This book was released on 2007 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate a Level 1 performance-related specification (PRS) for the construction of a jointed plain concrete (JPC) pavement in the State of Wisconsin. The research entailed a thorough evaluation of the construction quality levels achieved on recent Wisconsin JPC projects and the formulation of a Level 1 PRS using the results of the quality evaluation and defined Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) pavement practices as a basis. Feedback from WisDOT and the contractor indicated that this first PRS implementation in Wisconsin was successful, particularly with respect to the layouts of lots and sublots. Several suggestions were received to improve and streamline the PRS process.

This report documents the first comprehensive review and evaluation of the SPS-2 experiment

Book Evaluation of Long life Concrete Pavement Practices for Use in Florida

Download or read book Evaluation of Long life Concrete Pavement Practices for Use in Florida written by Mang Tia and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) Version 1.1 model was used to analyze the performance of three typical concrete pavement designs in Florida to evaluate their suitability for use as long-life concrete pavements and the effects of various design parameters on their performance. Concrete slab thickness, concrete flexural strength, and the aggregate used in the concrete were found to be the three most significant factors affecting the predicted performance of the pavement evaluated. The type of base material and the stiffness of the base material appear to have no significant effect on the predicted performance. The Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTTP) database was used to evaluate the effects of various factors on the performance of Jointed Plain Concrete Pavements (JPCP). Critical stress analysis was also performed on the selected LTPP JPCP selections to determine the maximum stress in the concrete slab under a critical load and temperature condition.

Book Evaluation of the Soniscope for Nondestructive Testing of Portland cement Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Evaluation of the Soniscope for Nondestructive Testing of Portland cement Concrete Pavements written by George M. Pace and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results obtained from the soniscope instrument for use in the nondestructive testing of portland-cement concrete pavements. Essentially, the instrument was tested to determine if consistent velocity measurements could be obtained with the transducers in a position vertical on the prestressed, reinforced, and plain concrete pavements. Also, of interest during the investigation was the maximum distance through portland-cement concrete for which consistent velocity measurements could be obtained. (Author).

Book Evaluation of High Performance Concrete Pavements in Newport News and Hampton Virginia

Download or read book Evaluation of High Performance Concrete Pavements in Newport News and Hampton Virginia written by Hamdi Celik Ozyildirim and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study evaluated the properties of three high performance concrete mixtures placed in a jointed plain concrete paving project on I-64 in Newport News, Virginia, to reduce the shrinkage and improve the flexural strength of the concrete. Two mixtures contained ground-granulated blast furnace slag with 2-inch and 1-inch nominal maximum size (NMS) aggregate, and the third mixture contained Class F fly ash with 1-inch NMS aggregate. Air-entrained paving concretes with satisfactory strength, low permeability, and dimensional stability were prepared using concretes with Class F fly ash or slag and 1-inch or 2-inch NMS aggregates. Slipform pavers satisfactorily placed these concretes. The test sections were in excellent condition after six winters based on a visual survey. Falling weight deflectometer data indicated a better load transfer with the larger aggregate size with everything else being equal. The study also evaluated the maturity method in the continuation of the project on I-64 in Hampton, Virginia. After the evaluation, the pavement was changed to continuously reinforced concrete and the concrete properties were tested in accordance with the recently introduced Guide for Mechanistic-Empirical Design of New and Rehabilitated Pavement Structures (known as the proposed AASHTO M-E Design Guide). In the Hampton portion, a Class F fly ash mixture with the 1-inch NMS aggregate was used. The use of large aggregate, provided the particle shape is acceptable, and uniform combined grading should be specified for concretes with reduced water and cement contents. The maturity method can be used to determine the pavement's readiness for opening to traffic and should be included in the specifications.

Book Rehabilitation of Jointed Portland Cement Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Rehabilitation of Jointed Portland Cement Concrete Pavements written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Specific Pavement Studies 6 (SPS-6) experiment, "Rehabilitation of Jointed Portland Cement Concrete Pavements," was designed as a controlled field experiment that focuses on the study of specific rehabilitation design features of jointed plain concrete pavements (JPCP) and jointed reinforced concrete pavements (JRCP). This experiment examines the effects of climatic regions (wet-freeze, wet-no freeze, dry-freeze, or dry-no freeze), type of concrete pavement (plain or reinforced), condition of existing pavement prior to rehabilitation (fair or poor), and traffic rate (as a covariant), incorporating the different methods of rehabilitation with and without asphalt concrete (AC) overlays. This report documents the first comprehensive review and evaluation of the SPS-6 experiment.

Book Evaluation of Alternatives to Improve Pavement Design

Download or read book Evaluation of Alternatives to Improve Pavement Design written by N.S. Shah and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides results of a detailed study to determine the merits of selected premium design features for (a) flexible, (b) composite, (c) jointed plain concrete and (d) continuously reinforced concrete pavements. In addition, it includes an evaluation of the effectiveness of prestressed concrete pavements in relation to four types of pavements with and without premium design features. Based upon a thorough review of design procedures of the four types of pavements, the premium features that deserve to be evaluated were identified. The review study, in addition, identified the performance/design models in evaluating those features. Following a preliminary sensitivity analysis, the features identified were incorporated in pavement design trials. Based upon performance/reliability evaluations, and life cycle cost analysis using EAROMAR II computer program, the effectiveness of the respective premium features were evaluated. The results provide clear evidence of the economic benefits of many of the premium features which might be included in the design of pavements. finally, the performance of prestressed concrete pavements was compared with that of the other four types of pavements.
