Book Evaluation of the Fraunhofer Open Source IMS Core platform with special focus on the Call Session Control Function CSCF

Download or read book Evaluation of the Fraunhofer Open Source IMS Core platform with special focus on the Call Session Control Function CSCF written by Rainer Hallwachs and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009-09-07 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 1, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna, course: Betriebliche Informationsnetze basierend auf SIP bzw. verwandten Protokollen wie SDP, RTP usw., language: English, abstract: Given the increasing penetration of Internet Protocol (IP) technologies and the tremendous growth in wireless data traffic, the telecom industry is evolving towards All-IP based Next Generation Networks (NGN). The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has specified an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in 3GPP Release 5 to support converged multimedia applications across both wireless and wireline devices. IMS provides full packet call control capabilities by using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP has been chosen by 3GPP as the signaling protocol to handle user registrations and multimedia session management in the IMS. Using IP protocols defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), IMS will merge cellular networks and the internet, offering new service capabilities for rapid service creation and deployment of integrated IP multimedia applications. This diploma thesis provides an insight into the IP Multimedia Core Network, specifically focusing on its key element, the Call Session Control Function (CSCF). The CSCF serves as control point to manage all IMS sessions in the network, whether they are voice, video, data, messaging, gaming, or any other service. Moreover, this paper discusses the requirements identified by 3GPP to support SIP in cellular networks, and the extensions to the SIP protocol suite in order to fulfill them. The practical part of the thesis evaluates the Open Source IMS Core platform of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS with respect to the CSCF which is based on the SIP Express Router (SER). The analysis describes the new modules and advanced functions of SER, required to cope with the extended version of SIP and to act as a CSCF for IMS purposes.

Book Towards Sustainable Society on Ubiquitous Networks

Download or read book Towards Sustainable Society on Ubiquitous Networks written by Makoto Oya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-02 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The massive growth of the Internet has made an enormous amount of infor- tion available to us. However, it is becoming very difficult for users to acquire an - plicable one. Therefore, some techniques such as information filtering have been - troduced to address this issue. Recommender systems filter information that is useful to a user from a large amount of information. Many e-commerce sites use rec- mender systems to filter specific information that users want out of an overload of - formation [2]. For example, Amazon. com is a good example of the success of - commender systems [1]. Over the past several years, a considerable amount of research has been conducted on recommendation systems. In general, the usefulness of the recommendation is measured based on its accuracy [3]. Although a high - commendation accuracy can indicate a user's favorite items, there is a fault in that - ly similar items will be recommended. Several studies have reported that users might not be satisfied with a recommendation even though it exhibits high recommendation accuracy [4]. For this reason, we consider that a recommendation having only accuracy is - satisfactory. The serendipity of a recommendation is an important element when c- sidering a user's long-term profits. A recommendation that brings serendipity to users would solve the problem of “user weariness” and would lead to exploitation of users' tastes. The viewpoint of the diversity of the recommendation as well as its accuracy should be required for future recommender systems.

Book Utilitarianism in Victorian England with a special emphasis on Bentham and Mill

Download or read book Utilitarianism in Victorian England with a special emphasis on Bentham and Mill written by Bettina Klohs and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2004-06-19 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 1,3 (A), University of Leipzig (Institute for Anglistics), course: Seminar: The Virtues of Work. Ethics and Enterprise in Victorian Times., language: English, abstract: Everybody wants to be happy. In order to reach happiness, man throughout history has followed many courses. But what is happiness? The opinions varied largely throughout history. Man has discovered a certain texture of “being”; he has realized that he is both, an individual and a part of a whole, society. According to this, he always made attempts to apply structure on the things and phenomena around him and thus tries to define happiness and find ways to reach and preserve it. True, the different views show certain similarities but there is still no unity today. However happiness might be defined, whether as a “good life”, as contentment or as the absence of physical or mental suffering or anything else, however it is believed to be reached and preserved best, the search for the essence of happiness always seems to be a quest for the holy grail. Otfried Höffe describes happiness as follows 1 : Happiness is an inclusive goal of man. It is not the top of a hierarchy of goals but an attendant circumstance of a success. Happiness is therefore not a thing and it cannot, like many other phenomena, be seen in this light. But things are easily imaginable for the human being. This might be the reason for the difficulties in defining happiness. It is a feature of being human to develop systems to arrange and organize things. Now, if happiness cannot be reified and therefore not be presented as an essence of existence, which is conceivable by everybody in the same way, it may for the present only be described as the satisfaction of the wants and needs of the individual. From this one may conclude that happiness can only be intentio indirecta of public action. Utilitarianism, as a system of ethics, roots in the period of Enlightenment. Based on a humanistic view, it is an important attempt to discuss the question of happiness in a reasonable and non-speculative way and make it a concern of all thinking and feeling creatures. But, as Utilitarianism treated happiness as intentio directa in the name of the principle of utility, Utilitarian overvaluation of mathematics and logic made many problems concerning the applicability of the theory in reality, arise.

