Download or read book Mission of Malice written by Erika Bornman and published by Penguin Random House South Africa. This book was released on 2021-08-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1980s, Erika Bornman’s family join, and ultimately move, to KwaSizabantu, a Christian mission based in KwaZulu-Natal, which is touted as a nirvana, founded on egalitarian values. But something sinister lurks beneath ‘the place where people are helped’. Life at KwaSizabantu is hard. Christianity is used to justify harsh punishments and congregants are forced to repent for their sins. Threats of physical violence ensure adherence to stringent rules. Parents are pitted against children. Friendships are discouraged. Isolated and alone, Erika lives in constant fear of eternal damnation. At 16, her grooming at the hands of a senior mission counsellor begins. For the next five years, KwaSizabantu wages emotional, psychological and sexual warfare on her, until, finally, she manages to break free and escape at the age of 21. Escaping a restrictive religious community is difficult, but rehabilitation into ‘normal’ life after a decade of ritual humiliation, brainwashing and abuse is much more painful, as Erika soon discovers. She cannot ignore her knowledge of the grievous human-rights abuses being committed at KwaSizabantu, and so she embarks on a quest to expose the atrocities. Mission of Malice – My Exodus from KwaSizabantu chronicles Erika’s journey from a fearful young girl to a fierce activist determined to do whatever it takes to save future generations and find personal redemption and self-acceptance.

Download or read book The The New Quest for Paul and His Reading of the Old Testament written by Timo Laato and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author is known as a strong opponent of the so-called New Perspective on Paul. In this book, he seeks to move beyond that debate and open new vistas in Pauline research. There is a need for much revision. The author first dives in& to a detailed exegetical study of 2 Corinthians 3, a chapter that has a reputation of being an exegetical nightmare. He examines the interpretational problems associated with the opposition between the letter that kills and the Spirit that gives life. Fresh insights emerge. Ultimately, the whole issue turns on the question whether to understand the Old Testament ac& cord& ing to the "literal-letteral" or "literal-spiritual" sense. As a consequence, Paul breaks up with Ju& da& ism and pulls down the works of the law since he competes against the view of observing the Torah "in flesh" and ac& cording to the "literal-letteral" meaning of the text. He regards such a reli& gious pur& suit as the worst form of human self-righteousness and self-praise (despite the serious efforts to true piety). On the other hand, Christians have undergone a transformation in terms of re-creation, rege& neration, resusci& tation, resur& rec& tion, or revitalization. The Spirit gives them life. He reigns in them. Hence, Christians do fulfill the whole Mosaic law. Yet, they fulfill it "in Spirit" and not "in flesh," in other words, according to the "literal-spiritual" and not "literal-letteral" sense of Scripture. As a consequence, they do not bolster their self-righteousness and self-praise. To corroborate his the& sis, the author draws on similar wordings in other Pauline letters and several passages in the Old Tes& ta& ment from Exodus, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. The author concludes that the New Perspec& tive on Paul has run its course. A New Quest for Paul is needed. Therefore, this book is needed.
Download or read book Exodus 2012 a Mission to Save the Earth written by Carol Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2012-06-24 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Exodus 2012: A Mission to Save the Earth, Jesus Christ returns, not on the clouds, but reincarnated as a Chinese Tai Chi master named Hu Jing Sheng, who brings a message designed to save the earth. Jing Sheng's message is based on both the Mayan prophecy about the year 2012 as well as the scripture verse Exodus 20:12. A global mission unfolds, with children as its centerpiece for saving life on earth. Following the story line of Moses in the book of Exodus, Jing Sheng gathers a new generation of disciples just as Christ did long ago, then leads an exodus from old, dysfunctional human patterns of belief, thought, and behavior. In the process, Jing Sheng creates a global mission of eco-communes and international travel, during which he re-presents the ten commandments, newly re-envisioned as guidelines for life. Jing Sheng confronts the Pharoahs of today, while preaching, teaching, and healing with Christ-like authority. Exodus 2012 offers a powerful, yet controversial interfaith vision for healing the earth and saving her people, while also achieving global peace and harmony.
Download or read book Christology as Narrative Quest written by Michael LaVelle Cook and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How central is narrative to human experience? to Christology? What is the significance of Mark's turn to narrative in the development of the Christian Scriptures and of the return to narrative in liberation theology as exemplified in the Mexican American experience? How does the move toward more conceptual language in the Creed and in Aquinas' Summa theologiae relate to the foundational priority of narrative? In exploring such questions this book maintains the primacy and centrality of narrative in communicating the significance of Jesus. Mark and Guadalupe, both communicating through the power of narrative, frame the Creed, which is a symbolic evocation of John's narrative, and the Summa, which even in its systematization assumes the foundational narratives. Thus, the Fathers of the Church and Thomas Aquinas, no less than the Gospel authors and Juan Diego's heirs, are seen to be on a "narrative-quest."

Download or read book The Quest for Therapy in Lower Zaire written by John M. Janzen and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1978 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Dr. John M. Janzen describes patterns of healing among the BaKongo of Lower Zaire in Africa, who, like many peoples elsewhere, utilize cosmopolitan medicine alongside traditional healing practices. What criteria, he asks, determine the choice of the alternative therapies? And what is their institutional interrelationship? In seeking answers, he analyzes case histories and cultural contexts to explore what social transactions, decisionmaking, illness and therapy classifications, and resource allocations are used in the choice of therapy by the ill, their kinfolk, friends, asociates, and specialized practitioners. From the Preface: This book presents an "on the ground" ethnographic account of how medical clients of one region of Lower Zaire diagnose illness, select therapies, and evaluate treatments, a process we call "therapy management." The book is intended to clarify a phenomenon of which central African clients have long been cognizant, namely, that medical systems are used in combination. Our study is aimed primarily at readers interested in the practical issues of medical decision-making in an African country, the cultural content of symptoms, and the dynamics of medical pluralism, that is, the existence in a single society of differently designed and conceived medical systems.
Download or read book How Einstein Created Relativity out of Physics and Astronomy written by David Topper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tracks the history of the theory of relativity through Einstein’s life, with in-depth studies of its background as built upon by ideas from earlier scientists. The focus points of Einstein’s theory of relativity include its development throughout his life; the origins of his ideas and his indebtedness to the earlier works of Galileo, Newton, Faraday, Mach and others; the application of the theory to the birth of modern cosmology; and his quest for a unified field theory. Treading a fine line between the popular and technical (but not shying away from the occasional equation), this book explains the entire range of relativity and weaves an up-to-date biography of Einstein throughout. The result is an explanation of the world of relativity, based on an extensive journey into earlier physics and a simultaneous voyage into the mind of Einstein, written for the curious and intelligent reader.
