Book Exploring Mergers and Acquisitions in the Airline Industry and the Corresponding Impact on Aircraft Maintenance Organizations

Download or read book Exploring Mergers and Acquisitions in the Airline Industry and the Corresponding Impact on Aircraft Maintenance Organizations written by Rhoda Frank and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: A, , course: Aviation, language: English, abstract: This study was conducted to explore mergers and acquisitions in the aviation industry and the corresponding impact on supply chains. The problem statement: Merger and Acquisitions are a common theme in the airline industry. However, due to a lack of proper planning and integration of the supply chain process during the negotiation stage, supply chains involving the two companies are negatively affected. It is therefore important to find ways through which supply chain processes are integrated to ensure a smooth transition period after the merger or acquisition. The objective of the study: To determine the impact of mergers and acquisitions on supply chains in the aviation industry. The study follows a qualitative nature with an analysis of literature and a case study of a merger. The results indicate that there is a challenge in the supply chain after the consolidation of two companies. The study recommends that Continuous supply chain integration monitoring is required to enable timely feedback, allowing corrective measures to be performed and the process to be modified to follow the intended route. This will allow the managers at these companies to evaluate all their processes, and in turn, they will be able to determine areas that need improvement.

Book excerpt: The airline industry generates operating revenues of $172 billion in 2007, amounting to over 1% of the U.S. gross domestic product. It carried more than 700 million passengers in 2007. Airline deregulation in 1978 led, at least in part, to increasingly volatile airline profitability, resulting in periods of significant losses and bankruptcies. In response, some airlines have proposed or are considering merging with or acquiring another airline. This report describes: (1) the financial condition of the U.S. passenger airline industry; (2) whether the industry is becoming more or less competitive; (3) why airlines seek to merge with or acquire other airlines; and (4) the role of fed. authorities in reviewing proposed airline mergers and acquisitions. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In early May 2010, United Air Lines and Continental Airlines announced plans to merge the two airlines and signed a merger agreement. The passenger airline industry has struggled financially over the last decade, and these two airlines believe a merger will strengthen them. However, as with any proposed merger of this magnitude, this one will be carefully examined by the U.S. Dept. of Justice to determine if its potential benefits for consumers outweigh the potential negative effects. This statement describes: (1) an overview of the factors that are driving mergers in the industry; (2) the role of federal authorities in reviewing merger proposals; and (3) key issues associated with the proposed merger of United and Continental. Book Airline Choices for the Future

Download or read book Airline Choices for the Future written by Kostas Iatrou and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airline Choices for the Future: From Alliances to Mergers offers an up-to-date assessment of the industry as it stands today, delivering a comprehensive insight into how the world of airline alliances is changing, and how the merger phenomenon is likely to fit into the new scenario. The purpose of this book is twofold. Firstly, it outlines the evolution and the reasons behind alliances between international air carriers, the alliances' track records and the way they have affected airlines and the air transport industry. Secondly, drawing on past and more recent developments in the industry, it examines the experiences airlines involved in cross-border mergers have gone through and the advantages and difficulties they have come across. Alliances and mergers are presented from both the airline and the consumer perspective. The book provides a balanced account of where mergers and alliances have taken the industry to date, bridging the gap between merger theory and implemented practices and strategies. It also identifies the challenges alliances and cross-border mergers have faced and highlights the key forces affecting airline development. Theoretical evidence is supplemented by data collected via surveys and interviews with airline executives, aviation experts, consultants and regulatory bodies.

Download or read book Mergers and Acquisitions written by Jonathan Galloway and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 918 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mergers and acquisitions occur for many legitimate reasons and should be encouraged as a matter of general policy, yet the resulting increase in the level of market concentration and market strength can lead to concerns that certain ’deals’ may irreparably damage the market structure and create anti-competitive effects. This volume explores the competition concerns arising out of mergers and acquisitions, the reasons for merger control and the fundamental options that face all jurisdictions intent on implementing an effective merger control regime. The volume acts as a guide through the development of merger control law, policy and scholarly thought and includes commentary on each of the key stages of any effective merger control regime. The articles consider the objectives of merger control and the broader political landscape within which mergers take place; the procedural issues in merger control, including jurisdictional matters and due process; the different substantive legal standards incorporated into merger control; the relevant theories of harm and the appropriate treatment of efficiencies; and the use of remedies in merger control. The chosen articles mainly, but not exclusively, focus on the US and EU, and several adopt a cross-disciplinary approach encompassing law, political science and economics.

