Book The Impact of Financial Incentives on Individual Performance An Experimental Approach

Download or read book The Impact of Financial Incentives on Individual Performance An Experimental Approach written by Steffen Hetzel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-08-04 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: 1,3, University of Mannheim, language: English, abstract: The thesis on hand is dealing with the impact of financial incentives on individual performance. For this, the perception of an experimental approach has been chosen. The target of the thesis is the development of the blueprint of an experiment to provide further research input on the effectiveness of financial incentives. To do so, the theoretical background for studying this problem is introduced by investigating the psychological and economical approaches to analyze the topic. Additionally, empirical and experimental studies dealing with this issue are presented. Based on those findings, the structure of an experiment to be carried out at university with students is developed and objectives, design and supplementary requirements for conducting this are discussed. Subsequent, suggestions for the analysis, reporting and possibly occurring challenges throughout the process of implementation are illustrated. The design of the experiment is giving a verification of before detected findings of a non-linear correlation between incentives and performance. In contrary to standard economic models, the relation is not predicted to be monotonic, but S-shaped. For this perspective, not only performance on varying incentive levels is analyzed, but also performance if payments are absent. Furthermore, the influence of publishing the course of incentive levels in the beginning of the experiment, in comparison to a task-to-task announcement is investigated. An evaluation of this relation is undertaken by studying the impact of financial incentives on performance of three observation groups through two different exercises with varying incentive levels during a real-effort experiment.

Book Evaluating Firm Specific Location Incentives

Download or read book Evaluating Firm Specific Location Incentives written by Nathan M. Jensen and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of financial incentives to attract and retain companies has become one of the most common economic development strategies of U.S. states and municipalities. Despite the widespread debate on the effectiveness of these programs, few systematic academic studies have examined how incentives affect job creation and local economic development. The result is that policymakers often lack objective data from which to draw conclusions about the benefits of these programs. At a time in which state and municipal budgets are increasingly strained, new tools that allow policymakers to evaluate and understand the costs and benefits of incentive programs are needed. This paper attempts to provide policymakers with such a tool by exploring the impact of the Promoting Employment Across Kansas (PEAK) incentive program and other incentives. The paper is part of a larger project funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation that seeks to examine the effects of incentives on job creation in the Kansas City region as part of a two-year study of incentive competition. The paper's main finding is that, when comparing firms receiving PEAK incentives to a similar set of “control” firms, PEAK incentives recipients are statistically not more likely to generate new jobs than similar firms not receiving incentives. A secondary set of findings shows that firms relocating to Kansas, with or without incentives, do not experience job growth at higher rates than existing firms. More important than the specific analysis of the PEAK program, this paper provides a model for the evaluation of incentive programs that could be applied to both state and municipal incentive programs. In the conclusion, I offer some suggestions for reforms of both the reporting of incentives and the analysis of the economic impact of incentives, and alternative economic development strategies.

Book Do Financial Incentives Encourage Welfare Recipients to Work

Download or read book Do Financial Incentives Encourage Welfare Recipients to Work written by David Card and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports on a randomized evaluation of an earnings subsidy offered to long-term welfare recipients in Canada. The program -- known as the Self-Sufficiency Project (SSP) -- provides a supplement equal to one-half of the difference between a target earnings level and a participant's actual earnings. The SSP supplement is similar to a negative income tax with two important differences: (1) eligibility is limited to long-term welfare recipients who find a full-time job; and (2) the payment depends on individual earnings rather than family income. Our evaluation is based on a classical randomized design: one half of a group of single parents who had been on welfare for over a year were eligible to receive the SSP supplement, while the other half were assigned to a control group. Results for an early cohort of SSP participants and controls suggest that the financial incentives of the Self-Sufficiency Program increase labor market attachment and reduce welfare participation.

Therefore Management generally looks on to create a motivation environment where project members can work at their optimum efficiencies to achieve the targets or goals of the company. The goals of individual project members are/should brought in line with overall project goals. There are several ways which are influencing a project outcome, many ways to stimulate project members to show outstanding commitment and ensure a promising project performance. Evaluation of performance should be effective. That is the major reason why monetary incentives aiming straight at project performance are still few and far between in companies. Some of the methods that will influence a project by increasing the effort on project members are known to be financial nature.

This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research project is to identify the various ways in which NFIs affect levels of motivation while suggesting appropriate ways to improve and increase the value of the reward package, based on relevant data and an assessment of the current reward package. The results reveal that NFIs are particularly valued by case study UK organisation's employees hence the need to design an improved total reward package that would take into consideration the intrinsic needs of individuals as satisfaction levels were also found to be higher for NFIs compared with compensation. It was also found that employees had different opinions concerning what was called 'self' levels of motivation and 'others' levels of motivation. Finally, an elusive character of employee benefits was identified in the literature as well as in the case study organisation and was addressed through a classification of benefits depending on what was named the 'incorporated intrinsic element'.
