Book A Study on the Factors Influencing the Adoption of Mobile Payment System in Nigeria

Download or read book A Study on the Factors Influencing the Adoption of Mobile Payment System in Nigeria written by Aminu Hamza and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proliferation of handheld devices and the high-speed mobile network have created another revolution in the world of commerce. Despite the continuous emerging payment solutions and abundant facilitating technologies, the level of mobile payment system adoption is quite low. Researchers focused their attention mainly on mobile payment business model and mobile payment software/infrastructures architectures with relatively little attention paid to the factors influencing the adoption. Moreover, researchers paid very little attention on issues regarding mobile payment system adoption in developing countries. Accordingly, this study examined the factors that determine the adoption of mobile payment system and how their influence differs by gender of the students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used with three additional variables to form the conceptual model. The study was conducted in three Universities in Kano state, Nigeria. Purposive sampling method was used with a total valid 214 respondents which involved the students of Bayero University Kano (BUK), North-West University, and Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, Kano, Nigeria. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), perceived compatibility (PC) and social norm (SN) have significant and positive correlation with the behavioural intention to adopt mobile payment system. The findings from the independent t-test also revealed that there is a significant difference on the influence of PEOU and SN among the gender of the students with male having high perceived ease use (PEOU) over female counterpart, while social norm (SN) influences female more than their male counterpart in adopting mobile payment. The study provided empirical support of the background theory outside the context of developed countries and contributed significantly to the existing literature in the field of mobile payment. Secondly, the study provided input about the critical success factors of the adoption of mobile payment system among mobile users. Thirdly, the study will help authorities to make relevant adjustments regarding the cashless-policy to make it more effective in the economy.

Book Empirical Study of Barriers to Electronic Commerce Adoption by Small and Medium Scale Businesses in Nigeria

Download or read book Empirical Study of Barriers to Electronic Commerce Adoption by Small and Medium Scale Businesses in Nigeria written by Professor Edwin Agwu and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic commerce (E-commerce) is a technological innovation that enables small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to compete on the same level with their larger counterparts. And it has the potential to improve efficiency and productivity in many areas and, therefore, has received significant attention in many countries of the world. A thorough analysis of the impact of the internet and e-commerce across firms, industries and economies is necessary to separate hype from reality. However, several researchers have called for the investigation of the association between the perceptions of e-commerce and the barriers to its adoption in developing countries. It is however on record that SMEs the world over are faced with significant challenges that compromise their ability to function and to contribute optimally to the respective economies where they operate. This study was conducted in three states of Nigeria (Lagos, Abuja and Enugu states) with the use of interviews to gather relevant data; the aim of which was to understand the challenges which serve as barriers to E-Commerce adoption by small and medium scale enterprises in the Nigerian context. Findings indicates that small and medium scale online present is at best unknown. The most common e-Commerce applications used by most SMEs include but not limited to the use of e-mails for communication purposes and a simple website for basic product information - information contained are usually outdated as most of these websites are hardly updated. Findings revealed, among others, that lack of and total absence of a regulatory framework on e-Commerce security, as well as technical skills, and basic infrastructures are some of the barriers to electronic commerce adoption. The findings however, provide a constructive insight to financial practitioners, governments as well as other stakeholders on the need to give e-commerce a place in all aspects of e-commerce activities.

Book Factors Influencing the Intention to Adopt Internet Banking Services Among Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs in Yemen

