Download or read book Genetics Genomics and Breeding of Eucalypts written by Robert J. Henry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eucalypts are used for the production of paper products, firewood, charcoal, potential feedstocks for bioenergy and biomaterials, as ornamentals and landscape trees, and in land rehabilitation. Eucalypt breeding is at an early stage with many plantings being only at the first stages of domestication. The relatively small genomes of these species make the application of molecular genetics approaches attractive. The application of modern genomics will accelerate the development of improved eucalypts for a wide range of uses. This book brings together diverse information on the genetics, genomics, and breeding of these important forest species.

Download or read book Principles and Practices in Plant Ecology written by Inderjit and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles and Practices in Plant Ecology: Allelochemical Interactions provides insights and details recent progress about allelochemical research from the ecosystem standpoint. Research on chemical ecology of allelochemicals in the last three decades has established this field as a mature science that interrelates the research of biologists, weed and crop scientists, agronomists, natural product chemists, microbiologists, ecologists, soil scientists, and plant physiologists and pathologists. This book demonstrates how the influence of allelochemicals on the various components of an ecosystem-including soil microbial ecology, soil nutrients, and physical, chemical, and biological soil factors-may affect growth, distribution, and survival of plant species. Internationally renowned exper†s discuss how a better understanding of allelochemical phenomena can lead to true sustainable agriculture.
Download or read book Biological Transformation of Wood by Microorganisms written by W. Liese and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the papers presented at the Session on Wood Products Pathology during the 2nd International Congress on Plant Pathology on 10th - 12th September 1973 in Minneapolis/USA. The topics were dealt with under four heads, viz. Interaction of Microorganisms during Wood Decay, Bacterial Degradation of Wood, Decay of Resistant Wood and Enzymatic Mechanisms of Deterioration Process, followed by a Discussion Session on Extension: an obli gation of all Wood Products Pathologists •. Thanks to the cooperation of the authors all the papers could be compiled in this volume. The conference gave an unique possibility to discuss in depth the principles of wood decay by microorganisms from the various angles. The chapters give detailed information on the current progress and problems in wood products pathology. They are therefore collected together in this volume so that people interested in this field will have immediate access to the material and ideas presented. The topic of this Session, the degradation of wood by fungi and bacteria, has become more and more important during the last years. Wood is the only renewable natural resource and raw material of man so that it must be preserved against unwanted deterioration. On the other hand, its natural decomposition does not lead to any harmful products but only to carbondioxide and water. Both aspects have been dealt with in this volume. Download or read book Chemistry of Lignocellulosics written by Tatjana Stevanovic and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the chemical properties of lignocellulosic fibers, knowledge of which is essential for innovation and sustainable development of their transformation. Thermochemical transformation of wood and other lignocellulosics is presented to highlight its volatile, liquid and solid products and their novel applications. Forest biorefinery is described to emphasize the new products from lignocellulosic constituents, both structural (cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignins) and those extraneous to cell walls-extractives. New developments in cellulose technology related to nanocellulose are discussed in relation to new applications. Industrial lignins are presented in detail, both in terms of extraction procedures from spent liquors and structural characterization of the isolated lignins. Application of lignocellulosic biopolymers in new composite materials, or in biomaterials for medicinal purposes, and in solid wood preservation, are described. The example of an industrial biorefinery installed in southwestern France more than 40 years ago is presented.

Book excerpt: Mycorrhizas are soil-inhabiting fungi that form mutualistic root/fungal associations. The intention of this book is to provide a summary of all the mycorrhizal categories from a morphological & anatomical perspective. The first seven chapters cover the seven categories of mycorrhizas based on the structural features of the symbiosis between the plant and the fungus involved: ectomycorrhizas, ectendomycorrhizas, and arbuscular mycorrhizas, ericoid, arbutoid, monotropoid, & orchid mycorrhizas. The final chapter describes dark septate fungal endophytes of roots. Includes glossary and index.
Download or read book Nutrition of Eucalypts written by PM Attiwill and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most eucalypts grow naturally on soils low in fertility. Commercial plantations of eucalypts have been established around the world over a range of climates and soils. These two themes are central to this book. Nutrition of Eucalypts provides a comprehensive survey of nutritional ecology of eucalypts in their natural environment and in plantations. The authors, who are all at the forefront of research and development in their fields, are from the various eucalypt growing regions including Brazil, India, China, Spain and Australia. Their text aims at a state-of-the-art presentation. The book includes a key and descriptions for recognising nutrient deficiencies in eucalypts.
