Download or read book Evaluation of Thin Overlays for Bridge Decks written by Steven M. Soltesz and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eight thin polymer overlay systems were evaluated in the laboratory and on two bridge decks exposed to trucks and passenger vehicles including those with studded tires. The products were Mark 154, Flex-O-Lith, Safetrack HW, Kwik Bond PPC MLS, Tyregrip, SafeLane HDX, Urefast PF60, and Unitex ProPoxyType III DOT. None of the overlay systems showed superior performance under moderate average daily traffic from the standpoint of maintaining good skid resistance and resisting wear through. Tyregrip and Safetrack HW started to wear through to the concrete after exposure of approximately 1.3 million vehicles, and Urefast PF60 wore through much sooner. For the five products that did not wear through, empirical equations predicted the friction number of the best of these five products would decrease to 40 (equivalent to the friction number of the concrete) within five months at a traffic level of 10,000 vehicles per lane per day. Delamination from the concrete was not a major problem with the products. Laboratory tests were not able to predict performance.

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel Concrete Composite Bridges written by Ehab Ellobody and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-01-25 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges is brought fully up-to-date and provides structural engineers, academics, practitioners, and researchers with a detailed, robust, and comprehensive combined finite modeling and design approach. The book's eight chapters begin with an overview of the various forms of modern steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, current design codes (American, British, and Eurocodes), nonlinear material behavior of the bridge components, and applied loads and stability of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges. This is followed by self-contained chapters concerning design examples of steel and steel-concrete composite bridge components as well as finite element modeling of the bridges and their components. The final chapter focuses on finite element analysis and the design of composite highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting. This volume will serve as a valuable reference source addressing the issues, problems, challenges, and questions on how to enhance the design of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting, using finite element modeling techniques. - Provides all necessary information to understand relevant terminologies and finite element modeling for steel and composite bridges - Discusses new designs and materials used in highway and railway bridge - Illustrates how to relate the design guidelines and finite element modeling based on internal forces and nominal stresses - Explains what should be the consistent approach when developing nonlinear finite element analysis for steel and composite bridges - Contains extensive case studies on combining finite element analysis with design for steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting
Download or read book Innovative Bridge Structures Based on Ultra High Performance Concrete UHPC written by Xudong Shao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-18 with total page 976 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovative Bridge Structures Based on Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC): Theory, Experiments and Applications introduces more than a dozen innovative bridge structures and engineering applications developed by the author's team based on UHPC. As the new bridge structure developed by UHPC can make outstanding contributions to the realization of the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals" and "sustainable development," and since recent studies have shown that the application of UHPC is expected to greatly reduce the amount of materials and carbon emissions and prolong the life of the structure, this book is an ideal update on the topic. For example, after calculation, when UHPC is applied to the arch bridge with compression as the main stress characteristic, compared with the steel arch bridge, the dead weight of the UHPC arch bridge is basically the same, and the cost and carbon emission are only 34% and 20% of the latter. Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) as a new generation of civil structural materials has the characteristics of high strength, high toughness and high durability. Through the collaborative innovation of new materials and new structures, the application of UHPC in bridge engineering is expected to achieve the goal of economical, environmentally-friendly, durable and high performance of the main structure. - Teachers readers about the new structures and technologies in bridge engineering developed by the author's team based on UHPC - Provides relevant experimental studies and the mechanical properties of different UHPC structures - Helps users understand the design method and calculation theory of UHPC bridge structures - Covers the characteristics and advantages of new UHPC structures and technologies applied to engineering