Download or read book Factors Influencing the Intention to Adopt Internet Banking Services Among Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs in Yemen written by Nabil Hussein Al-Fahim and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the wide adoption of Internet banking service in developed countries, its application is still low in developing countries like Yemen. Moreover, there is a dearth of empirical research on Internet banking services in Yemen and this makes it necessary to carry out research on the adoption of Internet banking service. The aims of this study is to examine and investigate the main factors that influence the adoption of Internet banking services by Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) managers or owners in Yemen. The research framework consists of nine exogenous variables and one endogenous variable. The exogenous variables consist of attitudinal and environmental factors while the endogenous variable comprises of intention towards Internet Banking (IB). This research also identifies the role of demographic factors (size, type and ownership of organization) as moderating variables that impact on SMEs' intention to adopt Internet banking service in Yemen. In addition, this study explains how the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with Technology Organization Environment (TOE) framework used in examining the factors of Internet banking service adoption among SMEs in Yemen. The sample of the present study consisted of a total of 311 SMEs, analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in order to examine causal relationships among the study latent variables. The indirect exploratory effect of the moderators is examined using Multiple-Group Analysis (MGA). The results of the study indicate that perceived usefulness, ease of use, regulatory support and competitive pressure have significant and positive effect on intention towards IB adoption among SMEs in Yemen. However, perceived trust, risk and ICT readiness have no significance, only negative effect on intention towards Internet banking. Awareness and financial institution support are also not significant but have positive influence towards IB adoption. Furthermore, the findings of the study reveal that type of organization has a moderating effect on managers/owners intention towards IB adoption among SMEs in Yemen. On the other hand, size and ownership of organization are not significant moderators on managers'/owners' intention towards IB adoption. It can be concluded that a combination of TAM and TOE framework explains IB adoption factors well among SME managers/owners in Yemen.

Book Housing Market Dynamics in Africa

Download or read book Housing Market Dynamics in Africa written by El-hadj M. Bah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book utilizes new data to thoroughly analyze the main factors currently shaping the African housing market. Some of these factors include the supply and demand for housing finance, land tenure security issues, construction cost conundrum, infrastructure provision, and low-cost housing alternatives. Through detailed analysis, the authors investigate the political economy surrounding the continent’s housing market and the constraints that behind-the-scenes policy makers need to address in their attempts to provide affordable housing for the majority in need. With Africa’s urban population growing rapidly, this study highlights how broad demographic shifts and rapid urbanization are placing enormous pressure on the limited infrastructure in many cities and stretching the economic and social fabric of municipalities to their breaking point. But beyond providing a snapshot of the present conditions of the African housing market, the book offers recommendations and actionable measures for policy makers and other stakeholders on how best to provide affordable housing and alleviate Africa’s housing deficit. This work will be of particular interest to practitioners, non-governmental organizations, private sector actors, students and researchers of economic policy, international development, and urban development.

Book Building Industries at Sea Blue Growth and the New Maritime Economy

Download or read book Building Industries at Sea Blue Growth and the New Maritime Economy written by Kate Johnson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world there is evidence of mounting interest in marine resources and new maritime industries to create jobs, economic growth and to help in the provision of energy and food security. Expanding populations, insecurity of traditional sources of supply and the effects of climate change add urgency to a perceived need to address and overcome the serious challenges of working in the maritime environment. Four promising areas of activity for ‘Blue Growth’ have been identified at European Union policy level including Aquaculture; Renewable Energy (offshore wind, wave and tide); Seabed Mining; and Blue Biotechnology. Work has started to raise the technological and investment readiness levels (TRLs and IRLs) of these prospective industries drawing on the experience of established maritime industries such as Offshore Oil and Gas; Shipping; Fisheries and Tourism. An accord has to be struck between policy makers and regulators on the one hand, anxious to direct research and business incentives in effective and efficient directions, and developers, investors and businesses on the other, anxious to reduce the risks of such potentially profitable but innovative investments. The EU H2020 MARIBE (Marine Investment for the Blue Economy) funded project was designed to identify the key technical and non-technical challenges facing maritime industries and to place them into the social and economic context of the coastal and ocean economy. MARIBE went on to examine with companies, real projects for the combination of marine industry sectors into multi-use platforms (MUPs). The purpose of this book is to publish the detailed analysis of each prospective and established maritime business sector. Sector experts working to a common template explain what these industries are, how they work, their prospects to create wealth and employment, and where they currently stand in terms of innovation, trends and their lifecycle. The book goes on to describe progress with the changing regulatory and planning regimes in the European Sea Basins including the Caribbean where there are significant European interests. The book includes:• Experienced chapter authors from a truly multidisciplinary team of sector specialisms• First extensive study to compare and contrast traditional Blue Economy with Blue Growth• Complementary to EU and National policies for multi-use of maritime space

