Book An Experimental Investigation of Ducted Reactive Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Ducted Reactive Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation written by D. E. Chriss and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of ducted, two stream, subsonic, reactive, turbulent jet mixing with recirculation was conducted. A primary jet of air at a mass flow rate of 0.075 lb/sec and velocity of 700 ft/sec was surrounded by an outer, low velocity, hydrogen stream. Data were obtained with hydrogen-air ratios of 0.143 and 0.107. The duct-to-inner nozzle diameter ratio was ten. Radial distributions of hydrogen mass fraction, mean axial velocity, turbulence intensity, and total pressure as well as axial distributions of wall hydrogen mass fraction and wall static pressure are presented for axial stations from one-half to five duct diameters from the nozzle exit plane. Comparison of the experimental data with calculations assuming frozen or equilibrium chemistry indicate that he measured velocity, pressure, and composition data are, in general, self-consistent. The maximum turbulent intensities which occurred in the center of the mixing layer and within the recirculation eddy were very high having values of 20 percent of the jet exit velocity. The velocity and composition field indicate that, while and mixing in the reactive flow field is slower than for the nonreactive case, the reaction had little effect on the size and location of the recirculation zone within the mixing duct.

Book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Jets of Partially Dissociated Nitrogen with Ambient Air

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Jets of Partially Dissociated Nitrogen with Ambient Air written by T. J. O'Connor and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent attempts to predict the heat transfer from a high enthalpy, compressible free jet impinging upon surfaces in its path have suffered from a complete lack of knowledge concerning the behavior of turbulent jets of dissociated gases. Although it had been assumed that high enthalpy gas streams would exhibit the characteristics of cold jets, which have been subjected to extensive study, there had been no experimental evidence to support this contention. A research program was conducted to determine radial and axial variations in fluid properties, i.e., velocity, density, enthalpy, etc., in compressible free jets of dissociated gases produced by electric-arc plasma generators. Experimental investigations were confined to the near flowfield of the jets, since 90 percent of change in jet fluid properties, from their initial values at the arc nozzle-exit plane to the properties of the ambient fluid, was accomplished within 40 nozzle radii from the jet origin. Heat-transfer rates from these jets, when impinging upon a flat surface perpendicular to the jet axis, were determined experimentally. Correlation of this data could then be accomplished by means of a relationship similar to those for stagnation-point heat transfer to blunt bodies in a uniform stream when local jet properties were employed. Book Turbulent Transport Properties for Axisymmetric Heterogeneous Mixing

Download or read book Turbulent Transport Properties for Axisymmetric Heterogeneous Mixing written by V. Zakkay and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the turbulent mixing of two dissimilar gases for both subsonic and supersonic flows is presented. This investigation was carried out in order to determine the turbulent transport coefficients for hydrogen-, helium-, and argon-air mixtures in the mixing region of two coaxial jets. The basic differential equations describ ing the mean flow properties are solved for the transport coefficients. The convective derivatives which are needed in the solution of the equations are determined from the velocity and concentration profiles measured in the experiments. Values of the eddy viscosity, turbulent diffusion coefficient, and Lewis number were evaluated in this manner and the eddy viscosity so obtained is then compared with existing formulations. A new formulation for the eddy viscosity is then given whereby existing theories may still be used in analyzing the mixing process. Finally, the influence of similar velocity and concentration profiles on the transport properties is discussed and similarity parameters in both axial and radial directions are then shown to be valid for various injected gases. Book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing

Download or read book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing written by Andrew Fejér and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The main objective of the experimental study was the enhancement of mixing of jets. Three different techniques of mixing were studied: a) turbulence production at the jet interface, including the case where the jet or primary stream and secondary stream velocities are equal, b) addition of a swirl component to the jet, c) an increase in jet density. All experiments were conducted in a coflowing and ducted secondary air stream at atmospheric conditions."--P. III.
