Book Preferential Lane Treatments for High occupancy Vehicles

Download or read book Preferential Lane Treatments for High occupancy Vehicles written by Charles A. Fuhs and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.

Book Safety Evaluation of Priority Techniques for High occupancy Vehicles

Download or read book Safety Evaluation of Priority Techniques for High occupancy Vehicles written by United States. Federal Highway Administration. Traffic Systems Division and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Priority treatments for high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) can introduce new safety problems due to operational or geometric modifications. At the same time, they can reduce the accident potential by improving overall traffic operations. The research focused on five major areas of HOV projects: (1) an examination of the pertinent accident rates, (2) an analysis of causative factors influencing safety, (3) an identification of difficult maneuvers and potential safety problems. (4) the development of recommendations to improve safety, and (5) a review of the legal authority and legal liability issues faced by HOV projects.

Book Evaluation of Motorist Information Requirements for Transitways

Download or read book Evaluation of Motorist Information Requirements for Transitways written by H. Gene Hawkins and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barrier separated high-occupancy vehicle lanes, or transitways, have been found to be an effective way to reduce peak period congestion by providing priority treatment for high-occupancy vehicles. The Texas Transportation Institute performed a study to identify the user information needs of this type of facility, and how those needs could best be met. Driver expectancy requires that motorist information for a transitway be provided in the same manner used on other types of roadways. The results of this study indicate that the unique characteristic of transitways require special treatment in order to meet these motorist information needs.
