Book Exploring Creation with Botany

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jeannie K. Fulbright
  • Publisher : Apologia Educational Ministries
  • Release : 2004
  • ISBN : 9781932012491
  • Pages : 176 pages

Download or read book Exploring Creation with Botany written by Jeannie K. Fulbright and published by Apologia Educational Ministries. This book was released on 2004 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins with a lesson on the nature of botany and the process of classifying plants. It then discusses the development of plants from seeds, the reproduction processes in plants, the way plants make their food, and how plants get their water and nutrients and distribute them throughout the body of the plant. As students study these topics, they also learn about many different kinds of plants in creation and where they belong in the plant classification system. The activities and projects use easy-to-find household items and truly make the lessons come alive! They include making a "light hut" in which to grow plants, dissection of a bean seed, growing seeds in plastic bags to watch the germination process, making a leaf skeleton, observing how plants grow towards light, measuring transpiration, forcing bulbs to grow out of season, and forcing pine cones to open and close. We recommend that you spend the entire school year covering this book.

Book Practical Plant Physiology

Download or read book Practical Plant Physiology written by Frederick Keeble and published by White Press. This book was released on 1911 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1910, "Practical Plant Physiology" is an accessible guide to elementary botany. Originally designed for students and teachers, it offers an introductory outline of the experiments and experimental methods used in botany and plant investigation, as well as other useful information related to the subject. This volume will be of considerable utility to those with an interest in plants and botany, and it would make for a fantastic addition to collections of allied literature. Contents include: "The Problem of Plant-Physiology and the Method by which They are to be Solved", "Germination", "The Mode of Germination of Seeds", "The Parts of the Seed and Seedling", "The Resting and Active States of Seeds", "The Food-Materials of Seeds", "Changes During Germination", etc. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now complete with a specially-commissioned new introduction on botany.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experiments With Plants My plan for a series of popular botanical texts contemplated three books, "Lessons with Plants," primarily for the teacher; "Botany," for the school; and "Experiments with Plants," to suggest and explain simple ways by which the pupil could be set at the working out of real problems in the growth and behavior of plants. The first two books have appeared. When I was working on the third, I chanced to visit the laboratory of Mr. Osterhout at the University of California, at a time when he was instructing a class of teachers. I saw at once that he was better fitted than I to write the book; and, finding that he was contemplating a similar text, I gave up my enterprise and offered him the title of the proposed volume. It was at first intended that I collaborate in the preparation of the book, but insistent duties have interposed, and I have given it no personal attention; moreover, I did not feel that I could add to its usefulness; and again, a book made by two persons working so far apart, and one of them not now actively engaged in teaching, would be likely to lack homogeneity. The introduction of laboratory work has been the great contribution of natural science to pedagogy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Introduction to Botany written by William Chase Stevens and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Botany Enough work has been outlined in this book for a years course in those schools that are prepared, by suitable time allotted to the subject and by laboratory equipment, to do comprehensive and thorough work. A term could be devoted to the work outlined in Chapters I to X Inclusive; and where the daily laboratory periods are one hour or less, the entire school year could be profitably occupied by the course there outlined. It is, of course, presumed that the teacher will select from the book such work as the possibilities of his school warrant. It is not expected that each student will perform all of the physiological experiments herein outlined; but different experiments are to be assigned to individuals or groups of students, the results to be used for purpose of demonstration before the entire class. Much stress is laid on laboratory work, which is to be done with the utmost possible care and accuracy, not only that the student may respect his work and that the knowledge gained may be exact, but also that the fine opportunity which the study of plants so richly affords for training in seeing and interpreting facts, may not be passed by.
