Book Toxicology and Potential Health Risk of Chemicals that May be Encountered by Workers Using Forest Vegetation Management Options Parts II Exposure to and Absorption of Herbicides Used in Forestry

Download or read book Toxicology and Potential Health Risk of Chemicals that May be Encountered by Workers Using Forest Vegetation Management Options Parts II Exposure to and Absorption of Herbicides Used in Forestry written by Frank N. Dost and published by [Victoria] Forest Practices Branch, BC Ministry of Forests. This book was released on 2003 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews a variety of research studies of worker exposure in forestry & agriculture, as well as some observations of homeowners & lawn care workers, in order to consider the exposure of forest workers to herbicides. It first summarizes general approaches to the assessment of worker exposure to herbicides, then discusses research on such matters as absorption of herbicides through skin contact, protective measures, urinary excretion of herbicide after exposure, variations in exposure when using different types of applicator equipment, contact with treated vegetation as a source of herbicide exposure, and exposure following burning of treated vegetation. The final section makes suggestions toward developing exposure standards for forest workers.

Download or read book Veterans and Agent Orange written by Committee to Review the Health Effects in Vietnam Veterans of Exposure to Herbicides and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-01-15 with total page 791 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have U.S. military personnel experienced health problems from being exposed to Agent Orange, its dioxin contaminants, and other herbicides used in Vietnam? This definitive volume summarizes the strength of the evidence associating exposure during Vietnam service with cancer and other health effects and presents conclusions from an expert panel. Veterans and Agent Orange provides a historical review of the issue, examines studies of populations, in addition to Vietnam veterans, environmentally and occupationally exposed to herbicides and dioxin, and discusses problems in study methodology. The core of the book presents What is known about the toxicology of the herbicides used in greatest quantities in Vietnam. What is known about assessing exposure to herbicides and dioxin. What can be determined from the wide range of epidemiological studies conducted by different authorities. What is known about the relationship between exposure to herbicides and dioxin, and cancer, reproductive effects, neurobehavioral disorders, and other health effects. The book describes research areas of continuing concern and offers recommendations for further research on the health effects of Agent Orange exposure among Vietnam veterans. This volume will be critically important to both policymakers and physicians in the federal government, Vietnam veterans and their families, veterans organizations, researchers, and health professionals.

Book Woody Plants and Woody Plant Management

Download or read book Woody Plants and Woody Plant Management written by Rodney W. Bovey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-03-29 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A presentation of strategies for managing woody plants and using research data to select the most appropriate control methods. It analyzes the responses of over 370 North American woody plants to commercially available herbicides. The authors provide methods to manage woody plants that interfere with recreation, watershed yield, animal and plant diversity, resource conservation, wildlife and livestock needs, and wood production on grazing, forest, and related land.

Book Field Studies Monitoring Worker Exposure to Pesticides

Download or read book Field Studies Monitoring Worker Exposure to Pesticides written by TL. Lavy and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These studies were conducted to collect data on pesticide exposure levels acquired by applicators during typical spray operations. This information should complement toxicological data. Measurements from workers engaged in routine forestry operations were made for crews spraying two phenoxy herbicides, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). In less extensive studies, exposures to mixers and applicators of o-ethyl-o-4-nitrophenyl phenylphosphonothioate (EPN) in cotton fields and paraquat in grape vineyards were evaluated. Levels of the pesticides were measured in the breathing zone of workers, on patches attached to workers' clothing, and from urine excreted during and after spray operations. These methods of evaluation showed that workers in these spray operations received some exposure to these pesticides, but levels of exposure in all tests were well below any amounts shown to be toxic to laboratory animals in toxicological studies.
