Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a glimpse into early man and his later descendents who establish a branch of the human family on the continent of Asia, the novel moves along into the mid twentieth century, to the Second World War and the 1950s. Book two contains approximately two-thirds of the novel, chronicling the dramatic experiences of its three protagonists: Dimitri Kagan from a small town south of Stalingrad; Kurt Wilhelm Schmidt, born on a farm outside of Hanover; and Elijah Milbrook Cole, a black teenager of latent artistic talent, dealing with life in a Detroit ghetto. After becoming participants in the War, the story goes on to tell how their lives interact with profound consequences for all three of them. And it ends with a meeting in a Middle Eastern venue that again touches their lives in unforgettable ways. Complex subjects are explored, yet the novel can be read on different levels-as a straight adventure or as one possible historical perspective of humanityżs march from earliest times into the present day. But however the material might be viewed, the force of the narrative will keep readers engrossed until the final page.

Book Faces in the Fire and Other Fancies

Download or read book Faces in the Fire and Other Fancies written by Frank Boreham and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Faces in the Fire, and Other Fancies" by Frank Boreham is a book that covers essays on theological topics as well as plain human interest topics. The author presents common events that teach deep, spiritual truths. Excerpt: "It was a chilling experience, that first glimpse of New Zealand! Hour after hour the great ship held on her way up the Cook Straits amidst scenery that made me shudder and that scowled me out of countenance. Rugged, massive, inhospitable, and bare, how sternly those wild and mountainous landscapes contrasted with the quiet beauty that I had surveyed from the same decks as the ship had dropped down Channel! I shaded my eyes with my hands and swept the strange horizon at every point, but nowhere could I see a sign of habitation—no man; no beast; no sheltering roof; no winding road; no welcoming column of smoke! And when, in the twilight of that still autumn evening, I at length descended the gangway, and set foot for the first time on the land of my adoption, I found myself—twelve thousand miles from home—in a country in which not a soul knew me, and in which I knew no single soul. It was not an exhilarating sensation."

During the journey the author offers plausible explanations for humanities need of the villain, the arch villain, and the other miscreants who populat global societies. His narrator, pausing briefly to further describe his personal battle with his disease, weaves a nuanced story line through strong characterizations that will take the reader on to mid twentieth century.
