Book Direct Hydroxylation of Methane

Download or read book Direct Hydroxylation of Methane written by Kazunari Yoshizawa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on theoretical and computational studies by the editor’s group on the direct hydroxylation of methane, which is one of the most challenging subjects in catalyst chemistry. These studies of more than 20 years include gas-phase reactions by transition-metal oxide ions, enzymatic reactions by two types of methane monooxygenase (soluble and particulate MMO), catalytic reactions by metal-exchanged zeolites, and methane C–H activation by metal oxide surfaces. Catalyst chemistry has been mostly empirical and based on enormous experimental efforts. The subject of the title has been tackled using the orbital interaction and computations based on extended Hückel, DFT, and band structure calculations. The strength of the theoretical studies is in the synergy between theory and experiment. Therefore, the group has close contacts with experimentalists in physical chemistry, catalyst chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and surface chemistry. This resulting book will be useful for the theoretical analysis and design of catalysts.

Book Alternative Catalytic Materials

Download or read book Alternative Catalytic Materials written by Justin S J Hargreaves and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important industrial chemical processes rely heavily on catalysis and so researchers are always on the lookout for alternative catalytic materials that may improve existing processes or lead to new ones. Families of alternative catalytic materials currently being investigated include the carbides, nitrides and phosphides as well as amorphous boron catalysts. The addition of carbon, nitrogen or phosphorous to transition metals and the creation of boron-transition metal alloys leads to catalytic materials that have interesting properties, with applications in a range of different reactions, including electrocatalysis. This book provides a comprehensive account of the preparation, characterisation and application of these catalytic materials. It is an important reference for researchers and industrialists working in heterogeneous catalysis and materials chemistry.

Book Differential Scanning Calorimetry

Download or read book Differential Scanning Calorimetry written by G.W.H. Höhne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is a well established measuring method which is used on a large scale in different areas of research, development, and quality inspection and testing. Over a large temperature range, thermal effects can be quickly identified and the relevant temperature and the characteristic caloric values determined using substance quantities in the mg range. Measurement values obtained by DSC allow heat capacity, heat of transition, kinetic data, purity and glass transition to be determined. DSC curves serve to identify substances, to set up phase diagrams and to determine degrees of crystallinity. This book provides, for the first time, an overall description of the most impor tant applications of Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Prerequisites for reliable measurement results, optimum evaluation of the measurement curves and esti mation of the uncertainties of measurement are, however, the knowledge of the theoretical bases of DSC, a precise calibration of the calorimeter and the correct analysis of the measurement curve. The largest part of this book deals with these basic aspects: The theory of DSC is discussed for both heat flux and power compensated instruments; temperature calibration and caloric calibration are described on the basis of thermodynamic principles. Desmearing of the measurement curve in different ways is presented as a method for evaluating the curves of fast transitions.

Book Tungsten

    Book Details:
  • Author : Erik Lassner
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461549078
  • Pages : 432 pages

Download or read book Tungsten written by Erik Lassner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does someone write a book about Tungsten? There are several reasons and precedents for this, the most important of which is that the last book on tungsten was written more than 20 years ago, in 1977, by St. W H. Yih and Ch T. Wang. During the intervening period there have been many new scientific and technological developments and innova tions, so it was not only our opinion but the view of many other members of the "tungsten family" that it was time to start writing a new book about tungsten. Preparations of the new book began in 1994. further impetus to the project was provided by the realization that in spite of this new knowledge having been presented at seminars or published in the technical press, a general acknowledgement of it by the majority of technicians and scientists is still far from being realized. It is our hope that this book will significantly contribute to a broader acceptance of recent scientific and technological innovations. An important prerequisite for such a project is the availability of a recently retired, experienced person willing to devote his time and talents to the tedious part of the exercise.

Book Intercalated Layered Materials

Download or read book Intercalated Layered Materials written by F.A. Lévy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials with layered structures remain an extensively investigated subject in current physics and chemistry. Most of the promising technological applications however deal with intercalation compounds of layered materials. Graphite intercalation compounds have now been known for a long time. Intercalation in transition metal dichalcogenides, on the other hand, has been investigated only recently. The amount of information on intercalated layered materials has increased far beyond the original concept for this volume in the series Physics and Chemistry of Materials with Layered Structures. The large size of this volume also indicates how important this field of research will be, not only in basic science, but also in industrial and energy applications. In this volume, two classes of materials are included, generally investigated by different scientists. Graphite intercalates and intercalates of other inorganic com pounds actually constitute separate classes of materials. However, the similarity between the intercalation techniques and some intercalation processes does not justify this separation, and accounts for the inclusion of both classes in this volume. The first part of the volume deals with intercalation processes and intercalates of transition metal dichalcogenides. Several chapters include connected topics necessary to give a good introduction or comprehensive review of these types of materials. Organic as well as inorganic intercalation compounds are treated. The second part includes contributions concerning graphite intercalates. It should be noted that graphite intercalation compounds have already been mentioned in Volumes I and V.
