L’évolution rapide des diodes laser de pompe, de plus en plus efficaces et compactes, permet une montée en puissance de ces systèmes. Néanmoins, les cristaux massifs utilisés habituellement dans ces lasers sont limités par d’importants effets thermiques. De nouvelles architectures ont été développées pour tenter de résoudre cette difficulté, mais aucune ne permet aujourd’hui de combiner simplicité, bonne qualité spatiale, forte puissance moyenne, et forte puissance crête. Les travaux que nous présenterons sont divisés en deux axes de recherche. Le premier objectif a été de mieux comprendre les effets thermiques dans les cristaux laser, grâce à un banc de caractérisation associant un dispositif de cartographie thermique et un banc de mesure de lentille thermique. Nous exposerons quelques utilisations possibles de ce banc. Le deuxième objectif a été le développement d’un nouveau concept laser basé sur les fibres monocristallines, en collaboration avec l’entreprise Fibercryst. Ces cristaux de petit diamètre et de grande longueur concilient les avantages des fibres laser amorphes et des cristaux laser massifs. Nous présenterons la caractérisation des fibres monocristallines obtenues par la technique de croissance micro-pulling-down ainsi que leurs premiers résultats laser.
