Book Tutorials in Event Related Potential Research Endogenous Components

Download or read book Tutorials in Event Related Potential Research Endogenous Components written by W. Ritter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the human brain, event related potentials (ERPs) can be obtained which reflect psychological information processing. This book summarizes the theoretical and methodological aspects of research on the so-called ``endogenous'' components of the ERP. These components are invoked by psychological processing rather than evoked by the mere presentations of external stimuli.

Book Lateralization in the Nervous system

Download or read book Lateralization in the Nervous system written by Stevan Harnad and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lateralization in the Nervous System reviews various aspects of lateralization in the nervous system, with emphasis on approaches such as the investigation of turning tendencies and electrocortical indices of hemispheric asymmetry. Experimental paradigms and outcomes that are applicable to both human and nonhuman species are highlighted. This book is comprised of 26 chapters and begins with an overview of functional lateralization in nonhuman species such as monkeys. Brain asymmetry is examined in context with other biological asymmetries in the quest for general mechanisms and principles of lateralization. The problem of inheritance, embryology, and development of asymmetry is also discussed from a variety of environmentalist and nativist perspectives. Highly suggestive invertebrate and avian models for lateralization are presented, along with the evidence for cerebral dominance and handedness in nonhuman species. Human clinical neuropsychological findings, such as the effects of unilateral cortical and thalamic lesions and the syndrome of unilateral neglect, are considered, together with asymmetries in perception and attention. This monograph will be of interest to psychologists (physiological, cognitive, developmental, and clinical), behavioral biologists, neuroscientists, neurologists, and psychiatrists, as well as to scholars and educators from the humanities and social sciences who are concerned with the nature and biological bases of left-right differences in brain, behavior, and thinking.

Book Effects of Perceptual Context on Event related Brain Potentials During Auditory Spatial Attention

Download or read book Effects of Perceptual Context on Event related Brain Potentials During Auditory Spatial Attention written by Stephen Richard Arnott and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance on a selective attention task was measured in different conditions promoting the grouping of auditory locations. Short and long noise bursts were randomly presented at three azimuth locations. Participants were required to attend to one location and respond to infrequent, longer duration sounds occurring there. The spatial separation between task-relevant and task-irrelevant stimuli was varied between blocks of trials. In the Evenly-Spaced (ES) block, middle and far distractors were 60° and 120° respectively from the attended location. In the distractor clustering blocks, either the "farthest" distractor was moved 30° closer to the middle distractor, or vice versa. In the attended clustering blocks, the attended location was moved 30° closer to the middle tone, or vice versa. Relative to ES, event-related potential indexes of attention were larger when the distractors were spatially clustered together. Results are interpreted in terms of an object-based hypothesis of auditory attention.

Book Cognitive Psychophysiology Event Related Potentials and the Study of Cognition

Download or read book Cognitive Psychophysiology Event Related Potentials and the Study of Cognition written by Emanuel Donchin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1984, Cognitive Psychophysiology: Event-related Potentials and the Study of Cognition is the first volume to come out of The Carmel Conferences: designed to examine in detail the assertion that the endogenous components of the Event-Related Brain Potential (ERP) can serve as a tool in the analysis of cognition. The intent of this book was to examine on a rather broad front the claims of cognitive psychophysiology to a niche in the domain of cognitive science. Discussions included: selective attention; the ERP and decision and memory processes; preparatory processes; mental chronometry; perceptual processes; individual differences and clinical applications. It provides an interesting snapshot of the status of ERP research just as it was venturing assertively into cognitive science.

Book Event Related Brain Potentials in Man

Download or read book Event Related Brain Potentials in Man written by Enoch Callaway and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Event-Related Brain Potentials in Man contains the proceedings of a conference held on April 26-29, 1977, and sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health in Rockville, Maryland to assess the field of event-related brain potential (ERP) research. The papers explore findings on ERPs in man in relation to the link between brain and behavior, brain functions, mental states, and drug interactions. Organized into eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the functional neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of ERPs, along with their measurement. It then proceeds with a discussion of some applications of ERPs to patients with neurological and sensory impairment, the use of ERPs to analyze sensation as well as perception and attention, the endogenous components of the ERP, the ERP correlates of psychopathology, and the event-related brain potentials across the life span. The reader is also introduced to ethical issues regarding ERPs, with reference to the history of encephalography. An epilogue assessing the increased status and maturity of the ERP field, along with uncharted territories and future prospects, concludes the book. This book will be of interest to scientists and clinical investigators working in biological sciences, neuropsychology, psychiatry, and neurology.

Book Remembered Present

Download or read book Remembered Present written by Gerald Edelman and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by Nobel Prize laureate Gerald M. Edelman, this book develops a remarkable theory of consciousness that integrates findings from the recent explosive growth of the neurosciences with current knowledge of anatomy, cell biology, and psychology. In constructing a detailed model of how we become aware of our own existence, Edelman provides an outlook that may prompt a fundamental revision in the way linguists view language, physicians classify mental disease, and philosophers look at the mind-body problem. Notes and Index.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1992, this book presents original psychophysiological research based on computerized techniques of recording and evaluating event-related brain potentials. The application of multichannel magnetoencephalography greatly contributes to exact localization of corresponding neuronal generators responsible for attention. The book contains a bulk of information concerning data obtained by cognitive psychology in the area of study of attention. These results are closely linked with neurophysiological investigation of attention.
