This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) as a means of instructional technology in Secondary Schools seems to be gaining popularity though rarely used in chemistry especially chemical reaction and equilibrium(CRE) in Nigeria. In this study the researchers employed a pretest, post-test, non-randomized control group experimental design to find out effect of CAI on students' retention in CRE. The study is comprised of 128 males and 112 female students (N=240). Chemical Reaction and Equilibrium Retention Test (CRERET) was used as study instrument. The student's scores from CRERET were collated and analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that there is a significance difference between the mean retention of students taught CRE using CAI and those taught using conventional strategy (F1, 239=331.942; P=0.0000.05) as well as in mean retention of male and female students taught chemical reaction and equilibrium using CAI strategy (F1, 127=8.083; P=.0050.05). Based on the findings, the study recommends that both NGOs and government should be encouraged to adequately fund educational sector so as to procure reasonable number of computer sets for Secondary Schools to enhance teaching and learning with CAI strategy which is gaining prominence in technology education especially in facilitation of retentive ability of learners.

Book Computer Assisted Instruction in Higher Order Skills for Mildly Handicapped Students

Download or read book Computer Assisted Instruction in Higher Order Skills for Mildly Handicapped Students written by Douglas Carnine and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes a series of eight research studies related to the use of computer-assisted instruction (cai) with mildly handicapped students at the junior high or high school level. Through videodisc and cai the studies isolated the effects of the following design variables: (1) review cycles; (2) size of teaching sets; (3) explicit strategies; and (4) correction procedures. Studies involved three different kinds of CAI--drill and practice, tutorials, and simulations. Results indicated that properly designed cai can be effective as an instructional medium if attention is paid to the academic task, the stage of instruction, and the role of the teacher. Detailed reports are presented in the form of preprints or reprints of journal articles with the following titles:"Applying Instructional Design Principles to cai for Mildly Handicapped Students: Four Recently Conducted Studies" (John Woodward et al.); "Effects of Instructional Design Variables on Vocabulary Acquisition of ld Students: a Study of Computer-Assisted Instruction" (Gary Johnson et al.); "Elaborated Corrective Feedback and the Acquisition of Reasoning Skills: a Study of Computer-Assisted Instruction" (Maria Collins et al.); "Teaching Problem Solving through Computer Simulations" (John Woodward et al.); "The Effectiveness of Videodisc Instruction in Teaching Fractions to Learning-Disabled and Remedial High School Students" (Bernadette Kelly et al.); and "Closing the Performance Gap in Secondary Education" (John Woodward et al.). Book The Position of Computer Assisted Instruction in Pre Technical Skills

Download or read book The Position of Computer Assisted Instruction in Pre Technical Skills written by Justice Kofi Armah and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) encompasses a broad range of computer technologies that supplement the classroom learning environment and can dramatically increase a student's access to information. This study was aimed at determining the effect of CAI on the academic achievement of junior high school students in Pre-technical Skills. The study employed the quasi-experiment, pretest-posttest non equivalent groups design in two junior high schools purposively selected for the experiment. In all, eighty junior high school second year students participated in the study. Using the results of a pre-test, the schools were put into treatment and control groups. The treatment group completed a CAI based learning programme over a period of four weeks. The control group received the instruction through the traditional method of teaching at the same period. The study revealed that there is no significant difference between the general performance of the experimental group and that of the control group. However, it was concluded that CAI has influence on the learning of specific aspects of basic design.

Book Problem Solving and Computer assisted Instruction in Science Education

Download or read book Problem Solving and Computer assisted Instruction in Science Education written by Jennifer Anastasia Skinner and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quantitative component of this study examined the effect of computerassisted instruction (CAI) on science problem-solving performance, as well as the significance of logical reasoning ability to this relationship. I had the dual role of researcher and teacher, as I conducted the study with 84 grade seven students to whom I simultaneously taught science on a rotary-basis. A two-treatment research design using this sample of convenience allowed for a comparison between the problem-solving performance of a CAI treatment group (n = 46) versus a laboratory-based control group (n = 38). Science problem-solving performance was measured by a pretest and posttest that I developed for this study. The validity of these tests was addressed through critical discussions with faculty members, colleagues, as well as through feedback gained in a pilot study. High reliability was revealed between the pretest and the posttest; in this way, students who tended to score high on the pretest also tended to score high on the posttest. Interrater reliability was found to be high for 30 randomly-selected test responses which were scored independently by two raters (i.e., myself and my faculty advisor). Results indicated that the form of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) used in this study did not significantly improve students' problem-solving performance. Logical reasoning ability was measured by an abbreviated version of the Group Assessment of Lx)gical Thinking (GALT). Logical reasoning ability was found to be correlated to problem-solving performance in that, students with high logical reasoning ability tended to do better on the problem-solving tests and vice versa. However, no significant difference was observed in problem-solving improvement, in the laboratory-based instruction group versus the CAI group, for students varying in level of logical reasoning ability.Insignificant trends were noted in results obtained from students of high logical reasoning ability, but require further study. It was acknowledged that conclusions drawn from the quantitative component of this study were limited, as further modifications of the tests were recommended, as well as the use of a larger sample size. The purpose of the qualitative component of the study was to provide a detailed description ofmy thesis research process as a Brock University Master of Education student. My research journal notes served as the data base for open coding analysis. This analysis revealed six main themes which best described my research experience: research interests, practical considerations, research design, research analysis, development of the problem-solving tests, and scoring scheme development. These important areas ofmy thesis research experience were recounted in the form of a personal narrative. It was noted that the research process was a form of problem solving in itself, as I made use of several problem-solving strategies to achieve desired thesis outcomes.

