Book excerpt: The Christian faith presents a distinctive vision of last things: that God in Christ aims to reconcile the world to himself, and through his Spirit and a new people, to set all things to right. This good news is for all nations and peoples, but for too long the Christian doctrine of eschatology has focused on debates and arguments rooted solely in the Western church. In All Things New, leading theologians and biblical scholars from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and North America offer readers a glimpse of how Christians around the globe are perceiving and describing the Christian hope. The result is a remarkably refreshing and distinctive vision of eschatology guaranteed to raise new questions and add new insights to the global church’s vision of the eschaton.

Book La Puerta Cerrada Del Oriente

Download or read book La Puerta Cerrada Del Oriente written by Alex Camacho, PhD and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Liberation Theologies Postmodernity and the Americas

Download or read book Liberation Theologies Postmodernity and the Americas written by David Batstone and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simultaneously arising out of such diverse contexts as the black community in the United States, grassroots religious communities in Latin America, and feminist circles in North Atlantic countries, theologies of liberation have emerged as a resource and inspiration for people seeking social and political freedom. Over the last three decades, liberation theology has irrevocably altered religious thinking and practice throughout the Americas. Liberation Theologies, Postmodernity and the Americas provides a meaningful and spirited debate on vital interpretive issues in religion, philosophy, and ethics. The renowned group of scholars explore liberation theologies' uses of discourses of emancipation, revolution and utopia in contrast with postmodernism's suspicion of grand narratives, while assessing what the postmodernism/liberation debate means for strategies of social and political transformation. Guided by the experiences of those at the margins of social power, liberation theologies demystify the eurocentric myths of secularization and modernity, and calls for a re-appraisal of religion in contemporary societies. Contributors: Edmund Arens, David Batstone, Maria Clara Bingemer, Enrique Dussel, Gustavo Gutierrez, Jurgen Habermas, Franz Hinkelammert, Dwight Hopkins, Lois Ann Lorentzen, Eduardo Mendieta, Amos Nascimento, Elsa Tamez, Mark McLain Taylor, and Sharon Welch, Robert Allen Warrior

Book A Case for Historic Premillennialism

Download or read book A Case for Historic Premillennialism written by Craig L. Blomberg and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2009-02-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many evangelical readers who have learned the basics of eschatology from popular authors and more recently from novelists assume that dispensational premillennialism, with its distinctive teachings about the pretribulation rapture of the church, is the only reliable view of the end times and the return of Christ. This volume, however, offers a compelling case for an alternative perspective--one that was widely prevalent throughout church history. The contributors, all respected scholars in their respective fields, suggest that classic premillennialism offers believers a more coherent and viable approach to understanding eschatology. Their studies, which examine eschatology from biblical, theological, historical, and missiological approaches, provide a broadly accessible argument for returning to the perspectives of historic premillennial eschatology.

Book If Not Pre Trib Rapture Then What

Download or read book If Not Pre Trib Rapture Then What written by Teri Sue Riddering TH.D. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a careful attempt to explore and “fill in the picture” of the eschatological puzzle using the entire Biblical Scripture cohesively within a conceptual framework of two peoples, Jew and Christian, who are His people of the New Covenant (Jer. 31:31; Matt. 2:28) united under one Messiah as “one new man” (Eph. 2:15). Using solid hermeneutical practices, the author attempts to disprove some major aspects of the Pretribulational “Rapture” theory because it produces a distorted picture of future events regarding the relationship between Jews and Christians. She has organized prophetic past, present, and future events into a logical and coherent sequence that more closely resembles historical reality and God’s eternal plans. At the end, she highlights some of the similarities between Christian and Jewish eschatologies, and then describes the final outcome of God’s purposes with mankind while offering some suggestions as to what Christians can do as they await victoriously for the converging of both eschatologies and the fulfillment of all things.

Book Se Puede Saber Si Dios Existe

Download or read book Se Puede Saber Si Dios Existe written by Hector Avalos and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This primer on biblical criticism and key problems in religion and philosophy is intended as an introduction to these complex subjects for Spanish-speaking laypersons with little or no prior scientific training in the area. Professor Avalos critically reviews the classic arguments for the existence of God, alleged miracles and faith-healing, the belief that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, problems of good and evil in the Bible, creation stories, biblical prophecy, the resurrection of Jesus, and many other topics. In the last part of the book, Avalos discusses the scientific worldview, especially as it impinges upon the question of the existence of God. A notes section allows readers to explore more deeply the areas touched on in the text; appendices provide information on the sources of many biblical stories and beliefs in Mesopotamian and other ancient Near Eastern cultures; and a final personal note briefly recounts the author''s experiences from his upbringing in fundamentalist Christianity to his current skeptical view. This informative volume is an excellent starting point for those who wish to explore with a minimum of resources basic questions in religion, philosophy, and biblical studies.

Book Pentecostal Theology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Pneuma Book Award 2018, from The Society for Pentecostal Studies. Pentecostalism is the most rapidly growing branch of Christianity since the 20th century, yet it does not lend itself well to a singular doctrine and there is, therefore, no single comprehensive account of Pentecostal theology worldwide. In this volume, Wolfgang Vondey suggests an account of Pentecostal theology that is genuine to Pentecostals worldwide while allowing for different adaptation and explication among the various Pentecostal groups. He argues that Pentecostal theology is fundamentally concerned with the renewal of the Christian life identified by the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and directed toward the kingdom of God. The book unfolds in two main parts illustrating the full gospel story and theology. Eleven chapters identify the spiritual underpinnings and motivations for Pentecostal theology, formulate a Pentecostal theology of action, translate, apply, and exemplify Pentecostal practices and experiences, and integrate Pentecostal theology in the wider Christian tradition.
