Book Exploratory Investigation of Aerodynamic Effects of External Combustion of Aluminum Borohydride in Airstream Adjacent to Flat Plate in Mach 2 46 Tunnel

Download or read book Exploratory Investigation of Aerodynamic Effects of External Combustion of Aluminum Borohydride in Airstream Adjacent to Flat Plate in Mach 2 46 Tunnel written by Robert G. Dorsch and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure distributions associated with stable combustion of aluminum borohydride in the supersonic stream adjacent to a short, 13-inch chord, and an extended, 25-inch chord, flat-plate model were determined experimentally. The models were mounted in the center of the test section of a 1- by 1-foot Mach 2.46 wind tunnel. High-speed direct and schlieren motion pictures of the flame and associated shock waves were taken, and selected photographs are presented.

Book Combustion of Aluminum Borohydride in a Supersonic Wind Tunnel

Download or read book Combustion of Aluminum Borohydride in a Supersonic Wind Tunnel written by Edward A. Fletcher and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of adding heat to a supersonic airstream in the absence of flameholders was studied. Transient burning for periods of 3 to 10 milliseconds was achieved in a supersonic wind tunnel at nominal Mach numbers of 1.5, 2, 3, and 4. Steady burning was achieved for periods of 0.2 to 2 seconds at nominal Mach numbers of 1.5, 2, and 3. Burning and tunnel flow phenomena, including thermal choking, are described. Possible applications of the results of this study are suggested.

Book Some Effects of Heat Transfer at Mach Number 2 0 at Stagnation Temperatures Between 2 310 and 3 500 R on a Magnesium Fin with Several Leading edge Modifications

Download or read book Some Effects of Heat Transfer at Mach Number 2 0 at Stagnation Temperatures Between 2 310 and 3 500 R on a Magnesium Fin with Several Leading edge Modifications written by William M. Bland and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Four models of a thin magnesium fin, with the leading edge swept back 35°, have been tested in the preflight high-temperature jet of the Langley Pilotless Aircraft Research Station at Wallops Island, Va., at a Mach number of 2.0 for various stagnation temperatures between 2,310° and 3,500° R. This exploratory investigation was made to determine some effects of aerodynamic heating at high stagnation temperatures on the leading edges of fins and to determine the relative effectiveness of several leading-edge protective schemes.

Book Facing the Heat Barrier

Download or read book Facing the Heat Barrier written by T. A. Heppenheimer and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonics is the study of flight at speeds where aerodynamic heating dominates the physics of the problem. It is an engineering science with close links to supersonics and engine design. Within this field, many of the most important results have been experimental. The principal facilities have been wind tunnels and related devices, which have produced flows with speeds up to orbital velocity. Why is this important? Hypersonics has had two major applications. The first has been to provide thermal protection during atmospheric reentry. Success in this enterprise has supported ballistic-missile nose cones, has returned strategic reconnaissance photos from orbit and astronauts from the Moon, and has even dropped an instrument package into the atmosphere of Jupiter. The second application has involved high-speed propulsion and has sought to develop the scramjet as an advanced airbreathing ramjet. Atmospheric entry today is fully mature as an engineering discipline, but work with its applications continues to reach for new achievements. Studies of scramjets still seek full success, in which such engines can accelerate a vehicle without the use of rockets. Hence, there is much to do in this area as well.

Book Hypersonic Flow Theory

Download or read book Hypersonic Flow Theory written by Wallace Hayes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic Flow Theory presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, focusing on the hypersonic flow theory and approaches in theoretical aerodynamics. This book discusses the assumptions underlying hypersonic flow theory, unified supersonic-hypersonic similitude, two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies, and circular cylinder. The constant-streamtube-area approximation, streamtube-continuity methods, and tangent-wedge and tangent-cone are also deliberated. This text likewise covers the similar laminar boundary layer solutions, bluntness induced interactions on slender bodies, and free molecule transfer theory. The dynamics of hypersonic flight or hypersonic wing theory, magnetohydrodynamic theory, or any developments involving treatment of the Boltzmann equation are not included. This publication is intended for hypersonic aerodynamicists, students, and researchers conducting work on the hypersonic flow phenomena.
