Book Linear Discrete Parabolic Problems

Download or read book Linear Discrete Parabolic Problems written by Nikolai Yu Bakaev and published by North-Holland. This book was released on 2006 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume introduces a unified, self-contained study of linear discrete parabolic problems through reducing the starting discrete problem to the Cauchy problem for an evolution equation in discrete time. Accessible to beginning graduate students, the book contains a general stability theory of discrete evolution equations in Banach space and gives applications of this theory to the analysis of various classes of modern discretization methods, among others, Runge-Kutta and linear multistep methods as well as operator splitting methods. Key features: · Presents a unified approach to examining discretization methods for parabolic equations. · Highlights a stability theory of discrete evolution equations (discrete semigroups) in Banach space . · Deals with both autonomous and non-autonomous equations as well as with equations with memory . · Offers a series of numerous well-posedness and convergence results for various discretization methods as applied to abstract parabolic equations; among others, Runge-Kutta and linear multistep methods as well as certain operator splitting methods as well as certain operator splitting methods are studied in detail . · Provides comments of results and historical remarks after each chapter. · Presents a unified approach to examining discretization methods for parabolic equations.

Book Progress in Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Progress in Partial Differential Equations written by Michel Chipot and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research Note presents some recent advances in three important domains of partial differential equations and applied mathematics: calculus of variations, exact controllability and numerical analysis. These topics are now part of various areas of science and have experienced tremendous development during the last decades. Interconnections within these different areas are also presented in particular for the numerical analysis of problems in calculus of variations and applications to mechanics. Readership: a special attempt has been made to make the results and techniques presented here accessible to young researchers and non-specialists. This book should interest not only experts in partial differential equations but also graduate students, applied mathematicians and computer users.

Book Discontinuous Galerkin Methods

Download or read book Discontinuous Galerkin Methods written by Bernardo Cockburn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A class of finite element methods, the Discontinuous Galerkin Methods (DGM), has been under rapid development recently and has found its use very quickly in such diverse applications as aeroacoustics, semi-conductor device simula tion, turbomachinery, turbulent flows, materials processing, MHD and plasma simulations, and image processing. While there has been a lot of interest from mathematicians, physicists and engineers in DGM, only scattered information is available and there has been no prior effort in organizing and publishing the existing volume of knowledge on this subject. In May 24-26, 1999 we organized in Newport (Rhode Island, USA), the first international symposium on DGM with equal emphasis on the theory, numerical implementation, and applications. Eighteen invited speakers, lead ers in the field, and thirty-two contributors presented various aspects and addressed open issues on DGM. In this volume we include forty-nine papers presented in the Symposium as well as a survey paper written by the organiz ers. All papers were peer-reviewed. A summary of these papers is included in the survey paper, which also provides a historical perspective of the evolution of DGM and its relation to other numerical methods. We hope this volume will become a major reference in this topic. It is intended for students and researchers who work in theory and application of numerical solution of convection dominated partial differential equations. The papers were written with the assumption that the reader has some knowledge of classical finite elements and finite volume methods.

Book Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations written by Randall J. LeVeque and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces finite difference methods for both ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) and discusses the similarities and differences between algorithm design and stability analysis for different types of equations. A unified view of stability theory for ODEs and PDEs is presented, and the interplay between ODE and PDE analysis is stressed. The text emphasizes standard classical methods, but several newer approaches also are introduced and are described in the context of simple motivating examples.
