Book excerpt: In the thesis we study ideal-triangularizability of families of positive operators on Banach lattices, i.e., does there exist a maximal chain of closed ideals of an underlying Banach lattice such that every ideal from the chain is invariant under every operator from a given family of positive operators. In lots of ocassions, the Ideal-triangularization lemma is applicable. In those cases it suffices to prove that a family is ideal-reducible. We mostly consider ideal-triangularizability of semigroups and algebras of operators. Under some mild additional assumptions we prove ideal-triangularizability of semigroups of positive operators on Banach lattices with order continuous norm such that non-diagonal parts of compressions of operators from the semigroup to the continuous part of the lattice are abstract integral operators. From the last result we also deduce some interesting consequences. In the fourth chapter we study positive commutators of positive operators. We prove that a positive commutator $AB - BA$ of positive operators $A$ and $B$ is quasinilpotent whenever $A + B$ is a Riesz operator and $AB - BA$ is a power compact operator. We also seek for conditions on commutators under which families of matrices of constant-sign are ideal-triangularizble. In particular, we obtain an order version of Engel's theorem. In the last chapter we consider ideal-triangularizability of nil-algebras generated by positive operators and ideal-triangularizability of additive semigroups of positive quasinilpotent power compact operators. If the compactness index of operators from the additive semigroup is bounded, then the semigroup is ideal-triangularizable.
