Book Extreme Temperatures in the Upper Air

Download or read book Extreme Temperatures in the Upper Air written by and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extreme temperature values are a source of constant interest. For builders and designers of airplanes, for those engaged in air transportation, and all others in any way connected with flying interests, such information is a necessity. To meteorologists, physicists, and students of both sciences, the information is a useful tool.

Book Upper air Climatology of the United States

Download or read book Upper air Climatology of the United States written by Benjamin Ratner and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is the first of a series presenting climatological statistics of the upper air. Average values of height, temperature, relative humidity, and density at constant pressure surfaces for a network of stations in the United States, Alaska, and the Caribbean are presented. A series of analyzed extreme values for the same stations will be issued later as Part 2, and additional parts are in the planning stage.

Book Antarctic Meteorology and Climatology

Download or read book Antarctic Meteorology and Climatology written by J. C. King and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-07-23 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive survey of the climatology and meteorology of Antarctica. The first section of the book reviews the methods by which we can observe the Antarctic atmosphere and presents a synthesis of climatological measurements. In the second section, the authors consider the processes that maintain the observed climate, from large-scale atmospheric circulation to small-scale processes. The final section reviews our current knowledge of the variability of Antarctic climate and the possible effects of "greenhouse" warming. The authors stress links among the Antarctic atmosphere, other elements of the Antarctic climate system (oceans, sea ice and ice sheets), and the global climate system. This volume will be of greatest interest to meteorologists and climatologists with a specialized interest in Antarctica, but it will also appeal to researchers in Antarctic glaciology, oceanography and biology. Graduates and undergraduates studying physical geography, and the earth, atmospheric and environmental sciences will find much useful background material in the book.

Book A Comparison of Measured Upper Air Temperatures and Temperatures Derived Using the Lapse Rate of the US Standard Atmosphere

Download or read book A Comparison of Measured Upper Air Temperatures and Temperatures Derived Using the Lapse Rate of the US Standard Atmosphere written by Spence E Peters (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measured upper air temperatures at several locations were compared with temperatures derived using surface conditions and the lapse rate of the US Standard Atmosphere. The locations chosen were Helwan, Egypt; Mexico City, Mexico; Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Barrow, Alaska; Denver, Colorado; and Vandenberg Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base, California. It was shown that using a standard lapse rate can lead to large deviations from measured temperatures under realistic conditions. These conditions include temperature inversions, strong surface heating, non-standard tropopause heights, and high altitude locations. In several cases, differences between measured and derived temperatures exceeded 20C. A method was presented which substantially reduced errors arising from low-level inversions by using a measured or forecasted temperature at 5000 feet above ground level.

Book WHO Housing and Health Guidelines

Download or read book WHO Housing and Health Guidelines written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improved housing conditions can save lives, prevent disease, increase quality of life, reduce poverty, and help mitigate climate change. Housing is becoming increasingly important to health in light of urban growth, ageing populations and climate change. The WHO Housing and health guidelines bring together the most recent evidence to provide practical recommendations to reduce the health burden due to unsafe and substandard housing. Based on newly commissioned systematic reviews, the guidelines provide recommendations relevant to inadequate living space (crowding), low and high indoor temperatures, injury hazards in the home, and accessibility of housing for people with functional impairments. In addition, the guidelines identify and summarize existing WHO guidelines and recommendations related to housing, with respect to water quality, air quality, neighbourhood noise, asbestos, lead, tobacco smoke and radon. The guidelines take a comprehensive, intersectoral perspective on the issue of housing and health and highlight co-benefits of interventions addressing several risk factors at the same time. The WHO Housing and health guidelines aim at informing housing policies and regulations at the national, regional and local level and are further relevant in the daily activities of implementing actors who are directly involved in the construction, maintenance and demolition of housing in ways that influence human health and safety. The guidelines therefore emphasize the importance of collaboration between the health and other sectors and joint efforts across all government levels to promote healthy housing. The guidelines' implementation at country-level will in particular contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals on health (SDG 3) and sustainable cities (SDG 11). WHO will support Member States in adapting the guidelines to national contexts and priorities to ensure safe and healthy housing for all.
