La mise en relation des objets avec les mots qui les symbolisent va donc être une des constituantes principales de la pratique orthophonique. Le Français Signé est un moyen de communication bimodal (à la fois les gestes de la Langue des Signes et la parole), de plus en plus utilisé pour les jeunes enfants ayant des difficultés à accéder à un langage oral. Effectivement, la composante visuelle permet un meilleur accès à la symbolisation et le codage gestuel offre un apprentissage plus aisé que le codage verbal. Les enfants porteurs de trisomie 21 ont des appétences pour les tâches visuelles et kinesthésiques. L'utilisation d'une communication orale et gestuelle semble donc adaptée à la prise en charge "précoce" de ses enfants.Nous proposons donc une initiation au Français Signé pour leur permettre d'accéder plus facilement à un outil d'interaction et ainsi de s'inscrire dans une démarche de communication. Dans ce mémoire, nous présentons les éléments théoriques en rapport avec la formulation de notre hypothèse et l'initiation au Français Signé. Puis, nous relatons la prise en charge de six mois à domicile avec un enfant porteur de trisomie 21 âgé de quatre ans.
