Book Evaluating Obesity Prevention Efforts

Download or read book Evaluating Obesity Prevention Efforts written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-01-11 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obesity poses one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century, creating serious health, economic, and social consequences for individuals and society. Despite acceleration in efforts to characterize, comprehend, and act on this problem, including implementation of preventive interventions, further understanding is needed on the progress and effectiveness of these interventions. Evaluating Obesity Prevention Efforts develops a concise and actionable plan for measuring the nation's progress in obesity prevention efforts-specifically, the success of policy and environmental strategies recommended in the 2012 IOM report Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention: Solving the Weight of the Nation. This book offers a framework that will provide guidance for systematic and routine planning, implementation, and evaluation of the advancement of obesity prevention efforts. This framework is for specific use with the goals and strategies from the 2012 report and can be used to assess the progress made in every community and throughout the country, with the ultimate goal of reducing the obesity epidemic. It offers potentially valuable guidance in improving the quality and effect of the actions being implemented. The recommendations of Evaluating Obesity Prevention Efforts focus on efforts to increase the likelihood that actions taken to prevent obesity will be evaluated, that their progress in accelerating the prevention of obesity will be monitored, and that the most promising practices will be widely disseminated.

This book was released on 2019-02-07 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to the Global Financial Crisis, the IMF launched many initiatives to strengthen financial surveillance and better advise member countries of vulnerabilities and risks. While these initiatives have not yet been tested by a major crisis, the efforts have delivered a substantial upgrade of the Fund’s financial surveillance, including giving the IMF clearer responsibilities over financial sector stability and cross-country spillovers; making periodic financial stability assessments mandatory for jurisdictions with systemically important financial sectors; invigorating efforts to integrate financial and macroeconomic analysis in bilateral and multilateral surveillance; enhancing cooperation with the Financial Stability Board and standard setting bodies to promote reforms and monitor agreed standards; and taking steps to recruit and train greater financial expertise. While recognizing these achievements, this evaluation finds that the quality and impact of the IMF’s financial surveillance has been uneven. The expansion of products and activities has presented the Fund with difficult trade-offs between bilateral and multilateral surveillance; between countries with systemically important financial sectors and other member countries; and between financial surveillance and other activities. Moreover, resource constraints have slowed the needed build-up of financial and macrofinancial expertise. These are critical issues, given the IMF’s position as the only international financial institution with the mandate and ability to conduct financial and macrofinancial surveillance over the full range of countries as well as the global economy, and given that these issues are at the core of the IMF’s responsibilities. Thus, to further strengthen financial surveillance, the evaluation recommends devoting greater resources to financial surveillance overall; further strengthening financial and macrofinancial analysis in Article IV surveillance; refining resource allocation for FSAPs; enhancing rigor and transparency in multilateral surveillance; intensifying efforts to be a global center of excellence on financial and macrofinancial research; and extending efforts to develop financial expertise among IMF staff.

Book Joint evaluation of collaboration among the United Nations Rome Based Agencies

Download or read book Joint evaluation of collaboration among the United Nations Rome Based Agencies written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UN Rome-based agencies (RBAs) – FAO, IFAD and WFP – collaborate in many forms, from joint advocacy, policy and technical work to joint projects. This is the first independent evaluation of collaboration among the RBAs. It has been jointly undertaken by the evaluation offices of FAO, IFAD and WFP. The evaluation’s primary objective was to assess whether and to what extent RBA collaboration is contributing to the achievement of the 2030 agenda, particularly at country level. The evaluation found that collaboration among the RBAs is a daily reality, reflecting the shared strengths and commitment of these distinctly different organizations. Although competition for resources continues in some contexts, there is widespread recognition of complementarity. In some cases, the current collaborative management processes are not the best way to stimulate joint work, with some types of collaboration imposing higher transaction costs. The operating context for the RBAs is dynamic, with significant potential, and where realism and pragmatism are key to meaningful and effective collaboration. Presently, efforts to promote RBA collaboration are not fully grounded in an accurate understanding of the conditions in which it is most effectively pursued and the formal statements of corporate commitment to collaboration reflect this. The report makes six recommendations, of which five are addressed to management of the three agencies and one of which targets the member states. Recommendation 1. Update the MOU among the RBAs. Although the current five-year MOU was only signed three years ago, significant changes since then make an update necessary. Recommendation 2. Restructure and reinforce the coordination architecture for RBAC within the framework of UNDS reform to ensure that at all levels, the coordination and evaluation of RBAC includes more proactive efforts to develop and disseminate lessons and knowledge about how to optimize collaboration among and beyond the RBAs, about the costs and benefits of RBAC, and about technical experience that can be usefully shared. Recommendation 3. Further embrace the new joint programming mechanisms at the country level and ensure constructive, collaborative RBA engagement with these mechanisms. Recommendation 4. Focus administrative collaboration efforts on further embracing the United Nations efficiency agenda. Recommendation 5. In considering the development of joint projects and programmes, assess the costs and benefits of the proposed collaboration and only proceed if the benefits outweigh the costs. Recommendation 6. The Member States of the RBA Governing Bodies should reappraise and adequately resource their position on RBA collaboration.

