Book Experiments on Parity Violation in the Compound Nucleus

Download or read book Experiments on Parity Violation in the Compound Nucleus written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results from experiments that measure parity-violating longitudinal asymmetries in the scattering of epithermal neutrons from compound-nuclear resonances at the Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center at Los Alamos are discussed. Parity non-conserving asymmetries have been observed for many p-wave resonances in a single target. Measurements were performed on several nuclei in the mass region of A-100 and A-230. The statistical model of the compound nucleus provides a theoretical basis for extracting mean-squared matrix elements from the experimental asymmetry data, and for interpreting the mean-squared matrix elements. The constraints on the weak meson-exchange couplings calculated from the compound-nucleus asymmetry data agree qualitatively with the results from few-body and light-nuclei experiments. For all nuclei but 232Th measured asymmetries have random signs. For 232Th eight of eight measured asymmetries are positive. This phenomenon is discussed in terms or doorway models.

Book Parity And Time Reversal Violation In Compound Nuclear States And Related Topics Proceedings Of The International

This book was released on 1996-11-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the Proceedings of the 2010 Conference of the Italian Systems Society. Papers deal with the interdisciplinary study of processes of changing related to a wide variety of specific disciplinary aspects. Classical attempts to deal with them, based on generalising approaches used to study the movement of bodies and environmental influence, have included ineffective reductionistic simplifications. Indeed changing also relates, for instance, to processes of acquisition and varying properties such as for software; growing and aging biological systems; learning/cognitive systems; and socio-economic systems growing and developing through innovations. Some approaches to modelling such processes are based on considering changes in structure, e.g., phase-transitions. Other approaches are based on considering (1) periodic changes in structure as for processes of self-organisation; (2) non-periodic but coherent changes in structure, as for processes of emergence; (3) the quantum level of description. Papers in the book study the problem considering its transdisciplinary nature, i.e., systemic properties studied per se and not within specific disciplinary contexts. The aim of these studies is to outline a transdisciplinary theory of change in systemic properties. Such a theory should have simultaneous, corresponding and eventually hierarchical disciplinary aspects as expected for a general theory of emergence. Within this transdisciplinary context, specific disciplinary research activities and results are assumed to be mutually represented as within a philosophical and conceptual framework based on the theoretical centrality of the observer and conceptual non-separability of context and observer, related to logically open systems and Quantum Entanglement. Contributions deal with such issues in interdisciplinary ways considering theoretical aspects and applications from Physics, Cognitive Science, Biology, Artificial Intelligence, Economics, Architecture, Philosophy, Music and Social Systems.

Book Parity Violation In Atoms And In Polarized Electron Scattering

Download or read book Parity Violation In Atoms And In Polarized Electron Scattering written by Marie-anne Bouchiat and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-07-13 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years there has been considerable progress in improving the accuracy of parity violation experiments in electron scattering at high energy and in atomic physics. Recent results are a challenge to the standard electroweak theory and our understanding of hadron structure. This book is an extensive review of the advances in this field. The theoretical framework is presented at a pedagogical level, experiments and future projects are reviewed, and the results and their interpretation are discussed in depth.

Book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parity and time-reversal symmetries can be studies in neutron-nucleus interactions. Parity non-conserving asymmetries have been observed for many p-wave resonances in a compound nucleus and measurements were performed on several nuclei in the mass region of A∼100 and A∼230. The tests of time-reversal invariance in various experiments using thermal, epithermal and MeV neutrons are being developed.

Book Parity and Time reversal Violation in the Compound Nucleus

Download or read book Parity and Time reversal Violation in the Compound Nucleus written by Jonathan Curole and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for new sources of time reversal violation (TRV) is one of the highest intellectual priorities in nuclear/particle/astrophysics. New sources of CP/T violation beyond the Standard Model are needed to explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. Theoretical progress to identify the large number of possible sources for TRV has made it very clear that any single type of TRV search cannot be equally sensitive to all possible mechanisms. It is therefore essential to pursue any experiments in different systems which can be realized with sufficient sensitivity to discover something new. Since TRV in the nucleon sector has not yet been observed, a nonzero observation in any nuclear system is of fundamental importance. TRV experiments involving p-wave neutron resonances in heavy nuclei are a sensitive system for such a search. The international collaboration NOPTREX proposes a TRV search through an asymmetry in polarized neutron transmission on epithermal p-wave resonances of polarized nuclei. Multiple papers have suggested that TRV in complex nuclei has the potential to be about 2 orders of magnitude more sensitive than the current limit from neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) experiments. A sensitive search for TRV in this process expands the variety of nuclear systems available to search for TRV parameters in various theories. This helps provide assurance that possible "accidental" cancellation of TRV effects due to unknown structural factors related to the strong interactions in particular systems can be avoided.

Book Parity Violation in Nuclei

Download or read book Parity Violation in Nuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary of parity violating effects in nuclei is given. Thanks to vigorous experimental and theoretical effort, it now appears that a reasonably well-defined value for the weak isovector .pi.-nucleon coupling constant can be obtained. There is one major uncertainty in the analysis, namely the M2/E1 mixing ratio for the 2.79 MeV transition in 21Ne. This quantity is virtually impossible to calculate reliably and must be measured. If it turns out to be much larger than 1, then a null result in 21Ne is expected no matter what the weak interaction, so an experimental determination is urgently needed. The most promising approach is perhaps a measurement of the pair internal conversion coefficient. Of course, a direct measurement of a pure isovector case is highly desirable, and it is to be hoped that the four .delta. T = 1 experiments will be pushed still further, and that improved calculations will be made for the 6Li case. Nuclear parity violation seems to be rapidly approaching an interesting and useful synthesis.

Book Probing The Nuclear Paradigm With Heavy Ion Reactions Proceedings Of The International School Of Heavy Ion Physics

Download or read book Probing The Nuclear Paradigm With Heavy Ion Reactions Proceedings Of The International School Of Heavy Ion Physics written by Ricardo Americo Broglia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-22 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major developments have taken place during the last few years in the study of the nuclear paradigm as a result of recent detector and accelerator developments, and of improved theoretical models. The active use of 4-π detectors to measure the gamma decay of excited nuclei has been instrumental in exploring the consequences of extremely high rotational frequencies and excitation energies in the nuclear structure. The identification of superdeformed bands, of limiting temperature for the detection of giant resonances, and of rotational damping, are conspicuous examples of this novel type of research. Studies of the disassembling of the nucleus have been systematically carried out, and the results interpreted in terms of transport models. At even higher temperatures one expects to have a completely new regime of hot dense matter, where the hadronic properties become strongly renormalized by the medium.Furthermore, studies of the properties of the nucleon as a many-body system of quarks and gluons displaying collective degrees of freedom which are damped by couplings to more complicated states, are providing a detailed and consistent picture of the nuclear paradigm.Important progress is also taking place in situations essentially opposite to the scenarios described above, namely in the study of correlations in nuclear matter at very low temperature and density.

Book Non nucleonic Degrees Of Freedom Detected In The Nucleus Nndf 96

Download or read book Non nucleonic Degrees Of Freedom Detected In The Nucleus Nndf 96 written by Kensaku Matsuta and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-08-27 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-nucleonic degrees of freedom in the nucleus must be understood in the nucleonic framework of nucleus in relation with the structure of the nucleons from which mesons are emitted to link the nucleons, and with isobars, mesonic exchange currents, and underlying conservation laws. This topical volume sheds light on these highly exciting non-nucleonic effects extracted as the result of interplay among the constituents including quarks, and on the limit of applicability of various conservation laws.
