Book Microbial Quality of Water Supply in Distribution Systems

Download or read book Microbial Quality of Water Supply in Distribution Systems written by Edwin E. Geldreich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-26 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hidden problems, buried deep in the pipe networks of water distribution systems, are very serious potential threats to water quality. Microbial Quality of Water Supply in Distribution Systems outlines the processes and issues related to the degradation of water quality upon passage through networks of pipes, storage reservoirs, and standpipes on its way to the consumer. The risks associated with biofilm accumulation, bacteria, and other contaminants are discussed in great detail. In addition to its excellent microbiological coverage of organisms in drinking water and biofilms in distribution systems, Microbial Quality of Water Supply in Distribution Systems provides clear treatments of the technical and public communication issues most commonly affecting the quality of water and water supply systems. The inclusion of numerous case histories in this new book makes it a complete reference source for anyone concerned with water quality and water distribution systems.

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 368 pages

Download or read book Predictive Microbiology written by Thomas Alexander McMeekin and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1993 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four authors with backgrounds in food microbiology, food chemistry, mathematics, and statistics, explain how techniques of predictive microbiology can allow an objective evaluation of the effects of processing, distribution, and storage on the microbiological safety and quality of foods. The trick is to understand the microbial ecology of a process or of a food at a particular point in the chain, then use mathematical relationships between microbial growth and the expected environmental conditions, to predict the growth or survival of selected organisms. Book Securing Water and Wastewater Systems

Download or read book Securing Water and Wastewater Systems written by Robert M. Clark and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-04 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban water and wastewater systems have an inherent vulnerability to both manmade and natural threats and disasters including droughts, earthquakes and terrorist attacks. It is well established that natural disasters including major storms, such as hurricanes and flooding, can effect water supply security and integrity. Earthquakes and terrorist attacks have many characteristics in common because they are almost impossible to predict and can cause major devastation and confusion. Terrorism is also a major threat to water security and recent attention has turned to the potential that these attacks have for disrupting urban water supplies. There is a need to introduce the related concept of Integrated Water Resources Management which emphasizes linkages between land-use change and hydrological systems, between ecosystems and human health, and between political and scientific aspects of water management. An expanded water security agenda should include a conceptual focus on vulnerability, risk, and resilience; an emphasis on threats, shocks, and tipping points; and a related emphasis on adaptive management given limited predictability. Internationally, concerns about water have often taken a different focus and there is also a growing awareness, including in the US, that water security should include issues related to quantity, climate change, and biodiversity impacts, in addition to terrorism. This presents contributions from a group of internationally recognized experts that attempt to address the four areas listed above and includes suggestions as to how to deal with related problems. It also addresses the new and potentially growing issue of cyber attacks against water and waste water infrastructure including descriptions of actual attacks, making it of interest to scholars and policy-makers concerned with protecting the water supply.

Book Microbial Growth in Drinking Water Supplies

This book identifies the main concerns and knowledge gaps related to regrowth and stimulates cooperation in future research. Microbial Growth in Drinking Water Supplies provides an overview of the regrowth issue in different countries and the water quality problems related to regrowth. The book assesses the causes of regrowth in drinking water and the prevention of regrowth by water treatment and distribution. Book Safe Piped Water

Download or read book Safe Piped Water written by Ainsworth R. and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2004-09-21 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication addresses the factors affecting the presence and growth of micro-organisms in piped networks as well as the practices of water supply organisations that can directly or indirectly influence them. The book shows that there are often public health reasons for adopting a more proactive approach to many of the traditional practices used in designing, operating and maintaining distribution networks, and to modifying the composition of the water that is fed into those networks.