Book 1998 Annual Review of Development Effectiveness

Download or read book 1998 Annual Review of Development Effectiveness written by Robert Buckley and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ongoing financial crisis has raised questions about the underpinnings of development assistance and the role of international financial institutions. A new development assistance framework, grounded in partnership, is emerging. That is the backdrop for this year's review, which--as in past years--tracks the World Bank's operational performance based on the findings of recent evaluations. After the backdrop provided in chapter one, the chapters that follow review recent evidence about the Bank's development effectiveness. Chapter 2 describes project and sector performance trends. Chapter 3 considers recent evaluation lessons at the country level. It draws on OED's (Operations Evaluation Department) country assistance evaluations to help draw out the lessons of the ongoing crisis. Chapter 4 draws lessons that can be inferred from thematic studies. The final chapter discusses the implications for Bank operations and evaluation.

Book Examining Teach For All

Download or read book Examining Teach For All written by Matthew A.M. Thomas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Winner, 2022 Outstanding Book Award from the Society of Professors of Education* *Winner, 2021 Book Award from the Globalization and Education SIG, Comparative and International Education Society* Examining Teach For All brings together research focused on Teach For All and its affiliate programmes to explore the organisation’s impact on education around the world. Teach For All is an expanding global network of programmes in more than 50 countries that aim to radically transform education systems by recruiting talented graduates to teach for two years in under-resourced schools and developing them into lifelong advocates of reform. The volume offers nuanced insights into the interests and contexts shaping Teach For All and the challenges and possibilities inherent in broader efforts to enact education reform on a global scale. This volume is the first of its kind to present empirical research on the emergence and expansion of Teach For All programmes, which replicate and adapt the Teach For America model around the world. The volume traces the network’s expansion from its initial launch in 2007 to its growing international presence, as chapters present new research from national contexts as diverse as Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Spain. Using evidence from a range of perspectives and research methodologies, the chapters collectively highlight the ways in which Teach For All and its affiliate programmes are working to alter educational landscapes worldwide. This book will be of great interest for scholars, educators, post-graduate students, and policymakers in the fields of comparative education, teacher education, education leadership, and education policy. It paves the way for future critical inquiry into this expanding global network as well as further investigations of educational change around the world.

Book Independent review of the Working for Health programme and its Multi Partner Trust Fund

Download or read book Independent review of the Working for Health programme and its Multi Partner Trust Fund written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Working for Health five-year action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth (2017–2021) draws on the recommendations of the report of the United Nations High-level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth. It is delivered principally through the joint intersectoral W4H programme and its Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) in partnership with WHO, ILO and OECD. A major part of its objectives is to stimulate workforce actions in alignment with national, regional and global strategies and plans. These actions are delivered at country and regional level through multisectoral Member State-led collaboration and catalytic technical and financial support. Other joint W4H work includes developing and adapting key global public goods, including an international platform for health worker mobility, an interagency data exchange platform, an ILO and OECD approach to anticipating the skills needs of health workers, and a methodology for measuring employment impact. This document presents the findings of an independent end-of-project review of the Working for Health five-year action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth (2017–2021) Working for Health Multi Partner Trust Fund over the first action plan period. This included direct support to 13 countries, two economic regions and three global projects. The review is based on the evaluation criteria of relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. The review also looks to the future of sustaining investment and support for implementation of subsequent projects under the new Working for Health 2022–2030 Action Plan and its MPTF, which was extended by Member States at the Seventy-fifth World Health Assembly in May 2022.

Providing a detailed look at the pros, cons and areas for improvement in evidence-based policy and practice, this book includes consideration of the following: What is involved in a robust evaluation for education. The issues in conducting trials and how to assess the trustworthiness of research findings. New methods for the design, conduct, analysis and use of evidence from trials and examining their implications. What policy-makers, head teachers and practitioners can learn from the evidence to inform practice. In this well-structured and thoughtful text, the results and implications of over 20 studies conducted by the authors are combined with a much larger number of studies from their systematic reviews, and the implications are spelled out for the research community, policy-makers, schools wanting to run their own evaluations, and for practitioners using evidence.
