Book Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing III

Download or read book Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing III written by Nicolas Nicolov and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together revised versions of a selection of papers presented at the 2003 International Conference on “Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing”. A wide range of topics is covered in the volume: semantics, dialogue, summarization, anaphora resolution, shallow parsing, morphology, part-of-speech tagging, named entity, question answering, word sense disambiguation, information extraction. Various 'state-of-the-art' techniques are explored: finite state processing, machine learning (support vector machines, maximum entropy, decision trees, memory-based learning, inductive logic programming, transformation-based learning, perceptions), latent semantic analysis, constraint programming. The papers address different languages (Arabic, English, German, Slavic languages) and use different linguistic frameworks (HPSG, LFG, constraint-based DCG). This book will be of interest to those who work in computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, human language technology, translation studies, cognitive science, psycholinguistics, artificial intelligence, and informatics.

Book A Machine Translation Approach to Cross Language Text Retrieval

Download or read book A Machine Translation Approach to Cross Language Text Retrieval written by María Gabriela Fernandez-Diaz and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross Language Text Retrieval (CLTR) has been defined as the retrieval of documents in a language different from that of the original query. To make this possible some kind of mechanism has to be applied in order to translate the information contained in the source sentence. Many different approaches have been carried out with the purpose of transferring the information from the source language query to the target language one. Though all these methods deal with a way of translating as much information as possible from the source query, little research has been conducted in relation to the field of Machine Translation (MT). The purpose of this research work is to determine the feasibility of using MT techniques for CLTR. Specifically, I will describe how a MT system has been adapted without much effort to translate Spanish queries of a specific domain, i.e. Finance and Economics, into English in order to retrieve documents related to that field. The results of this process will then be compared with the results obtained from the retrieval of the original English queries. Thus, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using MT for CLTR.

Book Legislative XML for the Semantic Web

Download or read book Legislative XML for the Semantic Web written by Giovanni Sartor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-29 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the basic layers of the standard-based creation and usage of legislation. In particular, it addresses the identification of legislative documents, their structure, the basic metadata and legislative changes. Since mature technologies and established practices are already in place for these layers, a standard-based approach is a necessary aspect of the up-to-date management of legislative resources. Starting out with an overview of the context for the use of XML standards in legislation, the book next examines the rationale of standard-based management of legislative documents. It goes on to address such issues as naming, the Akoma-Ntoso document model, the contribution of standard-based document management to handling legislative dynamics, meta-standards and interchange standards. The volume concludes with a discussion of semantic resources and a review on systems and projects.

Book New Insights into the Semantics of Legal Concepts and the Legal Dictionary

Download or read book New Insights into the Semantics of Legal Concepts and the Legal Dictionary written by Martina Bajčić and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on legal concepts from the dual perspective of law and terminology. While legal concepts frame legal knowledge and take center stage in law, the discipline of terminology has traditionally been about concept description. Exploring topics common to both disciplines such as meaning, conceptualization and specialized knowledge transfer, the book gives a state-of-the-art account of legal interpretation, legal translation and legal lexicography with special emphasis on EU law. The special give-and-take of law and terminology is illuminated by real-life legal cases which demystify the ways courts do things with concepts. This original approach to the semantics of legal concepts is then incorporated into the making of a legal dictionary, thus filling a gap in the theory and practice of legal lexicography. With its rich repertoire of examples of legal terms in different languages, the book provides a blend of theory and practice, making it a valuable resource not only for scholars of law, language and lexicography but also for legal translators and students.

Book Terminological Approaches in the European Context

Download or read book Terminological Approaches in the European Context written by Paola Faini and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a picture of state-of-the-art studies on terminology at the European level. Addressing a range of linguistic and cultural topics, it illustrates the diversity of terminological approaches, uses and solutions. A variety of national contexts and areas, from economics and law through to gender, environment and education, is explored to illustrate emerging national issues and practices in view of measuring and assessing them against European standards. The book discusses the selection of languages and cultural attitudes that characterize European Union countries, challenging and productive as they can be. It highlights the need to acknowledge differences in specific domains and the necessity to evaluate national policies (or indeed lack of policies) regarding terminological issues, and facilitate communication and dissemination of knowledge.

Book Multilingual Processing in Eastern and Southern EU Languages

Download or read book Multilingual Processing in Eastern and Southern EU Languages written by Cristina Vertan and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume draws attention to many specific challenges of multilingual processing within the European Union, especially after the recent successive enlargement. Most of the languages considered herein are not only ‘less resourced’ in terms of processing tools and training data, but also have features which are different from the well known international language pairs. The 16 contributions address specific problems and solutions for languages from south-eastern and central Europe in the context of multilingual communication, translation and information retrieval.
