Book An Experimental Study on Transition in Boundary Layers

Download or read book An Experimental Study on Transition in Boundary Layers written by B. R. Vasudeva and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar boundary layer on a flat plate with zero pressure gradient was excited by a solitary three dimensional disturbance. The growth of the disturbance was studied using a 10-channel linearized d.c.-coupled hot wire system. The development of the disturbance flow field was studied and compared with theory. The experimental results indicate a departure from the theory on account of the simplifying assumptions made in the theory. Certain new results were also obtained. (Author).

Book Experimental Study of Transition Induced in an Accelerated Boundary Layer at Low Reynolds Numbers

Download or read book Experimental Study of Transition Induced in an Accelerated Boundary Layer at Low Reynolds Numbers written by Richard S. Snedeker and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response of a highly accelerated laminar boundary layer to disturbances introduced by a vibrating ribbon is described. The boundary layer was formed on a flat plate under the influence of a pressure gradient equal to that occurring at a two-dimensional stagnation point. The range of initial test Reynolds numbers was 492 to 805, and the range of nondimensional disturbance frequencies (Strouhal number) was .03 to .20. The qualitative effects of disturbances from extraneous sources are discussed, and some observations of the detailed motion of the vibrating ribbon are described.

Book An Experimental Study of the Intermittent Properties of the Boundary Layer Pressure Field During Transition on a Flat Plate

Download or read book An Experimental Study of the Intermittent Properties of the Boundary Layer Pressure Field During Transition on a Flat Plate written by Frederick Cragin DeMetz and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of the intermittent wall pressure field were measured in the transition boundary layer on a large flat plate in an anechoic wind tunnel. Natural transition was achieved with a mild favorable pressure gradient at Reynolds numbers, based on downstream distance from the plate's leading edge, in excess of 7,000,000. The development of the laminar boundary layer prior to transition was in agreement with numerical solutions to the laminar boundary layer equations and with stability criteria for pressure gradient effects. The temporal, spatial, and spectral properties of the transition wall pressure field associated with the natural transition process occurring on the plate are obtained as a function of the intermittency factor, and compared with those of the fully turbulent pressure field. Specifically, the mean-square pressure, spectral densities, convection velocities, distributions of burst periods and burst rates of the intermittent pressure field are computed from the data.
