Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A full review of the latest research findings on microbes involved in conventional aerobic nitrification, anaerobic ammonia oxidation, and related processes. • Examines the four principal groups of nitrifying microbes including conventional aerobic bacterial ammonia oxidizers, recently discovered aerobic archaeal ammonia oxidizers, anaerobic ammonia-oxidizing planctomycetes, and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria. • Provides current information on the ecology, phylogeny, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genomics of each group of microbes. • Discusses the latest industrial applications of nitrification and anammox processes, and explores the ecology of nitrification in marine, freshwater, soil, and wastewater environments.

Book Nitrification and Denitrification

Download or read book Nitrification and Denitrification written by Ivan Zhu and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrification and denitrification are essential processes for aquatic ecological system and vital for human health. While ammonia is applied for disinfection together with chlorine to produce chloramine, excessive ammonia may cause nitrification and bacteria growth in water transmission pipeline. Since excessive discharge may cause eutrophication and deterioration of aquatic system, nitrate is regulated for wastewater discharge in sensitive areas. Further, nitrate needs to be monitored and controlled in drinking water treatment to protect against methemoglobinemia in bottle-fed infants.

This book was released on 1996 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES EAUX SOUTERRAINES EXPLOITEES SONT SOUVENT PEU PROFONDES ET FACILEMENT ACCESSIBLES AUX POLLUTIONS, NOTAMMENT AUX NITRATES. IL EST DONC IMPORTANT D'ETUDIER LA FACILITE TECHNIQUE DE SYSTEMES SIMPLES ET PEU COUTEUX DE DENITRIFICATION BIOLOGIQUE IN SITU, DE NAPPES PHREATIQUES. DANS LE CAS PRESENT, L'AQUIFERE CRAYEUX A ETE POLLUE PAR DES INFILTRATIONS EN PROVENANCE D'UNE USINE D'ENGRAIS AZOTES. L'ACQUISITION DE PARAMETRES PHYSICO-CHIMIQUES ET BIOLOGIQUES DANS LA ZONE D'ETUDE, A MONTRE DE FORTES TENEURS EN NITRATES (PARFOIS SUPERIEURES A 1500 MG/L), UNE FAIBLE POPULATION BACTERIENNE ET L'ABSENCE DE SUBSTRAT CARBONE DISPONIBLE POUR CES MICRO-ORGANISMES. LORS D'ESSAIS DE REPRODUCTION DE L'ECOSYSTEME NATUREL, EN REACTEURS-PILOTES A BIOFILMS FIXES SUR DES SUPPORTS MINERAUX, UNE DENITRIFICATION BIOLOGIQUE RAPIDE S'EST MISE EN PLACE. L'APPORT OPTIMAL EN CARBONE ORGANIQUE EST DETERMINE EGAL A 0,8-1 G DCO/G NO3 A ELIMINER. L'ADDITION DE METAUX A REDUIT LA CONCENTRATION RESIDUELLE EN NITRITES DE 80 A 98% ET AUGMENTE LE RENDEMENT DE DENITRATATION DE 95 A 98%. PAR AILLEURS, L'ETUDE EN CULTURE PURE D'ALCALIGENES DENITRIFICANS ET UNE SOUCHE H A CONFIRME L'INCIDENCE, DANS LE PROCESSUS DE DENITRITATION, DES ELEMENTS METALLIQUES DES LES TRES FAIBLES CONCENTRATIONS (INFERIEURES A 0,1 MG/L). LA MISE EN PLACE D'UNE INSTALLATION PILOTE DE TERRAIN DEVRA INTEGRER LES RESULTATS DE LABORATOIRE, ET PARTICULIEREMENT LE CHOIX DU SYSTEME NUTRITIF POUR LES MICRO-ORGANISMES (CARBONE, PHOSPHORE ET METAUX)

Book Denitrification in Soil and Sediment

Download or read book Denitrification in Soil and Sediment written by Niels Peter Revsbech and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of atmospheric nitrogen gas by denitrifying bacteria may represent a significant nutrient sink in natural ecosystems. The rate of denitrification has often been difficult to measure in situ, however, and new methodologies should stimulate research on distribution of activity in space and time. The load of fertilizer nitrogen in modem agriculture has led to increasing nutrient reservoirs in recipient subsoils, aquifers, inland waters and coastal seas. By its conversion of nitrate to atmospheric nitrogen, bacterial denitrification is the only biological process to potentially reduce the impact of increasing nutrient loadings by fertilizer nitrogen in the environment. As part of a scientific program set up by the Danish Ministry of Environment to study environment cycling of nitrogen, phosphorous and organic matter (NPO program) in the light of agricultural, domestic and industrial activities, a symposium on DENITRIFICATION IN SOIL AND SEDIMENT was held at the University of Aarhus, Denmark from 6-9 June 19i\9. On the basis of lectures given at the symposium, this book contains a number of invited contributions on the regulation of denitrification activity (control of enzyme synthesis and activity) and measurement of in situ rates of denitrification in terrestrial and aquatic environments (control factors, diel and seasonal variations, etc). Emphasis has been placed on including the recent improvements in methodologies and current understanding of process regulation, however the book also contains examples of integrated research on the significance of denitrification in environmental nutrient cycling.
