Similarly, the book examines why hybrid nanocomposites of LDH-MOF are considered promising materials due to their diverse functionality, flexible properties and tailored end-use properties. Likewise, application of LDH in secondary batteries and electro-chemical supercapacitors with a thorough up-to-date review is included in the book. Also, basic research articles on structural properties and measurements of a special class of unique LDH Li-Al-LDHs are included. Editors also have written their own articles on their findings on the prospective application of dispersions of LDH nanocomposites on structured catalysts for green-house gas emission. Overall, the book gives a short glimpse of wonderful opportunities that LDH can provide in solving many global socio-economic problems of today"--

Book Ion Solvation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Y. Marcus
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 1985
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Ion Solvation written by Y. Marcus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1985 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactions generally take place in solution and often involve ions. The behaviour of ions in solution, manifested through ion solvation, is therefore of prime interest in chemistry. This book considers in depth the phenomenology of ion solvation and the models and interpretations that have been proposed as the physical causes for the observed phenomena. It contains a thorough discussion of the statistical thermodynamic background of the solvation process from which a discussion of the actual thermodynamics is developed. This, in turn, serves as a background to the structural and kinetic features of ion solvation.

Download or read book Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium written by A.K. Suri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth and development witnessed today in modern science, engineering, and technology owes a heavy debt to the rare, refractory, and reactive metals group, of which niobium is a member. Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium presents a vivid account of the metal through its comprehensive discussions of properties and applications, resources and resource processing, chemical processing and compound preparation, metal extraction, and refining and consolidation. Typical flow sheets adopted in some leading niobium-producing countries for the beneficiation of various niobium sources are presented, and various chemical processes for producing pure forms of niobium intermediates such as chloride, fluoride, and oxide are discussed. The book also explains how to liberate the metal from its intermediates and describes the physico-chemical principles involved. It is an excellent reference for chemical metallurgists, hydrometallurgists, extraction and process metallurgists, and minerals processors. It is also valuable to a wide variety of scientists, engineers, technologists, and students interested in the topic.

Book The Nature of the Hydrogen Bond

Download or read book The Nature of the Hydrogen Bond written by Gastone Gilli and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-06-25 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen bond (H-bond) effects are known: it makes sea water liquid, joins cellulose microfibrils in trees, shapes DNA into genes and polypeptide chains into wool, hair, muscles or enzymes. Its true nature is less known and we may still wonder why O-H...O bond energies range from less than 1 to more than 30 kcal/mol without apparent reason. This H-bond puzzle is re-examined here from its very beginning and presented as an inclusive compilation of experimental H-bond energies and geometries. New concepts emerge from this analysis: new classes of systematically strong H-bonds (CAHBs and RAHBs: charge- and resonance-assisted H-bonds); full H-bond classification in six classes (the six chemical leitmotifs); and assessment of the covalent nature of strong H-bonds. This leads to three distinct but inter-consistent models able to rationalize the H-bond and predict its strength, based on classical VB theory, matching of donor-acceptor acid-base parameters (PA or pKa), or shape of the H-bond proton-transfer pathway. Applications survey a number of systems where strong H-bonds play an important functional role, namely drug-receptor binding, enzymatic catalysis, ion-transport through cell membranes, crystal design and molecular mechanisms of functional materials.

Book Water Purification and Management

Download or read book Water Purification and Management written by José Coca-Prados and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-14 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major challenges for many Mediterranean and other countries is finding viable solutions to tackle water shortage. Some of the major water quality constraints derive from the high salinity of groundwater and from pollution sources such as: untreated domestic sewage, fertilizers and pesticides from irrigation drainage, industrial effluents, and solid waste disposal. Wastewater treatment processes involving physico-chemical and biological treatment, chemical oxidation, membrane technologies, along with methods of solids concentration and disposal are of special relevance in dealing with these problems. This volume contains selected lectures presented at the NATO ADVANCED TRAINING COURSE held in Oviedo (November 15-21, 2009) and sponsored by the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme. They cover a variety of topics from wastewater treatment methods to cleaner production strategies, as a careful management of water resources is the basis for sustainable development and to avoid potential security threats. The reader will benefit from a general view of some of the operations involved in wastewater treatment and solid concentration and disposal methods. A proper water reuse and recycling, together with efficient solid disposal, would contribute to a better use of the resources and a sustainable economic growth, particularly in many arid lands of the world.

Book Multifunctional Oxide Based Materials From Synthesis to Application

Download or read book Multifunctional Oxide Based Materials From Synthesis to Application written by Teofil Jesionowski and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with novel aspects and perspectives in metal oxide and hybrid material fabrication. The contributions are mainly focused on the search for a new group of advanced materials with designed physicochemical properties, especially an expanded porous structure and defined surface activity. The proposed technological procedures result in an enhanced activity of the synthesized hybrid materials, which is of great importance when considering their potential fields of application. The use of such materials in different technological disciplines, including aspects associated with environmental protection, allows for the verification of the proposed synthesis method. Thus, it can be stated that those aspects are of interdisciplinary character and may be located at the interface of three scientific disciplines—chemistry, materials science, and engineering—as well as environmental protection. Furthermore, the presented scientific scope is in some way an answer to the continuous demand for such types of materials and opens new perspectives for their practical use
