Book Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards Supporting Documentation

Download or read book Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards Supporting Documentation written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2015 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) handbook can be used by trained personnel to identify, inventory, and screen buildings that are potentially seismically vulnerable. The RVS procedure comprises a method and several forms that help users to quickly identify, inventory, and score buildings according to their risk of collapse if hit by major earthquakes. The RVS handbook describes how to identify the structural type and key weakness characteristics, how to complete the screening forms, and how to manage a successful RVS program.

Book Executive Summary On Phase 3 Evaluation and Retrofitting of Multilevel and Multiple column Structures

Download or read book Executive Summary On Phase 3 Evaluation and Retrofitting of Multilevel and Multiple column Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the principal findings of a four year study for Caltrans of the seismic response of older multi-level, multi-column reinforced concrete bridge structures. Methods have been devised to improve prediction of the global response of these structures, to analyze and assess their local behavior, and to retrofit them to achieve adequate seismic behavior. The behavior of these structures has been found to be complex and influenced by a wide variety of parameters. Moreover, existing analysis methods often provide non-conservative estimates of behavior. The investigations conducted provide greater insight into the response characteristics of existing multiple column bridge structures. These have permitted development of improved analytical models and tools, retrofit strategies and design concepts.

Book Innovative Approaches in Computational Structural Engineering

Download or read book Innovative Approaches in Computational Structural Engineering written by George C. Tsiatas and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, numerical computation has become one of the most vigorous tools for scientists, researchers and professional engineers, following the enormous progress made during the last decades in computing technology, in terms of both computer hardware and software development. Although this has led to tremendous achievements in computer-based structural engineering, the increasing necessity of solving complex problems in engineering requires the development of new ideas and innovative methods for providing accurate numerical solutions in affordable computing times. This collection aims at providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of state-of-the-art innovative developments, concepts, methodologies and approaches in scientific computation applied to structural engineering. It involves a wide coverage of timely issues on computational structural engineering with a broad range of both research and advanced practical applications. This Research Topic encompasses, but is not restricted to, the following scientific areas: modeling in structural engineering; finite element methods; boundary element methods; static and dynamic analysis of structures; structural stability; structural mechanics; meshless methods; smart structures and systems; fire engineering; blast engineering; structural reliability; structural health monitoring and control; optimization; and composite materials, with application to engineering structures.

Book Seismic Behavior and Retrofit of Older Reinforced Concrete Bridge T joints

Download or read book Seismic Behavior and Retrofit of Older Reinforced Concrete Bridge T joints written by Laura N. Lowes and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of experimental tests investigating the seismic response of reinforced concrete beam-column T-joints was recently completed at the University of California, Berkeley. The evaluated connection was representative of an interior beam- column joint from a multi-column bridge frame built in the late 1950's. Three one-third scale models, representing the as-built connection and two retrofit connections, were tested. The results of this research project are an improved understanding of the seismic behavior of lightly reinforced bridge T-joints as well as verification of a design procedure for retrofitting this type of connection.