Book Factors Affecting the E business Systems Adoption Process in Saudi Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs

Download or read book Factors Affecting the E business Systems Adoption Process in Saudi Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs written by Ali Abu Abid and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic business (e-business) systems are important for SMEs operating in Saudi Arabia. Despite its importance, little is known about how SMEs operating in Saudi Arabia (which has some unique SME characteristics) approach e-business systems adoption process. Much of the current e-business literature focuses on the adoption decision of e-business systems. As e-business systems are complex and inter-organisational in nature, an improved understanding can be developed when adoption process of these systems is considered as a temporal process involving multiple stages. Relatively limited empirical research is however reported that focuses on the multiple stages of the e-business systems adoption process. This is particularly true for Saudi Arabia in which SMEs are expressing an interest in e-business systems adoption. Motivated by these concerns, this study examines the e-business adoption process among Saudi SMEs by developing a three-stage e-business adoption model which is rooted in the ideas borrowed from the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) literature. The model incorporates a total of 19 'stage specific' factors and 10 'common' factors identified from various streams of literature. The model was then evaluated using an online experts panel and a case study in which 20 SMEs from Saudi Arabia participated. The case study findings indicate that a total of 14 'stage specific' factors (i.e. compatibility, complexity, trialability, observability, perceived e-business attributes, availability of technical expertise, knowledgeable employee attitude toward technology, communication, customer readiness, security concerns, high competence in IS, perceived e-business value, owner attitude toward technology, and training) are important for Saudi SMEs to adopt e-business systems. In addition, eight 'common' factors (i.e. cost, relative advantage, management support, external pressure, owner-manager characteristic, organisational readiness and awareness, trading partners' readiness, and organisational culture) are important for Saudi SMEs to adopt e-business systems. Interestingly, some differences are noted in the influence of these factors among SMEs across the manufacturing and service sectors. The research model and the case study findings are useful. The model assists researchers in understanding the e-business systems adoption process in SMEs based on the notion of a 'stage model' approach. Knowledge of the factors supported through the case study provides useful guidelines for those SMEs which are contemplating the introduction of e-business systems for the first time. These guidelines identify those specific factors which SME management should care for during each of the three stages of the e-business systems adoption initiatives in their companies. This will in turn facilitate eventual implementation success of e-business systems for the SME context. E-business researchers are encouraged to replicate this study to other countries particularly for those in the Arabian Gulf region.

Book An Opportunity for a Different Peru

Download or read book An Opportunity for a Different Peru written by Marcelo Giugale and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in the republican history of Peru, the presidential transition takes place in democracy, social peace, fast economic growth and favorable world markets. In other words, there has never been a better chance to build a different Peru - a richer country, more equal and governable. There are multiple ways to achieve that goal. New reforms must stem from a widespread and participatory debate, one of a common vision conceived for and by Peruvians. This book aims at making a technical and independent contribution to such debate; it summarizes the knowledge available about the challenges to be faced by the new administration. The study does not recommend silver bullets, but suggests policy options. It is based on the analysis of the current reality and in six decades of relationships with Peru, in which the Bank has implemented more than 100 projects and prepared more than 500 technical reports covering the wide range of development topics. When necessary, the study provides lessons that the Bank has learned elsewhere. The study provides a conceptual framework to the analysis of the country's 34 economic sectors and the two historical perspectives behind them. In doing so, it offers a comprehensive reform agenda that sheds light on possible priorities and courses of action.