Book The Airline Industry and the Impact of Deregulation

Download or read book The Airline Industry and the Impact of Deregulation written by George Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fast-changing theatre of air transportation, the strategic development of airlines and the operating economics of scheduled airline services have been transformed, following the profound impact of US deregulation. The lessons gleaned from the US experience, including effective ways of constraining rivals, have quickly been adopted by carriers facing the opening up to competition of their own local markets. In addition, in response to the hunt by the successful US survivors for further international traffic, carriers have been forced to emulate certain tactics adopted by these megacarriers, virtually irrespective of their own government’s regulatory stance. The economics of the sector, particularly with regard to revenue generation, has resulted in increased market concentration. In the longer term, prospects for competition remain unclear, given the likely existence of only a small number of similarly endowed, globally alligned megacarriers. This book explores the impact of deregulation policies on key areas of the airline industry, analyzes the response of incumbent carriers to economic freedom and examines whether or not it is possible to devise a pro-competitive regulatory strategy for this sector. The author provides the reader with a clear explanation as to: ¢ why airline deregulation policies have produced a number of unanticipated outcomes; ¢ why low-cost new entrants have been unable to survive under deregulation; ¢ why the impact of airline deregulation has differed between the USA and Western Europe. Using this analysis as a basis, he explores the future development of the sector, indicating the likely future trends towards globalization. He also argues that a competitive marketplace is not a guaranteed outcome of full deregulation and suggests an alternative approach. The book is of special interest to those members engaged in the airline industry, regulatory authorities and government departments of transport and industry. It wil

Book Impact of Aircraft Sourcing Financing on Financial Success

Download or read book Impact of Aircraft Sourcing Financing on Financial Success written by Ralf Günther and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airlines follow different strategies of aircraft sourcing and financing. Basic decisions include the choice of buy versus lease and long term versus short term acquisition of aircraft. Additional fleet and fleet planning characteristics include the desired fleet size, average aircraft age, or possible surplus in capacity. Do these variables have an impact on financial success? Taking the perspective of a shareholder, the author uses multivariate regression methodology to evaluate abnormal returns in stock market's reaction to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the Financial Crisis 2008, and to aircraft accidents and aircraft orders 1994–2009. In further regression analyses the relationship of fleet variables to a company's revenue growth and profitability is examined. Potential readerships include researchers and practitioners with interest in how decisions could be taken in favor of shareholders in an aircraft fleet planning context.

Book Strategic Alliances in the Aviation Industry

Download or read book Strategic Alliances in the Aviation Industry written by Hendrik Vedder and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-12 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,9, European Business School - International University Schloß Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel (Chair of Strategic Aviation Management), course: Bacheloarbeit, language: English, abstract: "Companies are just beginning to learn what nations have always known: in a complex, uncertain world filled with dangerous opponents, it is best not to go it alone" (Ohmae, 1989, p. 143). This statement emphasises the significant developments in firms' corporate strategy in the 1980s. As a response to the rise of globalisation, and thus, increased competition, companies throughout the world started collaborating with partners with interfirm cooperation. Their cooperative practices, though, were not equally relevant in all branches, but concentrated mainly on industries that were affected most by the in-creasing environmental dynamic and complexity. Therefore, firms in various industries, such as the automotive or telecommunication industry, established alliances with their competitors in order to stay competitive and to jointly expand into world markets. However, the aviation industry, in particular, has experienced downright alliance frenzy since that time. With the gradual liberalisation of international air transport, collabora-tions between carriers have steadily gained importance. Therefore, airline alliances have developed from purely horizontal links into more complex and integrated strategic alliances. These strategic alliances have been established mainly to bypass existing regula-tory restrictions and to adapt to customers' altered preferences by extending the airlines' networks. However, with the incidents that occurred during the first years of the 21st century, such as the terrorist acts of 9/11, partner airlines were forced to react to the changed external conditions. This development highlights the high dependence of air-lines and their strateg
