Book Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Flow and Heat Transfer in a Ribbed Square Duct

Download or read book Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Flow and Heat Transfer in a Ribbed Square Duct written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present contribution describes the methodology and results of an experimental/numerical research program progressing at the von Karman Institute about the investigation of flow and heat transfer in a square section stationary duct equipped with high blockage ribs on one face. This geometry is representative of a high pressure turbine blade cooling channel. The purpose is to highlight the interaction and the synergy between experimental and simulation approaches. The paper shows how the experimental results lead to a conceptual model of the behavior and the topology of this flow. A numerical prediction of the flow over a single rib, obtained from a Large-Eddy Simulation, is able to validate this model, to provide additional information eventually not accessible by the experiments and to put in evidence the underlying structures driving the process. Simulations of a multi-rib domain put in evidence the possible existence of flow structures longer than one rib-pitch length and suggest possible avenues of futures experimental/numerical campaigns to gain a full understanding of this class of flows.

Book Numerical Prediction of Flow Heat Transfer Turbulence and Combustion

Download or read book Numerical Prediction of Flow Heat Transfer Turbulence and Combustion written by D. Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Prediction of Flow, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and Combustion: Selected Works of Professor D. Brian Spalding focuses on the many contributions of Professor Spalding on thermodynamics. This compilation of his works is done to honor the professor on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Relatively, the works contained in this book are selected to highlight the genius of Professor Spalding in this field of interest. The book presents various research on combustion, heat transfer, turbulence, and flows. His thinking on separated flows paved the way for the multi-dimensional modeling of turbulence. Arguments on the universality of the models of turbulence and the problems that are associated with combustion engineering are clarified. The text notes the importance of combustion science as well as the problems associated with it. Mathematical computations are also presented in determining turbulent flows in different environments, including on curved pipes, curved ducts, and rotating ducts. These calculations are presented to further strengthen the claims of Professor Spalding in this discipline. The book is a great find for those who are interested in studying thermodynamics.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is presented of the first year of research performed in an investigation aimed at developing a calculation scheme for predicting general three-dimensional flows in curved passages of circular and square cross-section. The experimental component deals with the implementation and validation of a laser-Doppler velocimeter and associated instrumentation. The numerical component deals with the development of a technique for reducing numerical diffusion in the calculation scheme. An update is provided of the current status of the research. A tentative schedule of work for years two and three is also given. (Author).

Book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows

Download or read book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents results of the analytical and numerical modeling of convective heat and mass transfer in different rotating flows caused by (i) system rotation, (ii) swirl flows due to swirl generators, and (iii) surface curvature in turns and bends. Volume forces (i.e. centrifugal and Coriolis forces), which influence the flow pattern, emerge in all of these rotating flows. The main part of this work deals with rotating flows caused by system rotation, which includes several rotating-disk configurations and straight pipes rotating about a parallel axis. Swirl flows are studied in some of the configurations mentioned above. Curvilinear flows are investigated in different geometries of two-pass ribbed and smooth channels with 180° bends. The author demonstrates that the complex phenomena of fluid flow and convective heat transfer in rotating flows can be successfully simulated using not only the universal CFD methodology, but in certain cases by means of the integral methods, self-similar and analytical solutions. The book will be a valuable read for research experts and practitioners in the field of heat and mass transfer.
