Book excerpt: La formation de l’ion négatif d’hydrogène (H–) lors de collisions entre un ion positif et une cible atomique ou moléculaire neutre est étudiée expérimentalement à des énergies d’impact de l’ordre du keV. Les sections efficaces doublement différentielles de formation des ions H– sont mesurées en fonction de leur énergie cinétique et de leur angle d’émission lors des collisions OH+ + Ar et O+ + H2O à 412 eV/u.m.a. Ces ions peuvent être émis à haute énergie (keV) lors de collisions violentes quasi-élastiques à 2 corps impliquant un fort transfert d’impulsion au centre H. Cependant, les anions H– sont préférentiellement émis à faible énergie (eV) lors de collisions douces à plusieurs corps (> 2) qui résultent en un faible transfert d’impulsion. La formation des ions H– par capture électronique fait suite à l’excitation ou l’ionisation de la molécule. La dynamique de la fragmentation moléculaire est modélisée afin de simuler l’émission des ions H–. L’accord globalement satisfaisant entre la simulation et l’expérience facilite l’interprétation des observations expérimentales.

Book excerpt: Ce mémoire présente une étude expérimentale de la multicapture électronique dans des collisions à basse vitesse entre des ions multichargés et des fullerènes C60. Lors de l'interaction, la capture d'électrons cible sur des niveaux d'énergie élevés du projectile conduit à la formation d'un ion multiexcité appelé "atome creux" qui se désexcite par l'intermédiaire de cascades autoionisantes et radiatives. Une étude systèmatique en fonction de la charge initiale, de la structure électronique et de la vitesse du projectile a été effectuée par des ions Xeq+ (15 q 30), Kr16+ et Ar16+ de vitesse comprise entre 0,19 et 0,42 u.a.. Le dispositif expérimental utilisé est basé sur la détection en coïncidence de la charge finale (q-s)+ du projectile, du nombre d'électrons éjectés n et du temps de vol des ions de recul. Par cette méthode, le nombre d'électrons actifs r=n+s est déterminé même lorsque le C60r+ n'est pas stable. L'analyse des distributions en nombre d'électrons éjectés permet de mesurer les sections efficaces de capture de r électrons lorsque s électrons sont stabilisés par le projectile. Ce type d'expérience met en évidence trois régimes d'interaction suivant le paramètre d'impact : les interactions de type atomique, surface et solide. Pour les collisions frontales, la perte moyenne d'énergie cinétique du projectile et sa distribution de charge finale en sortie de C60 ont été mesurées. L'observation d'un nombre d'électrons actifs supérieur à la charge initiale du projectile montre que des processus d'autoionisation rapide (~ 10-16 s) se produisent pendant les collisions de type surface. Pour un nombre délectrons actifs inférieur à la charge initiale du projectile (collisions de type atomique), l'autoionisation des atomes creux a été traitée en utilisant un modèle statistique d'évaporation des éléctrons. Les probabilités de stabiliser s électrons parmi r électrons capturés sont ainsi calculées et un bon accord est obtenu avec les résultats expérimentaux.

Ceci est une tendance générale des éléments à couche "p" ouverte. Une discussion des mécanismes aboutissant au détachement, à l'excitation et à l'ionisation, a lieu dans le cadre du modèle de promotion de Fano-Lichten utilisant une description quasi moléculaire de la collision. Cela indique que l'ionisation par le processus Auger quasi-moléculaire doit être l'autre mécanisme de production d'ions positifs. De point de vue spectroscopique des états autoionisants de type (coeur)np, inobservables dans les études de photoabsorption à cause des règles de sélection dipolaires, ont été identifiés. Dans le cas des cibles moléculaires, l'échange de charge vers une résonance de forme a été observé avec les ions négatifs. A la fois avec des projectiles neutres et des ions négatifs le processus d'ionisation dissociative a été observé.

Experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume with a cross section consisting of a wide floodplain adjacent to a main channel. The embankment length, discharge, sediment size, and abutment shape were varied, and the resulting equilibrium scour depths were measured. Water-surface profiles, velocities, and scour-hole contours were also measured. In the report, a methodology is developed for estimating abutment scour that takes into account the redistribution of discharge in the bridge contraction, abutment shape, sediment size, and tailwater depth. The independant variables in the proposed scour formula are evaluated at the approach-channel cross section and can be obtained froma one-dimensional water-surface profile computer program such as the Water-Surface Profile Program (WSPRO). The proposed scour evaluation procedure is outlined and illustrated, including consideration of the time required to reach equilibrium scour. The proposed methodology is applied to two cases of measured scour in the field.