Book Comparative Effects of Ability and Presentation Mode in Computer assisted Instruction and Programmed Instruction

Download or read book Comparative Effects of Ability and Presentation Mode in Computer assisted Instruction and Programmed Instruction written by Walter Dick and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance of 64 high and low ability students was compared on an instructional sequence in 'significant figures, ' a mathematical concept, which was presented via programmed instruction and computer-assisted instruction. The programmed test consisted of 52 linear frames. The CAI program which was presented on a cathode-ray tube terminal (CRT) had the same basic frames plus remediation for incorrect responses as well as remedial loops. The results on a posttest, retention test, and learning errors, indicated that high ability students performed better than low ability students; students using PI performed significantly better than those using CAI, and in each case there was a significant ability by treatment interaction. The observed differences are attributed to the very poor performance of the low ability students who used the CRT terminal. It is suggested that low ability students may require hard copy memory aids to supplement CAI learning experiences. (Author).

Book The Use of Computer assisted Instruction in a Biblical Studies Course

Download or read book The Use of Computer assisted Instruction in a Biblical Studies Course written by Joseph P. Gallen and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One purpose of this case study was to determine the effect of the introduction of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) materials upon students' learning ability in a college Biblical studies course. Another purpose was to gather information from students with regard to their attitudes toward CAI and its effectiveness in learning the course material. A third purpose of the study was the design of CAI materials using a general application software package. The data base and word processing functions of a general application software package were adapted for CAI in the Biblical studies course. The CAI components employed in the Biblical studies course were a data base function, a word processing exercise, and drill and practice exercises. This case study collected data on 68 students of an introductory Biblical studies course during a college semester. Data on student attitudes were gathered through written questionnaires and interviews. Chi-square was used to investigate the change of student attitudes toward the course. Student learning of the course material was tested using a pretest/posttest design in addition to student grades. An analysis of variance was calculated on the pretest and posttest scores using the years of formal background in religious education as the independent variable to measure gain scores. Student response to the incorporation of CAI into the curriculum of the Biblical studies course showed that 54.7% of the students viewed CAI favorably with higher percentages in relation to each of the CAI activities: 62.7% for the data base, 70.8% for the word processing exercise, and 83% for the drill and practice. Students also perceived the CAI materials as enabling them to learn the material of the course. Students' attitudes with regard to the Biblical studies course were generally favorable and in those cases where negative attitudes were reported at the beginning of the study, 53% of these students reported that they had altered their view at the conclusion of the course. The analysis of variance showed significant gain scores for students with little or no formal background in religious education in relation to students with greater experience in formal religious studies courses (p

Book Computer assisted Instruction in Composition

Download or read book Computer assisted Instruction in Composition written by Cynthia L. Selfe and published by Urbana, Ill. : National Council of Teachers of English. This book was released on 1986 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for writing teachers and administrators of middle school through college writing programs, this guide suggests how to translate approaches to teaching composition into computer assisted instruction (CAI) software. The book encourages writing teachers to see themselves as composition specialists who can team up with specialists in computer programming and educational field-testing in order to increase their own effectiveness in the classroom. Each chapter describes one step in the process of designing CAI software. The chapters discuss the following: (1) identifying assumptions about writing and pedagogy; (2) getting started on a CAI project; (3) working with a design team; (4) making pedagogical decisions about a CAI lesson; (5) integrating response and evaluation into a CAI lesson; (6) thinking about screen display; (7) field testing a CAI lesson; and (8) spreading the word about CAI software. Worksheets for each step in the design process, suitable for copying, are included. (SRT)

Book A Comparative Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Computer Assisted Instruction CAI Versus Class Room Lecture RL for Computer Science at ICS Level

Download or read book A Comparative Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Computer Assisted Instruction CAI Versus Class Room Lecture RL for Computer Science at ICS Level written by Tayyaba Kausar and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of CAI vs. classroom lecture for computer science at ICS level. The objectives were to compare the learning effects of two groups with class room lecture and computer assisted instruction studying the same curriculum and the effects of CAI and CRL in terms of cognitive development. Hypothesis of this research were based on six levels of blooms taxonomy as there was one major hypothesis: There is no significant difference exist for CAI student in gaining a high cognitive achievement than students of same level having Traditional CRL. The study was delimited to three colleges of Faisalabad city. The research was true- experimental in nature. The research design followed by researcher is The Pre-test - Post test Equivalent groups Deign. The software used for CAI group was basically the combination of Discovery environment and simulation soft wares, however, the time for drilling and practice was given to student. It a designed to cover the all levels of cognitive domain described by B.S. Blooms (1956). A question paper containing 30 items multiple choice test was compiled from the curriculum, with a representative number of questions from each of the cognitive levels. Findings of this research indicate that total gain in cognitive domain by CAI was significantly superior to the total gain in cognitive domain by CRL teaching method. This study concluded that the skills of knowledge, analysis and synthesis assured significant increase. The CAI proved to be very much effective in increasing the evaluation and application skills of students to experimental group. Comprehension skill, however, not much affected by the CAI. According to the results of this study it was suggested that CAI as an effective teaching method should be applied to improve teaching quality and by using CAI it will be possible to eliminate lingual, regional and ethical biases between teacher and student.
