Download or read book Evaluating Computer Integration in the Elementary School written by Richard Mowe and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook was written to enable elementary school educators to conduct formative evaluations of their computer integrated instruction (CII) programs in minimum time. CII is defined as the use of computer software, such as word processing, database, and graphics programs, to help students solve problems or work more productively. The first chapter provides an overview of computer education and program evaluation, and the second covers planning for evaluation. The third chapter explains how to collect the data to describe the existing CII program. Interpreting the data and answering evaluation questions are covered in the fourth chapter. Finally, the presentation of the evaluation report is discussed in chapter 5. Appendices include copies of questionnaires for seven facets of the integration program, i.e., planning, program description, goals, staff, plans, activity implementation and goal attainment, and strengths and weaknesses. Also appended are a summary of the research procedures and results upon which this handbook is based. The handbook is intended for use by both experienced and inexperienced evaluators to improve an existing CII program and no formal knowledge of program evaluation is required. (DB)

This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book enables educators at the elementary level to conduct formative evaluations of their technology programs in minimum time. Most of the technology is computer related, including word processing, graphics, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, instructional software, programming, and telecommunications. The design of the book is aimed at evaluating the use of technology as it is integrated into other standard curricular areas, such as math or language arts, but the focus is on technology goals rather than curriculum goals. The book is divided into five chapters. The first provides an overview of technology and program evaluation. The second suggests a way to plan for the evaluation. The third explains how to collect the data to describe the existing technology program. The fourth explains how to interpret the data. The final chapter assists in the presentation of the evaluation report. The appendix contains the evaluation questionnaires. (TMK)

Book Computers Children and Classrooms

Download or read book Computers Children and Classrooms written by Hilda W. Carmichael and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the creative uses of computers in elementary schools and their impact on student's confidence and self-esteem, student-student interaction, student-teacher interaction, male and female students, classroom management, the role of the teacher, special education, teacher training, teachers not involved in the study, and curricular areas such as computer literacy, learning Logo as a programming language, problem-solving and problem-creation, mathematics, oral communication, reading and writing, the arts, and values and the individual and society. Findings are based on intensive examinations of real classrooms over a 2-year period. A total of 433 students in 18 classrooms that involved 13 different teachers were studied; of these, 5 teachers and 40 students were involved in the study for 2 years. Classrooms had 1 to 5 computers over the entire school year, or students had access to a computer laboratory. Logo and word processing were studied extensively; the use of a graphics tablet and Musicland were explored for short periods. Findings indicate that the creative use of computers fosters the development of independent and original thinking and that an environment that encourages exploration leads to extensive social interaction among students; in addition, students become more willing to express, refine, or revise their ideas. A significantly greater proportion of students experienced an increase in their confidence and self-esteem if their teacher was able to give them autonomy over their learning. The impact on students' attention span and cognitive development in the special education classes was also significant. Appendices and selected references are provided. (Author/JB)

Book Cross National Policies and Practices on Computers in Education

Download or read book Cross National Policies and Practices on Computers in Education written by Tjeerd Plomp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-19 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents some of the results from the second stage of lEA's study of Computers in Education (CompEd). lEA, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, conducts international comparative studies focussing on educational achievement, practices, and policies in various countries and education systems around the world. It has a Secretariat located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. lEA studies have reported on a wide range of topics, each contributing to a deeper understanding of educational processes. The CompEd study is a project that sheds light on the way computers have been introduced in education and on how they are being used across the world today. The study proceeded in two stages with data collected for stage 1 in 1989 and for stage 2 in 1992. Results from both stages have been published in a variety of publications. This book reports about a special part of the study. Student achievement and school processes come into being in the context of the structure and the policies of national (or regional) education systems. The variety found in the CompEd results led us to ask how much might be explained by differences in these national or regional contexts. That is the reason the CompEd study took the initiative to invite the countries participating in the study, as well as some other countries that have had interesting developments in the domain of educational computers, to write a chapter describing their policies and practices regarding computers in education.

Book Integrating Information Technology into the Teacher Education Curriculum

Download or read book Integrating Information Technology into the Teacher Education Curriculum written by Nancy Wentworth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As teaching evolves, teacher education must keep up. This book examines systemic reforms that incorporate new technology to improve any teacher education program. While there are books that address the integration of technology into teaching curricula, very few address the process for teacher education faculty and the systemic reform of a teacher education program. Integrating Information Technology into the Teacher Education Curriculum: Process and Products of Change provides practical examples and suggestions for teacher education departments striving to integrate new technologies into their curriculum. It will help in the effort to motivate faculty to make utilizing new technology a natural strategy for the teachers they are educating. It describes the creation of Design Teams at Brigham Young University’s McKay School of Education (funded by a PT3 grant) and how these teams worked to successfully reconfigure the school’s teacher preparation curricula. Integrating Information Technology into the Teacher Education Curriculum examines: how to compose and create a curriculum design teamincluding both teacher education and content-specific methods instructors training and collaboration opportunities that focus on the infusion of technology how to facilitate alignment among a university, cooperating school districts, the State Office of Education, and other available teacher preparation programs specific case examples of the redevelopment of teacher education courses by the instructors who teach them the process of changing a technology course required by the teacher education program the process of extending grant activities to the university’s partner school districts and the State Office of Education From the editors: Preparing tomorrow’s teachers to use technology in schools is a complex endeavor requiring the infusion of technology into curriculum and instructional practices at all levels of the pre-service program. In many early teacher education programs, prospective teachers took a computer literacy class separate from content methods classes and rarely engaged in real collaboration on how schoolteachers could integrate technology into authentic learning experiences. By focusing merely on how to use computers, technology training failed by not addressing how to teach students more effectively using a variety of technological tools. What teachers need to know most is how to teach content more effectively. Technology integration should cause teachers to develop different perspectives through rethinking teaching and learning. Teaching with technology causes teachers to confront their established beliefs about instruction and their traditional roles as classroom teachers.
