The aim of this textbook is to enable student teachers to learn to teach history in a way that pupils will find interesting, enjoyable and purposeful. It incorporates a wide range of ideas about the teaching of history with practical suggestions for classroom practice. This is the third edition of a textbook that has established itself as the leading text for student teachers of history. It has been thoroughly updated, with a revised chapter on the use of ICT in history teaching and major new sections in the areas of inclusion, resources, assessment and professional development. It provides an array of references and materials that give a sound theoretical foundation for the teaching of history, including weblinks to further resources. A range of tasks enable students to put their learning into practice in the classroom. The book also provides reference and access to a wide range of recent and relevant research in the field of history education, which will be of use to student teachers pursuing courses that have a Masters Level component. Book Extracurricular Activities of High School Students and the Understanding of History

Download or read book Extracurricular Activities of High School Students and the Understanding of History written by Michael L. Penney and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether extracurricular activities of high school students has any effect on their achievement in the subject of history. This was an ex-post facto study. One hundred and fifty one students responded to a survey and their answers were cross-referenced with their grades in history class. Findings suggest that participation in an extracurricular activity that takes up five to fifteen hours a week significantly increases achievement in the subject of history. Also, students who were cut from an extracurricular activity had significantly lower averages in history than those that had never been cut. Future recommendations would be larger scale studies looking at different student populations.

Book Learning to Teach History in the Secondary School

Download or read book Learning to Teach History in the Secondary School written by Terry Haydn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2001-06-14 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for all students learning to teach in secondary schools, and particularly those on school-based Initial Teacher Training courses, the books in this best-selling series complement our key textbook Learning to Teach in the Secondary School and its companion Starting to Teach in the Secondary School. Each book in the series applies underpinning theory and addresses practical issues to support students in school and in the higher education institution in learning how to teach a particular subject. This revised edition of the student reference guide for student teachers of history enables the reader to teach history in a way that pupils will find interesting, enjoyable and purposeful. It incorporates a wide range of ideas about the teaching of history with practical suggestions for classroom practice, and ideas for further investigations of particular aspects of teaching and learning in history. The book also covers questions such as how to provide for differential learning and how to utilise the potential of new technology in the history classroom. The new edition has an updated chapter on ICT and reflects the recent changes in emphasis in the history curriculum including citizenship, and social, cultural and ethnic diversity. The induction of newly qualified teachers is addressed as are recent concerns about teachers' subject knowledge. The first edition rapidly became the key textbook in this field and has consistently enjoyed large sales. The second edition is destined to perform even better.

Book How Should We Then Live

Download or read book How Should We Then Live written by Francis A. Schaeffer and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2022-03-09 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Francis Schaeffer's Classic Analysis of the Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture Civilizations throughout history have built societies around their own limited value systems including rulers, finite gods, or relativism—only to fail. The absence of a Christian foundation eventually leads to breakdown, and those signs are visible in present-day culture as well. Can modern society avoid the same fate? In this latest edition of How Should We Then Live?, theologian Francis A. Schaeffer traces the decline of Western culture from the fall of Rome, through the Middle Ages and the Enlightenment, and up to the twentieth century. Studying humanism's impact on philosophy, science, and religion, he shows how this worldview historically results in apathy, chaos, and decline. Schaeffer's important work calls on readers to live instead by Christian ethics, placing their trust in the infinite personal God of the Bible. Originally written in 1976, How Should We Then Live? remains remarkably applicable today. A Theology Classic: Written by renowned Christian philosopher Francis A. Schaeffer For Those Interested in Philosophy and History: Engages with the ideas of Plato, John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, and Voltaire, and examines the art, architecture, and ideas that shaped modern society Explores the Importance of a Christian Worldview: A practical assessment of the evolution of culture and the steadfast alternative offered by the biblical perspective
