Download or read book Evolution of Educational Policies in India written by KHRITISH SWARGIARY and published by LAP. This book was released on 2023-09-03 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the ambitious vision of the NEP 1968 that aimed to propel India into the ranks of advanced nations, to the paradigm shift brought about by NEP 1986, emphasizing access, equity, and quality, we delve into the intentions, outcomes, and challenges posed by these policies. The vocational focus of NEP 1992, aligning education with India's emerging economic landscape, and the holistic approach of NEP 2020, envisioning a modern and multidisciplinary education system, are also under our analytical lens. Throughout this book, we not only aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of each policy but also to draw connections between them, uncovering the threads that link the past to the present and beyond. As we analyze the objectives, implementations, and repercussions of these policies, we seek to shed light on the lessons learned, the successes celebrated, and the challenges yet to be overcome.

This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively chronicles the history of the education policymaking in India from 1947 to 2016 with a focus on the developments after 1964 when the Kothari Commission was constituted. The book is informed by the rare insights acquired by the author while making policy at the state, national, and international levels of governance. Another distinguishing feature of this book lies in the attention it pays to the process and politics of policymaking and the larger setting—or, to use jargon, the political and policy environment— in which policies were made at different points of time. The author brings out a crucial analysis of the Indian educational system against the backdrop of national and global political, economic, and educational developments. Two other distinguishing features of the book are the systematic treatment of the regulation of education and the role of judiciary in the making and implementation of education policies.

Book excerpt: There was a massive turn of events in education in the late 1990s particularly with the emergence of right wing BJP into power. We decided to take a fresh look at the dynamics of development of Indian education based on our experience in Indian Education: Development since Independence. Several major institutions like CABE ACC etc. were adapted to suit political agenda of cultural nationalism during the NDA regime. There was no qualitative shift during the succeeding UPA regime though it resurrected CABE. Biggest casualties were the national institutions with unmistakable dwarfing of the people in the leadership positions. School curriculum shuttled between the 'left' and 'right' leaving students' interest in the back burner. Students' anti-reservation agitation met with water cannons 'lathis' and gunshots when Delhi traders' agitation met with political sympathy across party lines. Indeed a dangerous trend of politicalization of education was set in motion. This dynamics needs to be captured. This book comprises 15 chapters; a chapter each on to elementary education adult education education of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes secondary education higher education technical education women's education inclusive education educational technology teacher education media in education open and distance education and educational financing. Book Contextualising Educational Studies in India

Download or read book Contextualising Educational Studies in India written by Pradeep Kumar Choudhury and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents an interdisciplinary framework to map out contemporary educational studies in India. Based on conceptual tools, quantitative methods and ethnographic accounts drawn from extensive fieldwork, it addresses emerging discourses on educational policies, their operation in the everyday functioning of institutions and actual practices in teaching and learning. Individual chapters discuss the intersectionality in the current educational system of region, gender, class, caste and minorities. With comparative perspectives and case studies from across states, including under-studied rural and urban regions of India, the book explores a wide range of issues affecting the educational system, including socioeconomic and gender inequalities; the educational status of tribal settlements in the hinterlands and their respective urban areas; the marginalisation of minorities; challenges in accessing educational avenues and choices; and the model for imparting vocational education and training. It navigates complex sites of discrimination and exclusion in the institutional spaces of the educational system and assesses the consequences of market dynamics and ideological undercurrents. Presenting first-hand information from the field, it evaluates educational policies, practices and research; investigates challenges and failures; provides suggestions and fosters critical thinking for a knowledge society. The findings in this book will be of interest to researchers, scholars and teachers of education, economics, sociology, urban education and the politics of education, as well as of public policy, governance and development studies. It will also be useful to research institutions, policymakers, educationists, social scientists, education professionals, and governmental and non-governmental bodies working on education.

Book Teacher Quality and Education Policy in India

Download or read book Teacher Quality and Education Policy in India written by Preeti Kumar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By drawing on quantitative data and qualitative analyses of five major national education policies implemented in India over the last 15 years, this comprehensive volume explores their impact on teacher quality and perceived effectiveness, explaining how this relates to variations in student performance. Responding to a national agenda to increase the quality of the Indian teacher workforce, Teacher Quality and Education Policy in India critically questions the application of human capital theory to Indian education policy. Chapters provide in-depth and strategically structured analyses of five national policies – including the recently approved National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 – to see how Indian policymakers use teacher quality as a driver and measurement of education and national economic development. Ultimately, the text offers evidence-based policy recommendations to improve teacher quality in India, suggesting that while all five policies have contributed significant frameworks and recommendations for teacher quality reform, they have failed to move beyond a symbolic function. Given its rigorous methodological approach, this book will be a valuable addition to the under-researched question of education policymaking in postcolonial contexts. It will be an indispensable resource not only for scholars working on policymaking in the Indian context, but also for those working at the intersection of education, teacher development, and policymaking in developing countries.

Book Evolution of Education in India

Download or read book Evolution of Education in India written by Lachhman Dass Bhimbat and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Evolution of Education in India: a historical perspective" takes a look at the status of education in India during the ancient times, investigates its evolution over the millennia and proposes its future course. The first chapter takes a brief look at the effects of foreign domination on India's educational scene. The second chapter provides variegated education related perspectives of different thinkers as well as practices in different countries. The third chapter places the current Indian education scene in perspective and makes well thought out “non-glamorous” suggestions to improve the entire system. It harks back to India's civilizational glory in the field of education in an attempt to revive the people's traditional attitude towards education even as they assimilate the latest and the best in this field in order to resume their traditional leadership in the field of pedagogy. There was a time when students from as far as Greece and China – as well as other parts of the world – used to take pride in studying in India's educational institutions. India needs to resurrect that glory. This volume emphatically advocates that this can be achieved if the country's policy makers marry India's traditional systems with the avant-garde.
