Book New Technologies for Supercolliders

Download or read book New Technologies for Supercolliders written by L. Cifarelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 12th Workshop of the INFN ELOISATRON Project, held at the "Ettore Majorana" Centre for Scientific Culture (EMCSC), Erice (frapani), Sicily, Italy, in the period September 15-20, 1990. The proceedings deal with the presentation of "New Technologies for Supercolliders". Three new energy frontiers (16,40 and 200 TeV) are now opened up for the future of Subnuclear Physics. Basic problems above the Fermi-energy are crowding up: but no one knows the energy levels needed for their solution. This is why the technology for experiments with the new generation of Supercolliders needs to be pursued having in mind the problems which are of common interest in the three energy frontiers. The primary purpose of the Workshop was to contribute towards the highest energy limit in the search for new instruments and new technologies. Furthermore, the present status and performances of various detector technologies were reviewed. The possible options for a powerful apparatus whose goal would be the discovery of the top, Higgs and SUSY particles in a very high energy, high rate environment, were finally analysed. The Workshop was sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Italian Ministry of Education, the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technological Research and the Sicilian Regional Government. We are thankful to the staff of EMCSC for their efficient and warm support.

Book Principles of Radiation Interaction in Matter and Detection 4th Edition

Download or read book Principles of Radiation Interaction in Matter and Detection 4th Edition written by Claude Leroy and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 1345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The fourth edition of this book has been widely revised. It includes additional chapters and some sections are complemented with either new ones or an extension of their content. In this latest edition a complete treatment of the physics and properties of semiconductors is presented, covering transport phenomena in semiconductors, scattering mechanisms, radiation effects and displacement damages. Furthermore, this edition presents a comprehensive treatment of the Coulomb scattering on screened nuclear potentials resulting from electrons, protons, light- and heavy-ions -- ranging from (very) low up to ultra-relativistic kinetic energies -- and allowing one to derive the corresponding NIEL (non-ionizing energy-loss) doses deposited in any material. The contents are organized into two parts: Chapters 1 to 7 cover Particle Interactions and Displacement Damage while the remaining chapters focus on Radiation Environments and Particle Detection. This book can serve as reference for graduate students and final-year undergraduates and also as supplement for courses in particle, astroparticle, space physics and instrumentation. A section of the book is directed toward courses in medical physics. Researchers in experimental particle physics at low, medium, and high energy who are dealing with instrumentation will also find the book useful."--

Book Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and New Physics at the TeV Scale

Download or read book Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and New Physics at the TeV Scale written by Timothy L. Barklow and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an expanded version of the report by the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Beyond the Standard Model Working Group which was contributed to Particle Physics ? Perspectives and Opportunities, a report of the Division of Particles and Fields Committee for Long Term Planning. One of the Working Group's primary goals was to study the phenomenology of electroweak symmetry breaking and attempt to quantify the ?physics reach? of present and future colliders. Their investigations encompassed the Standard Model ? with one doublet of Higgs scalars ? and approaches to physics beyond the Standard Model. These include models of low-energy supersymmetry, dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, and a variety of extensions of the Standard Model with new particles and interactions. The Working Group also considered signals of new physics in precision measurements arising from virtual processes and examined experimental issues associated with the study of electroweak symmetry breaking and the search for new physics at present and future hadron and lepton colliders. This volume represents an important contribution to the efforts being made to advance the frontiers of particle physics.

Book Heavy Flavours and High Energy Collisions in the 1 100 TeV Range

Download or read book Heavy Flavours and High Energy Collisions in the 1 100 TeV Range written by A. Ali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 6th and 7th INFN ELOISATRON project workshops, held at the Centro di Cultura Scientifica "Et tore Majorana" CCSEM, Erice-Trapani, Sicily, Italy, in the period June 10-27, 1988. The topics of the two workshops were, respectively: - Heavy Flavours: Status and Perspectives, and - Novel Features of High Energy Collisions in 1-100 TeV Region. They were attended by sixty-three physicists. The two workshops were followed by a meeting of the INFN ELOISATRON working group, also held at the CCSEM in the period October 7-15, 1988 in which twenty-five physicists participated. Since there was quite a bit of overlap among speakers, participants and the topics covered at the three meetings, we have decided to issue ajoint proceeding, with the first part entitled: Heavy Flavour Physics, and the second: High Energy Physics with 1-100 Te V Proton Beams. Some of the reports included in this volume have been contributed by the INFN ELOISATRON working group members. The first. part of these proceedings deals mostly with the presentation and inter pretation of results in t.he so-called fiavour physics sector. New results, which have become available in the last three years from experiments involving kaons, charmed and beauty hadrons, and searches for the still missing top quark at the present and fothcoming colliders are topics of major interest. here. The contributions in this part are organized in three categories: Experimental Results, Theoretical Interpretation, and Future Directions.

Book 11th International Conference on Magnet Technology MT 11

Download or read book 11th International Conference on Magnet Technology MT 11 written by T. Sekiguchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years the aim of the International Conference on Magnet Technology has been the exchange of information on the design, construction and operation of magnets for a variety of applications, such as high energy physics, fusion, electrical machinery and others. The aim has included advances in materials for magnet conductors, insulators and supporting structures. Since its inception the focus of the International Conference on Magnet Technology has gradually shifted to superconducting magnets. Now almost all papers are related to superconductivity. The 11th International Conference on Magnet Technology (MT-11) was organized by the combined efforts of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, the Association for Promotion of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering, and the Tokyo Section of the IEEE. The Conference was held at the Tsukuba University Hall, Tsukuba, Japan, from 28 August to 1 September 1989, courtesy ofthe University ofTsukuba. The Tsukuba University Hall was large enough to host invited talks, parallel sessions, poster sessions and industrial exhibitions. 461 participants from 19 countries registered for MT-ll, and 280 invited and contributed papers were presented. The papers were reviewed not only by the Program Committee but also by foreign participants. Working sessions and social events were characterized by a truly international atmo sphere. Scientific as well as cultural excursions were organized so that foreign visitors could experience the spirit of modern Japan. 26 companies, of which 8 were from Western countries, participated in the industrial exhibition which featured diverse products and services of interest to the magnet community.