Book Wireless and Mobile Networking

Download or read book Wireless and Mobile Networking written by Jozef Wozniak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-03-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent spectacular achievements in wireless, mobile, and sensor networks have dramatically changed our lives in many ways. However, the rapid evolution of wireless systems not only promises increased functionality, reliability, availability, and security, as well as putting a wide variety of new services at the users’ disposal ? it also creates a number of design challenges that our research community is now facing. Scientists and engineers need to come up with, and promptly implement, novel wireless network architectures, while system operators and planners rethink their business models and attend to the growing expectations of their customer base. To provide a suitable forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners, and industry representatives interested in new developments in the respective research area, IFIP WG 6. 8 launched three separate series of conferences: MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks), PWC (Personal Wireless Communications), and WSAN (Wireless Sensor and Actors Networks). In 2008, MWCN and PWC were merged into the IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC 2008), held in Toulouse, France, from September 30 to October 2, 2008. MWNC 2008 and PWC 2008 topics were subsequently revised with a view to covering the whole spectrum of hot issues in wireless and mobile networking. As a result, IFIP WG 6. 8 decided to add WSAN as another WMNC track.

Book Networks and New Services A Complete Story

Download or read book Networks and New Services A Complete Story written by Roberto Minerva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shines a spotlight on software-centric networks and their emerging service environments. The authors examine the road ahead for connectivity, for both humans and 'things', considering the rapid changes that have shaken the industry. The book analyses major catalytic shifts that are shaping the communications world: softwarization, virtualization, and cloud computing. It guides the reader through a maze of possible architectural choices, driven by discriminating and sometimes conflicting business considerations. The new ICT capabilities lead us toward smarter environments and to an ecosystem where applications are backed up by shared networking facilities, instead of networks that support their own applications. Growing user awareness is a key driver towards the softwarization process. Softwarization disrupts the current status quo for equipment, development, networks, operations and business. It changes radically the value chain and the involved stakeholders. The dilemma is between a 'slow burn' traditional step-by-step approach and a bold transformation of the whole infrastructure and business models. This book is essential reading for those seeking to build user-centric communication networks that support independent agile and smart applications. “The book gives an insightful account of modern telecom networks, pinpointing the radical transformations of the last 20 years. This is the perfect read for those who are interested in the grand challenges of networks and in the socio-economic reasons why the telecom industry to embrace the Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems.” Prof. Antonio Liotta, Eindhoven University of Technology “This book fulfills an urgent need to thoroughly analyze the entanglement of network and software architectures by taking into account the increasing softwarization. It highlights important issues behind today’s business models and opens the road for sustainable future approaches to provide user appreciated valuable services.” Dr. Eng. Hendrik Berndt, former CTO of NTT DOCOMO Communications Laboratories Europe

Book Evolution of Telecommunication Services

Download or read book Evolution of Telecommunication Services written by Emmanuel Bertin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the telecom world, services have usually been conceived with a specific mindset. This mindset has defined the traditional characteristics of these services; services distinguished by their linkage with the access network, tight control over service use (e.g., authentication, billing), lack of deep personalization capabilities (mass services only) and reliance on standardization to achieve end-to-end interoperability between all the actors of the value chain (e.g., operators, platform manufacturers, device manufactures). This book offers insights into this complex but exciting world of telecommunications characterized by constant evolution, and approaches it from technology as well as business perspectives. The book is appropriately structured in three parts: (a) an overview of the state-of-the-art in fixed/mobile NGN and standardization activities; (b) an analysis of the competitive landscape between operators, device manufactures and OTT providers, emphasizing why network operators are challenged on their home turf; and (c) opportunities for business modeling and innovative telecom service offers.
