Book An Experimental Investigation of a Rectangular Jet Impinging on a Flat Surface

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of a Rectangular Jet Impinging on a Flat Surface written by Hayri Acar and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the rectangular jet flow that impinges to a flat plate normally and obliquely. The aspect ratio (nozzle exit height / nozzle exit width) of the rectangular nozzle is 2.First, to investigate the characteristics of the coming flow to the impingement surface, the free jet conditions are examined by using three different Reynolds numbers based on the nozzle exit width as 3.47x 10 4, 6.94x 10 4 and 1.04x 10 5. Then, the effect of the ratio of the nozzle-to-plate distance to nozzle exit width, H/w, on the jet impingement flow is studied for the Reynolds number of 1.05x10 5. H/w ratio is taken as 2.0, 3.08, 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0. To examine the effect of the 8, which is the angle between the jet centerline axis and the surface normal axis, on the jet impingement characteristics, q is taken as 0 o, 5 o, l0o, 15 o and 20 o.The mean velocity and turbulence intensity profiles are measured by using hot-wire anemometer. The outputs of the hot-wire system are taken and drown by a personal computer with a hot-wire software and data acquisition card. Impingement surface pressures, according to the pressure at settling chamber are measured by using a micro manometer which is connected to a personal computer with a data acquisition card. In this study, the surface oil-film technique is used to visualize the impingement surface flow pattern and smoke method is used to visualize the flow pattern of the free jet and jet impingement to a flat surface. This study consists of five main sections (Chapter 1-5) and 6 appendix (Appendix A-F).Chapter 1 is introduction. The importance of the subject, the purpose of the study and the experimental techniques that were used are mentioned..In Chapter 2., information about free jet flow and jet impingement according to literature review is given.Chapter 3., explains the instrumentation and experimental techniques. In Chapter 4. results and discussion are given. Concluding remarks are made in Chapter 5.

Book Experiments on the Oblique Impingement of Underexpanded Jets on a Flat Plate

Download or read book Experiments on the Oblique Impingement of Underexpanded Jets on a Flat Plate written by Richard S. Snedeker and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was made of the general behavior of an air jet impinging obliquely on a circular flat plate. Surface pressure distributions and velocity profiles of the resulting wall jet were measured. Typical stagnation point radial velocity gradients, their dependence on impingement angle, and their correlation with local free jet properties were also determined. Throughout the range of impingement angles studied the wall jet thickness was found to be relatively constant around the plate perimeter. The azimuthal variation of momentum flux per radian depended strongly on impingement angle and only slightly on jet strength and impingement distance. (Author).

Book An Experimental Study of Two Dimensional Supersonic Jet Impingement on a Flat Plate

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Two Dimensional Supersonic Jet Impingement on a Flat Plate written by T. F. Zien and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study of the flow field associated with a two-dimensional, supersonic jet impinging normally on a flat plate is reported. Two wedge nozzles manufactured at the design Mach numbers of 1.75 and 2.75, respectively, were used to provide the jet. Extensive pitot surveys of the free jet were first conducted to determine the quality of the free jet. Results indicate that the simple wedge nozzles were adequate in providing the desired two-dimensional jet in the free expansion configuration. Results of surface pressure measurements and schlieren photographs of the impingement flow indicating the shock patterns are then presented and discussed. Although the results are principally reported for the case of the jet at isentropic exit conditions, some results of underexpanded and overexpanded jets are also included. Some discrepancies between the experiment and the simple theory based in the method of integral relations and the inviscid flow model are noted and discussed. An 'effective' jet Mach number is introduced which accounts largely for the discrepancy between experiments and theory, and its determination is based on the measured stagnation point pressure on the plate surface. Book Survey of Literature on Flow Characteristics of a Single Turbulent Jet Impinging on a Flat Plate

Download or read book Survey of Literature on Flow Characteristics of a Single Turbulent Jet Impinging on a Flat Plate written by James W. Gauntner and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flow characteristics of single jets impinging on flat surfaces have been studied by many investigators. The results of some of the numerous studies are summarized herein. Suggested methods for determining velocities and pressures on which to base heat-transfer correlations for use in impingement cooling design are presented.

Book An Experimental Study of Jet Impingement on a Circular Cylinder

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Jet Impingement on a Circular Cylinder written by Dennis Wayne Potts and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A round turbulent jet was impinged normally upon a circular cylinder and the resulting flow field was studied. The investigation was conducted using a jet which issued from a nozzle with an 11/16 inch diameter. The cylinder had a diameter of 6 5/8 inches. The jet impinged upon the cylinder at nozzle distances of 7, 15, and 30 nozzle diameters, and at velocities of 400 and 500 ft/s. The free jet was studied and found to be 'typical' by comparing it to earlier studies done with round turbulent jets. Surface flow visualization tests were performed to determine the direction of the flow. The wall jet about the cylinder, resulting from the impinging jet, was studied. Measurements of the velocity profiles and turbulence intensities were made. These results were compared to the same information obtained for flat plates and found to be similar for the nozzle distance of 7 diameters. At nozzle distances of 15 and 30 diameters the data was no longer similar. From velocity measurements, the spread rates and decay rates of the wall jet were determined. These results were compared to similar studies done for flat plates. Decay rates were found to be less than that of flat plates and spread rates were greater than that of flat plates, especially about the circumference of the cylinder.
