Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Exposition of the First Epistle of Peter, Vol. 1 of 2: Considered in Reference to the Whole System of Divine Truth That there is yet needed labour, much labour, who thinks of denying? So far, indeed, it may be denied, that already a great deal has been done that everywhere a holy foundation has been laid, and a building raised upon it with pious care. Of this, the present work may serve for a proof, and help also to vindicate the despis ed and forgotten period of a former age, to the vexation and disgust, no doubt, of much exist ing vanity! The work would not be in vain, if this were to be its highest, its only worth. But a higher thing is the word of God itself, which alone is possessed of indubitable worth; and to render manifest its fulness, its precise meaning and immovable security, is the calling, the work and honour of an expositor. Book NEW TESTAMENT CONTEXTUAL COMMENTARY

Download or read book NEW TESTAMENT CONTEXTUAL COMMENTARY written by Dr. Robert R. Seyda and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-03-26 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Apostle John tells his readers, he has an important message to tell them. It is about a person who was already there before the beginning of the world. We heard him speak. We’ve seen Him with our own eyes. We watched Him and we touched Him. He is the Word that gives us life with God. This is the message: God is completely good and pure. He is like light. There is nothing dark about Him. Amazingly, John tells us that one of the things Jesus wanted us to understand is that by loving others we love God. Yes, we do make mistakes and so do other believers but we are not to hold that against them because just as we were given forgiveness by God’s mercy and grace since we are in union with His Son, so can they. What we are not to do is claim access to this privilege but then live like those in the world. Our goal is not just life, but eternal life. After all, we are God’s children and no child of God keeps on sinning after they are born again through Jesus the Anointed One.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship. Overview of Commentary Organization Introduction—covers issues pertaining to the whole book, including context, date, authorship, composition, interpretive issues, purpose, and theology. Each section of the commentary includes: Pericope Bibliography—a helpful resource containing the most important works that pertain to each particular pericope. Translation—the author’s own translation of the biblical text, reflecting the end result of exegesis and attending to Hebrew and Greek idiomatic usage of words, phrases, and tenses, yet in reasonably good English. Notes—the author’s notes to the translation that address any textual variants, grammatical forms, syntactical constructions, basic meanings of words, and problems of translation. Form/Structure/Setting—a discussion of redaction, genre, sources, and tradition as they concern the origin of the pericope, its canonical form, and its relation to the biblical and extra-biblical contexts in order to illuminate the structure and character of the pericope. Rhetorical or compositional features important to understanding the passage are also introduced here. Comment—verse-by-verse interpretation of the text and dialogue with other interpreters, engaging with current opinion and scholarly research. Explanation—brings together all the results of the discussion in previous sections to expose the meaning and intention of the text at several levels: (1) within the context of the book itself; (2) its meaning in the OT or NT; (3) its place in the entire canon; (4) theological relevance to broader OT or NT issues. General Bibliography—occurring at the end of each volume, this extensive bibliographycontains all sources used anywhere in the commentary.

Book Christ is God Over All

Download or read book Christ is God Over All written by George Carraway and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written against the background of Christological scholarly thought since thepublication of Kyrios Christos by Bousset. Carraway argues that the syntax of Romans 9:5 suggests Paul meant to refer to Jesus as God, and that his statement is not out of place at thebeginning of Romans 9-11.He addresses objections to this conclusion, responding to those who claim that a monotheist such as Paul would not refer to Jesus as God, and to those who point out that Paul does not elsewhere identify Jesus as God. After demonstrating that there is a connection between Romans 9:5 and the remainder of Romans 9-11, the argument continues by tying Paul's monotheistic statements regarding the one God of both Jews and Gentiles in Romans 3, the concept of the one Lord of all in Romans 10:5-13.The book concludes that the redeemer from Zion in 11:25-27 is Christ, and is the same as the Christ from Israel in 9:5.

  • Author : John Brown Of Edinburgh

  • Release : 2008-08
  • ISBN : 9781589601338

Download or read book Exposition of First Peter written by John Brown Of Edinburgh and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the Introduction (pp. 1-29), his first subject is The Christian Salvation (30-60); next is, The Present and Future State of the Christian Contrasted (pp.61-79); The Final Happiness of the Christians (80-104); Christian Duty (pp. 105-163), etc. Under each of these subjects, there are extensive sub-heads. Under Christian Duty are: The general view; the particular view; the means of performance of Christian Duty; Motives to the performance of Christian Duty; The holiness of God; The strict equity of God, etc. There are segments for all the verses, but the discourse may not take up a verse word-for-word. The comments are excellent in every way. The reader will meet with many beautiful facets of the Truth in this epistle which cannot be found in any other exposition of this book. Each page is studded with Scripture references from both Testaments, all of them magnify the light being thrown on the subject. For instance, in dealing with the expression ""a peculiar people,"" Brown points out that the original means ""a people for possession"" Or, ""treasure,"" and he brings in no less than 12 scripture references, all of them demonstrating that God's people are His treasure: 'He makes it evident that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; and, ""in the day that He shall make up His jewels,"" collect His treasure, He will bestow on them such ""an exceeding weight of glory"" as shall make all the intelligent universe acknowledge that they are HIS; in a peculiar sense His property, . . ."" Spurgeon remarked that all of John Brown's ""expositions are of the utmost value;"" ""pure gold,"" and that he was ""a Puritan born out of time."" ""Has stood the test of time. Full and complete. Indispensable to the expositor"" (The Minister's Library, Cyril J. Barber).
