Book Agro and Food Processing Industry in India

Download or read book Agro and Food Processing Industry in India written by Seema Bathla and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides different facets of India's agro and food processing industry in both organised and unorganised segments. It brings forth the topical issues having potential to accelerate the pace of growth in its employment, investment and productivity and strive for improving the global competitiveness. Using advanced quantitative techniques, it brings new evidences on inter-sectoral (agriculture-industry-services) employment and production linkages, contractual arrangements through Farmer Producer Companies, and subcontracting in the processed food sector. It also throws light on India's comparative advantage in export of primary and processed food products. With rising per capita income, urbanisation, and changing food habits of people, India is increasingly striving to improve productivity and competitiveness in agriculture and manufacturing. A concerted policy focus to accelerate private investment in food processing, largely viewed as a sunrise industry, is expected to contribute to large scale job creation and external trade not only in the manufacturing but also in the agricultural sector. Keeping this in mind, considerable insights are featured in the book at the industry and firm levels due to a significant bearing of technological, tariffs and non-tariff barriers and labour regulations on their trade intensity, employment and efficiency. Containing perspectives from the top agriculture and industry economists in the country, the book will be very useful to researchers, academicians, trade analysts and policy makers.

Book Indian Economy and the WTO

Download or read book Indian Economy and the WTO written by Vibha Mathur and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides glimpses of the past, present and future of the Indian economy. It traces the evolution and explains the present structure of different sectors of the Indian economy. This work is important to understand the impact of new challenges posed by the WTO regime. Though developing countries make up three-fourth of WTO membership and by their vote can in theory influence the agenda and outcome of trade negotiations, they have hardly used this numerical superiority to their advantage. Most developing countries are, in one way or another, dependent on the US, EU, or Japan in terms of imports, exports, aid and security. India is bracing fast to meet these challenges. The unshackling of the Indian economy, though slow, has to be seen in the context of the emerging world economic scenario.

Book Exports University industry Linkages and Innovation Challenges in Bangalore India

Download or read book Exports University industry Linkages and Innovation Challenges in Bangalore India written by Anthony P. D'Costa and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The success of the Indian software industry is now internationally recognized. Consequently, scholars, policymakers, and industry officials everywhere generally anticipate the increasing competitiveness of India in high technology activities. Using a structural framework, the author argues that Bangalore's (and India's) information technology (IT) industry is predicated on an Indian business model which does not encourage thick institutional linkages such as those encapsulated by the triple helix model. Under this institutional arrangement there is cross-fertilization of new ideas and new modes of institutional interaction between industry, academia, and government. Though there are several hundred IT businesses in a milieu of numerous engineering and science colleges and high-end public sector research institutes, the supposed thick institutional architecture is in reality quite thin. This is due to a particular type of an export-oriented model which is based on off-shore development of software services, targeted mainly to the United States. Neither domestic market nor non-U.S. markets such as East Asia are pursued aggressively by Indian firms, which offer alternative forms of learning. Consequently, Bangalore's dynamism in the IT industry stems from linear and extensive growth rather than nonlinear and intensive growth. The author argues that Bangalore has serious innovation challenges with weak university-industry linkages, lack of inter-firm collaboration, and the absence of cross-fertilization between the knowledge-intensive defense/public sector and the commercial IT industry. To strengthen Bangalore's and India's innovation system, the Indian business model must be reformed by diversifying geographical and product markets, stemming international and internal brain drain, and contributing to urban infrastructure. Book Global Strategic Trade Management

Download or read book Global Strategic Trade Management written by Rajiv Nayan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines whether India is successfully integrating and adapting to the global strategic management system. It offers essential insights into the evolution of export controls for goods, which may have implications for the development of Weapons of Mass Destruction – an aspect that is especially relevant given India’s robust biotechnological, chemical and nuclear industrial base. In security studies, the phrase “strategic trade management” is now slowly replacing the phrase “export control”. However, for the policymaking community, export control remains popular, at least for the sake of reference. The book also describes the mechanisms India is adopting in this regard. It demonstrates the shift in the Indian approach to strategic trade management, from an outspoken critic to a supporter. Politically, the country was initially skeptical of the idea of export controls because it was a target of such systems. The book also explains the tools, forces and incentives that moved India to adapt its policy on export controls or strategic trade management.
