These were good men; men who had already decided that, in response to God's call, they would give themselves entirely to the work and ministry of the Church. Nonetheless, the freedom required for such an endeavor was limited by destructive habits that would prevent the realization of this worthy goal. Perhaps some would find this scandalous: men studying for the priesthood who struggled with base inclinations. They made the lament of the Lord their own prayer: "Let my son go that he may love me" (Exodus 4:23). Yet, if one would but consider that these men struggled, what about other men, like those preparing for marriage, who may also be in need of a life giving and liberating spiritual exercise?
