La littérature française n'a que peu abordé le point de vue des chirurgiens-dentistes sur leurs conditions de travail dans ce milieu et cette forme d'exercice semble souffrir d'un manque de valorisation. Une enquête sous forme de questionnaire, a été menée auprès des chirurgiens-dentistes exerçant dans les établissements pénitentiaires français en 2016. Les résultats de cette étude permettent de mettre en évidence les conditions de travail des praticiens, leurs relations avec le personnel médical/pénitentiaire, celles avec lespatients/détenus, ainsi que leur ressenti, dans ce contexte inhabituel. L'objectif de cette étude est également de faire connaitre cette forme d'activité à l'ensemble de la profession et de sensibiliser ses membres à une nouvelle approche de leur pratique.
