This book was released on 2016 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report presents the findings of the evaluation of the Enabling Technology Development Sub-Sub-Program (SSP), which covers the activities of the Space Technology Development Program (STDP) and the services offered by the Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer (IPMTT) group. The STDP is an ongoing research and development (R & D) program of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) that provides financial support through contracts and contribution agreements to entities that are selected based on their capacity to develop specific space technologies. The two fundamental and interrelated goals of the STDP are to formulate, implement, and manage R & D contracts related to the development of mission-enabling and generic technologies to support future needs of the Canadian Space Program; and to support industrial capability-building through the development of new products and services, processes, and know-how"--Executive summary, p. iv.

Book Space Capacity Building in the XXI Century

Download or read book Space Capacity Building in the XXI Century written by Stefano Ferretti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, edited by the European Space Policy Institute, is the first international publication, following UNISPACE+50, to analyze how space capacity building can empower the international community towards fully accessing all the economic and societal benefits that space assets and data can offer. New innovation models are increasingly spreading across various sectors and disciplines, including space, which is becoming an integral part of many societal activities (e.g. telecoms, weather, climate change and environmental monitoring, civil protection, infrastructures, transportation and navigation, healthcare and education). The book helps readers construct their own space capacity building roadmaps, which take into account key stakeholders and also new private actors, NGOs and civil society. Starting from a policy and strategy perspective, it addresses key aspects of capacity building, including innovation and exploration, global health, climate change and resilient societies. It outlines the available options and summarizes the ideal programmatic conditions for their successful implementation. Showcasing reflections from a range of senior space professionals around the world, with their unique perspectives and solutions, it provides a rich mosaic in which various cultural and policy approaches to space are translated into actionable programs and ideas so that space may truly benefit all of humankind.

Book Evaluating Capacity Development

Download or read book Evaluating Capacity Development written by Douglas Horton and published by IDRC. This book was released on 2003 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perspective that informs this important book is that every evaluation of a capacity development effort should itself contribute to the capacity development effort and ultimately to the organization’s performance. This is a revolutionary idea in evaluation. With the idea have come the questions: Can it be done? And, if it is done, what will be the consequences? This book elucidates and deepens the idea, shows it can be done, and examines the consequences, both intended and unintended, of engaging in capacity development evaluation

Book excerpt: "The aims of the Earth Observation Data and Imagery Utilization Program (the program) are to promote the use of satellite data by other government departments (OGDs), support the Canadian value-added industry and maximize the potential offered by the missions supported by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). In so doing, it aims to close the gap between the potential offered by the development of this technology and the capacity to use it. The purpose of this evaluation, which covered the period from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2010, was to examine program relevance and performance"--Exec. Summary.

Book Building and Evaluating Research Capacity in Healthcare Systems

Download or read book Building and Evaluating Research Capacity in Healthcare Systems written by Nancy Edwards and published by Juta and Company (Pty) Ltd. This book was released on 2016-07-20 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, there have been many international calls to strengthen and support/sustain research capacity in lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This capacity is considered an essential foundation for cost-effective healthcare systems. While there have been long-standing investments by many countries and research funding organisations in the training of individuals for this purpose, in many LMICs research capacity remains fragmented, uneven and fragile. There is growing recognition that a more systems-oriented approach to research capacity-building is required. Nonetheless, there are considerable gaps in the evidence for approaches to capacity-building that are effective and sustainable. This book addresses these gaps, capturing what was learned from teams working on The Global Health Research Initiative. This book brings together the experiences of research capacity-building teams co-led by Canadians and LMIC researchers in several regions of the world, including China, Chile, Jamaica, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda.

Book Assessment of Impediments to Interagency Collaboration on Space and Earth Science Missions

Download or read book Assessment of Impediments to Interagency Collaboration on Space and Earth Science Missions written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through an examination of case studies, agency briefings, and existing reports, and drawing on personal knowledge and direct experience, the Committee on Assessment of Impediments to Interagency Cooperation on Space and Earth Science Missions found that candidate projects for multiagency collaboration in the development and implementation of Earth-observing or space science missions are often intrinsically complex and, therefore costly, and that a multiagency approach to developing these missions typically results in additional complexity and cost. Advocates of collaboration have sometimes underestimated the difficulties and associated costs and risks of dividing responsibility and accountability between two or more partners; they also discount the possibility that collaboration will increase the risk in meeting performance objectives. This committee's principal recommendation is that agencies should conduct Earth and space science projects independently unless: It is judged that cooperation will result in significant added scientific value to the project over what could be achieved by a single agency alone; or Unique capabilities reside within one agency that are necessary for the mission success of a project managed by another agency; or The project is intended to transfer from research to operations necessitating a change in responsibility from one agency to another during the project; or There are other compelling reasons to pursue collaboration, for example, a desire to build capacity at one of the cooperating agencies. Even when the total project cost may increase, parties may still find collaboration attractive if their share of a mission is more affordable than funding it alone. In these cases, alternatives to interdependent reliance on another government agency should be considered. For example, agencies may find that buying services from another agency or pursuing interagency coordination of spaceflight data collection is preferable to fully interdependent cooperation.
