Book Evaluating the Nursing Curriculum s Alignment with the National Certification Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX RN

Download or read book Evaluating the Nursing Curriculum s Alignment with the National Certification Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX RN written by Mary T. Parsons and published by ProQuest. This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to review the core nursing curriculum at Salisbury University, and to compare it to the test plan for the licensure exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). It involved collecting data from three sources. First, NCLEX-RN test results were reviewed for three graduating cohorts of nursing students (2004, 2005, and 2006). Second, selected course documents including syllabi, objectives, and comprehensive final exams were reviewed. Third, Nursing faculty were surveyed about how they chose their content for their courses and for the questions on the final exams. The curriculum data was analyzed in relation to the NCLEX-RN test plan to determine the extent of content alignment. Gaps in content coverage that corresponded to areas of graduates' weak performance were highlighted, and recommendations were made for increasing curriculum coverage in those areas. It was also recommended that faculty members review the NCLEX-RN Reports highlights on a yearly basis, and use the data to guide curriculum development efforts. This will ultimately result in improved curriculum alignment with the NCLEX-RN, and improved graduates' performance on the NCLEX-RN.

Book Nclex RN Practice Questions NCLEX Practice Tests Exam Review for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses

This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCLEX-RN Practice Questions are the simplest way to prepare for the NCLEX-RN test. Practice is an essential part of preparing for a test and improving a test taker's chance of success. The best way to practice taking a test is by going through lots of practice test questions. If someone has never taken a practice test, then they are unprepared for the types of questions and answer choices that they will encounter on the official test. There is a tremendous advantage to someone taking the test that is already familiar with the questions and answer choices. Another advantage of taking practice tests is that you can assess your performance and see if you need to study and practice more, or if you're already prepared enough to achieve success on your test day. If you do well on the practice test, then you know you're prepared. If you struggle on the practice test, then you know you may still have more work to do to get prepared. Taking lots of practice tests helps ensure that you are not surprised or disappointed on your test day. Our NCLEX-RN Practice Questions give you the opportunity to test your knowledge on a set of questions. You can know everything that is going to be covered on the test and it will not do you any good on test day if you have not had a chance to practice. Repetition is a key to success and using practice test questions allows you to reinforce your strengths and improve your weaknesses. Detailed answer explanations are also included for each question. It may sound obvious, but you have to know which questions you missed (and more importantly why you missed them) to be able to avoid making the same mistakes again when you take the real test. That's why our NCLEX-RN Practice Questions include answer keys with detailed answer explanations. These in-depth answer explanations will allow you to better understand any questions that were difficult for you or that you needed more help to understand.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Nursing explores how nurses' roles, responsibilities, and education should change significantly to meet the increased demand for care that will be created by health care reform and to advance improvements in America's increasingly complex health system. At more than 3 million in number, nurses make up the single largest segment of the health care work force. They also spend the greatest amount of time in delivering patient care as a profession. Nurses therefore have valuable insights and unique abilities to contribute as partners with other health care professionals in improving the quality and safety of care as envisioned in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enacted this year. Nurses should be fully engaged with other health professionals and assume leadership roles in redesigning care in the United States. To ensure its members are well-prepared, the profession should institute residency training for nurses, increase the percentage of nurses who attain a bachelor's degree to 80 percent by 2020, and double the number who pursue doctorates. Furthermore, regulatory and institutional obstacles-including limits on nurses' scope of practice-should be removed so that the health system can reap the full benefit of nurses' training, skills, and knowledge in patient care. In this book, the Institute of Medicine makes recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing.

Book Evaluating the Outcomes of a Concept based Curriculum in an Associate Degree Nursing Program

Download or read book Evaluating the Outcomes of a Concept based Curriculum in an Associate Degree Nursing Program written by Carmen V. Harrison and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete overhaul of nursing education has been commanded due to concerns regarding the proficiency of novice nurses and the clinical care they provide in today's increasingly complex health care environment. Novice nurses are struggling to utilize effective critical thinking skills in order to practice at minimal competency levels. Delivering nursing education using a concept-based curriculum may provide the opportunity to prepare novice nurses to practice in a twenty-first century health care environment. However, limited literature exists examining the outcomes of a concept based curriculum. The purpose of this study was to evaluate critical thinking scores, National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) pass rate prediction scores, and NCLEX-RN pass rates in associate degree nursing (ADN) students completing a concept-based curriculum. The theoretical framework for this study was founded on the experiential learning theory, which postulates students learn through experience, reflection, and by actively participating in the learning process. A retrospective, descriptive, correlational design was utilized to evaluate secondary data from a convenience sample of ADN students (N = 258) from one college of nursing, located in a Midwestern state. Data analysis revealed critical thinking program exit score was significantly higher than critical thinking program entry score (p
