Book The Future of European Political Cooperation

Download or read book The Future of European Political Cooperation written by Martin Holland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collected volume of essays focuses on two complementary themes: firstly, the theoretical approaches to the study of European Political Cooperation; and secondly, the empirical analysis of EPC activity. The volume does not argue one particular approach to the study of EPC, but rather presents competing, and often conflicting, theoretical perspectives. At the empirical level, a future research agenda is suggested and it is argued that EPC research should become comparative in nature.

Book European Political Co operation

Download or read book European Political Co operation written by Simon J. Nuttall and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European Political Co-operation (EPC) is the process by which Member States of the European Community co-ordinate their foreign policies. This book sets out to describe the development of EPC and to trace the influences which have made it what it is today. The arguments about transfer of sovereignty in foreign policy-making, the influence of the United States, the leading role played by France, and the effect on policy of finding organizational solutions in reaction to crises are all examined through a historical account of events over more than thirty years. EPC is the basis from which the European foreign policy of the future will be developed. This is increasingly significant both for the institutional development of the Community and for its impact on world events, yet the procedures and political pressures which go towards shaping EPC are little known and frequently misunderstood. This book will improve understanding of a new form of diplomatic process, of great interest for the future, but which has barely begun.

Book Europe s Foreign and Security Policy

Download or read book Europe s Foreign and Security Policy written by Michael E. Smith and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of a common security and foreign policy has been one of the most contentious issues accompanying the integration of the European Union. In this book, Michael Smith examines the specific ways foreign policy cooperation has been institutionalized in the EU, the way institutional development affects cooperative outcomes in foreign policy, and how those outcomes lead to new institutional reforms. Smith explains the evolution and performance of the institutional procedures of the EU using a unique analytical framework, supported by extensive empirical evidence drawn from interviews, case studies, official documents and secondary sources. His perceptive and well-informed analysis covers the entire history of EU foreign policy cooperation, from its origins in the late 1960s up to the start of the 2003 constitutional convention. Demonstrating the importance and extent of EU foreign/security policy, the book will be of interest to scholars, researchers and policy-makers.

Book New Approaches to EU Foreign Policy

Download or read book New Approaches to EU Foreign Policy written by Maciej Wilga and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EU foreign policy once existed in the form of the European Political Cooperation with only a limited political leverage and symbolic institutional underpinnings. In recent years rapid changes have occurred, including an expanding institutional apparatus, increased responsibility and growing demand for action. This book examines new approaches to the EU’s foreign policy that address its rapidly changing character, presenting the newest theoretical perspectives and dealing with novel empirical developments. Rather than simply considering structural variations and changes in the agency of the EU, it explores the new complexity in EU foreign policy. The authors offer new theoretical perspectives and new empirical studies dealing, among others, with issues such as: Power delegation to the Commission. EU diplomacy. Parliamentarisation and constitutionalisation. Committees’ involvement in foreign policy process. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of European politics, European foreign policy and European integration.

Book European Political Cooperation EPC

Download or read book European Political Cooperation EPC written by Commission of the European Communities and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Events in Iran and Afghanistan have highlighted the efforts of the Community to speak as one in the face of unexpected crisis. On such occasions differences are pounced upon while measures of agreement are seldom appreciated. Yet since 1970, when procedures to encourage political cooperation among members were first introduced, there has been an increasing effort by Community governments to harmonize their diplomacy and to adopt common positions on foreign affairs. Although it is within the spirit of the Treaty of Rome, EPC lies outside the Treaty Institutions. Ministers meet as a Conference of Foreign Ministers as and when required. Once a year the Chairman of the Conference (the current President of the Council of Foreign Ministers) reports to the European Parliament on what has been achieved during the year. Mr O'Kennedy's report on 24 October 1979 shows the remarkably wide field where the Community acts as an entity in foreign affairs.
