Book So Others Will Remember

Download or read book So Others Will Remember written by Ronald Headland and published by Vehicule Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So Others Will Remember features essays and works by historians, writers, political scientists, artists, lawyers, psychologists, clergy, and survivors from a wide range of perspectives. This volume does not pretend to reflect or offer any orthodoxies in Holocaust scholarship or Holocaust education--it intentionally deals with a variety of subjects and perspectives as offered by a variety of researchers and survivors. Because the Holocaust casts a wide shadow, it falls within the ambit of many areas of human thought. So Others Will Remember is a combination of history and memory, or more precisely, of historical analysis and painful recollection.

Book excerpt: In this book, author and teacher Katy Ridnouer focuses on the potentially overwhelming, sometimes puzzling, often delicate work of engaging both students and parents in the pursuit of learning and achievement. Structured around the questions teachers ask themselves about engagement goals and challenges, Everyday Engagement offers specific strategies to try — in your classroom, with your students, and with their parents—that will help you * Connect with students and parents as individuals. * Communicate invitations to engagement (and regroup and respond if your initial invitations are rejected). * Provide appropriate, ongoing support and encouragement that will keep students in class, behavior in check, and learning on track. * Anticipate and handle setbacks and complications in teacher-student and teacher-parent relationships. * Tap outside resources to extend learning beyond the walls of the classroom. Ridnouer believes that every teacher has the power to make students and parents partners in learning. When a teacher embeds pro-engagement action and attitudes into everyday practice, the question is not if students and parents will be engaged in classroom learning, but how they will choose to engage and how far that engagement will take them.

Book German Protestants Remember the Holocaust

Download or read book German Protestants Remember the Holocaust written by K. Hannah Holtschneider and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2001 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the 1980s-90s, examines how Protestants in Germany interpret their self-understanding as part of the community which is defined by its connection to the Nazi past. Analyzes representations of the Holocaust and of the Christian-Jewish relationship in three German Protestant theological texts: the 1980 statement of the Rhineland synod of the Evangelical Church "Zur Erneuerung des Verhältnisses von Christen und Juden"; Marquardt's theological text "Von Elend und Heimsuchung der Theologie: Prolegomena zur Dogmatik" (1992); and Britta Jüngst's dissertation "Auf der Seite des Todes das Leben" (1996). The analysis of these texts is informed by the development of narratives of collective memory of the Holocaust in German society in the 1980s-90s, from the miniseries "Holocaust" to the Goldhagen controversy. All three texts admit the responsibility of Christianity and Christians for the Holocaust and build theologies that do not reject Jews. Contends that, contrary to their stated intentions, most Holocaust theologians do not truly listen to the Jewish perspective. Calls on practitioners of "theology after Auschwitz" to embrace Jews and Judaism in order to restore the credibility of Christian Churches which abandoned the Jews in Auschwitz.
