Book Corrosion Preventive Materials and Corrosion Testing

Download or read book Corrosion Preventive Materials and Corrosion Testing written by S.K. Dhawan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides an extensive coverage of conjugated polymer based nano-composite coatings with advanced anti-corrosive properties. The book gives detailed explanation of corrosion testing methods and techniques to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the coatings. It includes elaborate discussion on classification of corrosion, electrochemistry of corrosion process, theories explaining the mechanism of corrosion and various corrosion testing standards. Electrochemical studies like open circuit potential (OCP) variation with time, potentiodynamic polarization, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and accelerated corrosion testing are highlighted as important tools to extract information about the behavior of coatings under corrosive conditions. The book discusses epoxy-conjugated polymer based novel composite coating formulations, including aniline and o-toluidine, o-anisidine, phenetidine and pentafluoroaniline with appropriate fillers like SiO2, flyash, ZrO2 nanoparticles, and chitosan for the protection of metallic substrates. A general discussion on the self healing mechanism of epoxy-polypyrrole based biopolymer hybrid composite coatings is included in this book. This book provides a critical review on the conjugated polymer based composite coatings with superior corrosion resistance, good mechanical integrity, better adhesion properties and self healing ability under highly aggressive conditions which can be commercially used for the protection of metal substrates from corrosion.

Book A Review and Development of Accelerated Test Methods for Anti corrosive Organic Coatings

Download or read book A Review and Development of Accelerated Test Methods for Anti corrosive Organic Coatings written by C. Woodcock and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To enable improvements in the development of anti-corrosive coatings quick methods of evaluation are required and several are available which are both qualitative and quantitative. This investigation reviews both types of method, the first in the form of traditional salt spray exposure and the second in the form of electrochemical techniques. The emphasis in the experimental work reported here is on the Electrochemical Noise Measurement (ENM). ENM has been used to monitor coatings under immersion conditions, the aim being to assist a paint company develop a set of more environmentally friendly coatings. The immersion test has also incorporated a temperature cycle which proved effective at separating 'good' coatings within a short timeframe. Results showed good correlation between ENM and salt spray testing. Work is also reported which was done with the aim of making the ENM method more practically useful. The standard configuration ('Bridge') requires two separate specimens which is unattractive for site work. The Single Substrate (SS) arrangement was developed to get around this problem but this still requires the metal to be connected to the measuring instrument. This is avoided in the most recent development which needs No Connection to Substrate (NOCS). Results are given for immersed samples monitored using the ENM NOCS arrangement and compared with the standard 'Bridge' method and DC resistance. Results are also presented using sets of different electrodes (platinum, calomel and silver/silver chloride). This preliminary work has shown that the NOCS method holds great promise. In the laboratory Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is also commonly employed to assess the performance of anti-corrosive coatings. Concluding this work a comparison of the ENM and EIS techniques was undertaken on a set of laboratory samples. Results showed that both methods had the ability to rank the performance of coatings. However ENM's advantages (as outlined above) were confirmed.

Book Developments in Corrosion Protection

Download or read book Developments in Corrosion Protection written by Mahmood Aliofkhazraei and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2014-02-20 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the first thing that comes to your mind after hearing the term “corrosion” is corrosion of a metal. Corrosion is a basically harmful phenomenon, but it can be useful in some cases. For instance, environment’s pollution with corrosion products and damage to the performance of a system are among its harmful effects, whereas electric energy generation in a battery and cathodic protection of many structures are among its advantages. However, these advantages are almost nothing as compared to the costs and effects imposed by its detrimental influences. The enormous costs of this phenomenon can be better understand through studying the published statistics on direct and indirect corrosion damages on economy of governments. The direct cost of corrosion is near 3 % of the gross domestic product (GDP) of USA. Considering this huge cost, it is necessary to develop and expand the corrosion science and its protection technologies.

Book An Evaluation of the Anti corrosion Effectiveness of Various Primer Coatings

Download or read book An Evaluation of the Anti corrosion Effectiveness of Various Primer Coatings written by Jack Ohr and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salt spray tests were conducted with magnesiumsteel and magnesium-aluminum couples coated with alkyd and epoxy primers pigmented respectively with zinc chromate, strontium chromate, a mixture of zinc chromate and antimony oxide, and titanium dioxide. Results indicate that the optimum formulation for protecting the couples against corrosion is an epoxy-polyamide primer pigmented with the zinc chromate-antimony oxide mixture. Recommendation for the use of this coating is withheld pending the outcome of future work to determine its practicability as a primer for aircraft use. (Author).
