouble. Chukudi V. Izeogu, Professor Emeritus at Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, Alabama, USA, is the second son of A. W. and M. T. Izeogu.

Download or read book A Sudden Glory written by Sharon Jaynes and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you long for something more in your relationship with God? The good news is that “something more” does not mean “doing more.” God is not waiting for you to get your spiritual life “right.” He wants to be with you right where you are. The real question is not “What does God want from you?” but “What does God want for you?” Sharon Jaynes understands what it’s like to have a “glory ache”—a longing to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. She also knows how easily working for God can get in the way of intimacy with God. And she’s discovered that we tend to make our faith journey much too hard. In A Sudden Glory, Sharon uses Scripture and story to help you erase the line between your “spiritual life” and your “daily life” as you enter the sanctuary of God’s presence even in the middle of your busy, messy day. Here you will find your eyes opened to moments of sudden glory in which the Creator assures you of His love as you live and move and have your being in Him. Here you will discover true freedom—the freedom of experiencing God in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before. Includes Bible study and discussion guide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Riveting Spiritual Thrill Ride Like most seasoned psychiatrists, Dr. Richard Johnson thought he'd heard it all. His assuredness falters when a first-time client arrives at his office and announces that he is God. Listening intently to the man, who is obviously suffering from severe psychosis, he agrees to take the case. What transpires over the course of the next nine sessions will test everything in the doctor's bag of tricks. As he struggles to unravel the client's illness before he becomes a danger to himself, a chilling series of coincidences and events cause him to question everything he thought he knew about himself, his place in the world, and life after death. Was their time together the revelations of divinity or the ramblings of a delusional? What's possible? You decide . . . Ten sessions. A lifetime of answers. Under normal circumstances, the province of psychotherapy is practiced privately. What is said behind closed doors remains there. The patient can sing like a bird, but the therapist is ethically and legally bound by confidentiality. I can truthfully say that in all my years of practice, I only gave up two patients. The first involved serious child abuse and the second concerned an individual who was imminently suicidal. These were clearly based on a duty to warn and protect. What you will read in these pages is the third breach of my silence and has nothing to do with legalities or ethics. It has to do with a patient whose initial claims represented the most elaborate and complex delusional system I've ever encountered. I was given express permission to tell the story in a public forum. Indeed, I was encouraged to.
Download or read book Shrink written by Tim Suttle and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among followers of Jesus, great is often the enemy of good. The drive to be great—to be a success by the standards of the world—often crowds out the qualities of goodness, virtue, and faithfulness that should define the central focus of Christian leadership. In the culture of today’s church, successful leadership is often judged by what works, while persistent faithfulness takes a back seat. If a ministry doesn’t produce results, it is dropped. If people don’t respond, we move on. This pursuit of “greatness” exerts a crushing pressure on the local church and creates a consuming anxiety in its leaders. In their pursuit of this warped vision of greatness, church leaders end up embracing a leadership narrative that runs counter to the sacrificial call of the gospel story. When church leaders focus on faithfulness to God and the gospel, however, it’s always a kingdom-win—regardless of the visible results of their ministry. John the Baptist modeled this kind of leadership. As John’s disciples crossed the Jordan River to follow after Jesus, John freely released them to a greater calling than following him. Speaking of Jesus, John said: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Joyfully satisfied to have been faithful to his calling, John knew that the size and scope of his ministry would be determined by the will of the Father, not his own will. Following the example of John the Baptist and with a careful look at the teaching of Scripture, Tim Suttle dares church leaders to risk failure by chasing the vision God has given them—no matter how small it might seem—instead of pursuing the broad path of pragmatism that leads to fame and numerical success.

Download or read book Preaching Hebrews written by Douglas D. Webster and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-09 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hebrews is a powerful meditation on the gospel. It is a sixty-minute sermon delivered to a worshiping congregation. The spiraling impact of theological exposition and pastoral exhortation is impressive. Hebrews weans us away from our preoccupation with the start of the Christian life and focuses our attention on the perseverance of faith. Life is not a sprint; it's a marathon. Faithfulness to the end affirms faith from the beginning. If we let the word of God have its way with us, Hebrews will deepen our faith in Christ and strengthen our faithfulness. Like Jesus in the Gospels, Hebrews sees the fundamental difference between apostasy and faithfulness as the difference between a religion about God and a Christ-centered relationship with God. Any form of Christianity that competes like other religions for the attention of its adherents through its rituals, practices, pastors, traditions, and sacred spaces, has fallen back into an obsolete and worldly strategy. The pastor calls for a decisive end to religion, even the best religion ever conceived. The flow of reasoned argument for Christ and against religion, along with the pulsating emotional intensity of ultimate issues laid bare, and heart-felt warnings against complacency and unbelief, deliver a powerful and timely message.

Download or read book Come Apart with God written by Rev. Canon Alson B. H. Percival and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-08-07 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My wife and I have read through the Daily Devotions for the entire year. At one point she stopped me and said that every husband and father should receive a copy of these devotions and read them aloud to his wife and children. I agree. Above all, Dr. Percival is a Pastor and has a Pastor’s heart and insight. With these devotions, he leads us through the entire range of a person’s relation with our Triune God. Skilfully, he guides us through the pertinent Psalms, instructive Biblical passage, and a brief statement on how to speak with God. His choice of poems is very brief and very uplifting. He leads us finally in a sentence or two on how we ought to pray. This book of devotions should have wide circulation well beyond the Anglican Communion to the church universal. It has already begun with me. Rev. Dr Nicholas J. Tavani, B.D., Ph.D., CFLE Altadena, California 2005
